Excellent opinions on the whole wet shaving collectors vs shavers market. Very interesting. Hey, tell Grace at Yaqi to make their soap products more searchable on AE, its like they are on some hidden menu or something. Maybe it just the AE search algorithm overall. You put something in the search engine and you get a bunch of crazy non-relatable products pop up . Anyway. Sorry for the rant . Nice having a Saturday morning Subie video once in a while! Have a great week!

Dude I tried to tell them! It is impossible to find the soaps, but thank goodness you can just snag them on Google. And since they tell you the names I just search each one individually 👍 Thanks so much for tuning in for a more opinion based video 👍

You're right on with the whole pricing thing. It will always be all over the place and it does come down to what you are willing to pay. I think I payed around $20 for my Fatboy and at that time a lot were going for $40. Condition and availability, there are so many factors and with some things it goes in cycles. If you're good at tinkering, you can often get a really good deal. I have some sketches of brush handles like that, but I also designed in the ability for water to drain if it's sitting up or down. In mine there isn't any flat spots on the inside for water to sit. I bet that, the base, middle, and top are threaded together and should come apart. Sounds like a great soap too! Have a great weekend Josh!

Add a box and a paper and that "fair price" becomes very loose. Its a topic that is hard to pinpoint and doesn't win many friends, but I felt like was worth a discussion. Thanks for joining me for it my friend as always!

Couple of years ago I bought an old shave kit (unique looking) to display for $15.. came with a Gillette Fatboy in it and they said keep it😜 works great, I cleaned it up and looks great too😳💪🏼 got the kit for the old spice shave mug that was in it. Razor was a bonus

I also think people are sleeping on the Slim Adjustables, too. Granted, there are only so many of the Fat Boys available because Gillette only made so many (hence the addition of a bit of "rarity" to the mix), but I have owned both and still have my Slim because it isn't as aggressive on my face and seems to be improved a bit more over the original in some cases. But you also have to consider that back then, there weren't as many options as there are today in the safety razor market. Getting one of the old Gillettes is mostly a point of novelty and not really one of "Well, this is just one of the few options on the market." So, it is nice to be able to get one of these, but not really necessary, in my view. It's just nice to own a piece of history and understand that the issue of "getting a good shave" was solved more than 50 years ago.

Awesome intro as always. Nice shave. I think the vintage price of razors is always going to have a wide range as some people are selling without the research and some trying to get the most they can get, but as long as you're willing to pay their price and are satisfied with the shave then its a good deal. Have a great week buddy

Nice shave Subie, the fatboy is my favorite vintage razor, also price can change depending on if you get the case, original blades and instruction booklet that came with the razor.

Well just remember if you're looking, and someone is selling theirs for 500$ - it doesn't mean it isn't "worth it to someone" ...but you'll likely not get that amount put of it when there's random listings for 5$ 🤣 Thanks for the comment my friend and for stopping by for a shave!

This was an interesting video, thank you for the input. I have two Fat Boys (do not think I paid more than $25 each) and I have to say I hardly reach for this razor. I get a better shave from the Slim. But that is just me. The soap sounds really nice. Great video as always.

Really interesting topic, and well handled. Any ideas what I’d get for a Leaf Elite serial number #000???? Have an awesome day and enjoy the shave and that great smelling soap set, MSC make some great products.
@SubieShaves
@SubieShaves 3 месяца назад
Let's see fair price, 2 fitty and a cheeseburger 🤣🤣 Let's not forget - LEAF had a hard time selling them at the original price - they deemed it "undoable" as they actually were too expensive to produce. Almost a Gillette situation where they would lose money to sell each one, and even then, the market determined it was too expensive. Is it worth MORE now, when they struggled to sell it previously - that's up to the buyer. Thus - your razor is worth what someone will pay, and what you are willing to part with it at. Just common sense IMHO 👍 Thanks so much man for dropping in and sharing some thoughts!

I bought a fatboy off of Etsy a few years ago 2021 for like $78. Definitely condition its big factor for me in what price I am willing to pay for any vintage. I just tried asking AI what is the fair value of the razor and got $50-$150.
@SubieShaves
@SubieShaves 3 месяца назад
That's why I grabbed a photo, I am sure that number changes 👍 78$ for a good condition one, with some original stuff, sounds like a deal. End of the day, if you feel your getting "a shave worth the cost" than who really cares right? Thanks for the comment!

@@SubieShaves Economics, it's scarce item with high demand in the wet shaving community. I bought a rare English flat bottom tech not too long ago. I really want one of those English aristocrats with the barber pole spiral handle. Question I saw another video of your and you were putting injector blades in a de razor, how is that possible?
@SubieShaves
@SubieShaves 3 месяца назад
@@Gotobecrazy I've done it a bunch. Injectors blades have rounded edges (and therefore don't need corner guards), roughly the same dimensions as a DE blade, and work the same way as a DE blade. Stabilize it and it'll shave.I had the idea with super aggressive razors, as injectors are less wide, and technically reduce exposure, albeit different, they provide a stiffer and more docile shave typically (for me atleast). For mild razors, or razors that don't clamp well - it's not a great idea, but I have had some success with the idea.
@Gotobecrazy

What is the attraction of this razor? Is it fairy magic? How would you compare it to a New SC?
@SubieShaves
@SubieShaves 2 месяца назад
SC? Sorry not sure what that is haha Fairy magic INDEED 😂 No I think there is a ton of reasons why people want these, from the "it's the first mass-produced great adjustable from Gillette", to "I watched my father use one". These are also quite good shavers (in good condition) and with the range of adjustment they hold up to many of what are made today (again in my opinion). I like the time capsule shaves where picking this up instantly takes me back to the 50's, but when an executive gold plated one goes for 200-400$...it becomes more about collect ability / scarcity than actual shave performance. Fun razor to use, and it's always fun to talk about vintage chasing/gambling 😂 Thanks for the comment!
