How to remove airbag, clockspring and verify failure steering angle sensor.
After disassembly, cleaning and opening of the contacts. Application in the car, the breakdown disappeared. It has not been broken for a few weeks.

When you get ridiculous price quotes by some BMW service shops/mechanics, you may as well try it. If you manage to fix it great, if you can’t or break it, you are still buggered anyway!

OK thank you. Look how these tabs are. If they are exhausted the ideal and try to correct. I in my case opened the tabs and normalized, but sooner or later I will have to do the modification of the tabs, when I do I will make a video, however at this moment the car is without the fault.

I have a 06 325i & this issue just came up, so you didn’t replace the part you said clean it right? How did that work out for you? Did that solve the issue? I’m thinking all that work to get to the sensor maybe I should just replace it. Would love to hear some feed back. Unfortunately the issue keeps coming back & it creates a hassle, the signals don’t turn off after a turn the stay on & I can’t use cruise control, of course the constant light on the dash. Makes sense if it’s just dirty, what did you use to clean it?

Yes in my case he solved the malfunction for a few months, then reappeared. There are two types of sensors, the optical reading and the potentiometers. In my case it is potentiometers and the contact straws are worn, I have to arrange the straws. If it is optical reading still makes more sense to be clean. Yes it is always a good solution to disassemble and clean, can use ethyl alcohol, lubri-clean etc,

Hi Cantinho72 , I know this is a late comment since you posted the video, but, can you please confirm which model you have? A friend of mine currently has a 2007 bmw E90 320i (150hp) and I was wondering if the process you shown would actually fit this model. In addition to the DSC malfunctioning, this car also shows an error linked to the flat tire monitor and DBC. Thank you !

Thanks for watching my video. The model of my car is 2003 2.2cc 520i E60. I only know two models of Switch unit steering column, those of rheostats which is the case that I present and for older car and those of optical sensors, for newer cars I think. The other malfunctions it speaks of, in my opinion has nothing to do with the Switch unit steering column.

In my case I cleaned everything and opened the contact pallets and the error has disappeared until today. In my opinion the problem with my sensor is the worn tabs. Sooner or later it's going to break down again, and then I'll solder some tabs, then I'll do a repair video.

My sterring wheel is not on the right angle, when i drive straight stering wheel is moved to the left side, it looks terrible and i want to fix that, can this method help me? Sometimes i have steering sensor light on dashboard, small yellow steering wheelc icon with little exclamation mark? Any solution? I have e60 530i 2004

In your case, the direction must be misaligned. You must correct this by aligning the direction in a specialty house.

Yes in this case in principle is clockspring. Watch the video I also take the clocksping. The clockspring internally has tapes, which when turning the steering wheel, maintains the functions of the steering wheel. If one of the tapes leaves causes that symptom that you speak. You can change clockspring.

Hello, thank you for the educational video. I have a bmw 5 series 2012, I began hearing noise in the steering wheel when i turn and the horn is not working. BMW company says I should change the whole switch unit steering column. what do you advise me? can't it only be a problem in a sensor?

Good afternoon, The horn issue may be related to the clockspring is a K7 with a tape contacts, which may have been damaged. Regarding the noise of the steering wheel is difficult to say something without listening, however try to look for another opinion before going to BMW.

Hello again the bearing has two sets of sensors and each sensor has two brushes, i've tried locating the replacement brushes and was unsuccessful, is it possible to sorta on the brushes

I also tried to find the four replacement contacts, but I did not find it. In this case the solution is to buy a new part or solder a contacts to save a lot of money. Later I'll make a video of that corection.

Is the turning angle sensor lamp on? Usually the angular sensor is the first piece to give problems. In my opinion you should check the 1st sensor. In the case of the BMW I know 2 types of sensors the optical reading and those of potentiometers that is the case of my video.

The assembly process is the reverse. In principle later I will make a new video with the repair of the contacts. My car breakdown was resolved because I opened the contacts and cleared the contact zone. But in the future I will have to re-repair those contacts.
