Fairy & Fae Decks To Start My Journey 

Nearly two years after you filmed this, I am doing a similar study, and everything you said as someone just trying to understand these energies is what I would say now. Spot on. Very cool to hear your process and see your decks.

Brian’s Faerie decks are very trickster, and they can be harsh and won’t take any BS, but they can also be very understanding and act as wise guides. I have HR, FL, SoftheF, Sidhe, Elisabeth on Earth was a very otherworldly Fairy : Fae energy to it, I thinks its the whole hidden face thing, Tarot of the Guardian is also very dryad energy

I recently started getting interested in faes as well with the Hidden Realm and the Forest Fae being my two favourite decks. No other deck that I have gives me to the point readings as the Hidden Realm and it‘s a very beautiful, intense deck. If you are interested in getting to know more about faes and love a good art book, I recommend getting Faeries Of The Faultlines by Iris Compiet; she makes the most enchanting drawings ever.

I'm so glad that you've given some love to the Tarot of the Hidden Realm, it's one of my favourite decks as well, I love it's deep meditative energy, it's very nurturing and gentle and the guidebook is amazing. I definitely recommend getting the full sized guidebook for the Mysic Faery Tarot because the stories in each suit are wonderful, they reflect the progression of each suit in the tarot so its wonderful. Enjoy tapping into and connecting with the energy of the fae and the Faeries.

If you study Irish folklore, you will understand that the sidhe are human-like creatures that live in the Otherworld. They are not disembodied or winged or elemental energies. They can be mistaken for humans.

If you're interested in fairy lore, I would highly recommend books by Morgan Daimler. She also has a youtube channel.

I have yet to work with The Fae either! I would agree in your categorization wholeheartedly: fairy: human perception of what a Fae may look like in our world versus the Fae: the overall collective archetypal energy of elemental entities. This is how I see energies/deities as a whole anyway. Have you heard of the Angelarium Oracle of Emanations? A deck of otherworldly Angels from Lurianic Kabbalah whose appearances are quite Fae-like, and we as humans attempt to view them as these beautiful humans with white wings and a halo.

I am a faerie devotee and the decks I love the most are the fey tarot and Froud's decks...

I'm so happy you made this video, I recently had the Radleigh Valentine deck come into my life unexpectedly and I absolutely love it and so I have also suddenly been called to work with Fae/Fairy energy but I'm new to it too so its nice to see your journey :)

The Fairy tarot by Radleigh Valentine is one of my favorite tarot decks of all time. I started with this deck when I first started my tarot journey in 2019. The only thing I don't like about the deck are the images and the suit names. I prefer the elements like in the angel tarot rather than the seasons. But absolutely love the phrases that are on each card. I've used this deck for both my personal spiritual practice and as a working deck for clients. 🙂

Huge Fairy/Fae/Fairie fan (and whatever other labels we call this energy! 😂) My town pre-pandemic used to hold a "FaeryFest"! It was awesome! 🤩 I create fairy houses, flower fairy dolls and have given fairy readings. So I really resonate with all that energy. I love all these decks you have highlighted. My current fav is The Mystic Faerie. The forest fae Oracle is calling to me, so adding to my (ever-growing) list! I have the Doreen Virtue/Radleigh Valentine fairy deck, it is very much the same as their Angel tarot deck. I also have Brian Froud's Fairie Oracle, I agree it has a mischievous energy to it, and the art style didn't really do it for me in the past. I recently edged it in metallic copper (sharpie) and it feels much better to me now! Lol! As always, thank you for sharing the decks and your thoughts about them. Very informative and interesting! 😊

I loooove my Tarot of the Sidhe so much! It’s exactly for me how u described…when I need strength or for me a fire in me…in a good way. I’m an Aries & I feel like it is so much fire along with the other elements but it just gets me. I vibrate when I hold it…it’s a feeling I crave when I get a deck. I am really liking The Forest Fae…I haven’t found any kind of Fairy, Fae energy Oracle that I’ve wanted to go ahead & get yet…I think you found one for me! ❤️

Tarot of the Hidden Realm is to me very Celtic - English, Irish, Scottish, Welsh.... at the possible time of this period of faery/fae they were all Caucasian. Love this deck.

I’d highly recommend The Faeries Oracle by Brian Froud. As he does a write up for each card, with a upright interpretation as well as a reversed interpretation. I feel he captured Fae in the most natural energy. That I have seen. That is my own personal experience though.

First, you made sense to me the entire way through. It was interesting to hear how you see the decks and faerie versus fae. I'll be honest, I clicked hoping to see a Brian Froud deck, lol. Especially as you talked about the fae natural energy and looking for oracle decks. But I understand your reasons for now working with one of his decks yet. I personally can't really work with other faerie decks because I've used his for so long. Watching this I can see working with the little Forest fae deck. It does have a slightly similar feel. But up until now, I'd never felt that this type of energy could match well in a tarot setting. But the Mystic Faerie Tarot I might give a try. It gives more of a fairy tale vibe but that's okay. I wish I could give other recommendations but I can say how I've worked with the Brian Froud decks. Meditations with a card a month and also traveling with the cards. Those two decks have probably seen the most outdoors time than any of my other decks. I used to travel a lot for work, so I took them all over the country and even overseas. Definitely decks I have anthropomorphized to an extent. But they definitely appreciated it. There was journaling as well as some other things in the books. Sorry this is so long. But I hope you enjoy your faery/fae journey.

Love this video. I have always had a fascination with fairy, but as I mature, I am drawn a lot more to more of the Fae energy. I have the Faery Oracle by Lucy Cavendish, and it was one of my first oracles. What I have found with it is that I only ever receive less than 10 of the same cards over the many years that I have had it when I pull from it hahaha. I honestly have never really seen any of the others and as you did the walk through I was like, oooh there are some cool cards in there that I never get hahaha. I have always wanted to expand my deck collection with more fairy/fae decks, but always found that I never felt grounded enough working with them. But now I know which ones I would be better suited to, so thank you for this video, and I cant wait to hear how your journey goes!

Loved this video! And yes, it made a lot of sense, it actually was a bit of a aha! moment for me, putting into words what I felt but didn't really consciously know. I have several of the decks! Hidden Realm is my favourite tarot deck, and I'm a huge Selina Fenech fan, so... I'm missing the lo scarabeo Fey Tarot. It's the otherworldly energy while still being whimsical. For me one of the most intuitive decks out there.

Oh, my favorite topic! I always loved the different ways to see Fairies and Fae, always loved actual "Fairy" Tales and the different legends and myth from different cultures. "Mystic Faerie" is on my wishlist for spring, so is "Hidden Realm" for fall. Never seen the "Wild Wisdom of the Faery Oracle" before and I don't have a Fairy Oracle so far, so that's on my wishlist now, too :D (Unfotunaly I can't work with decks that feature different artist, cause the ""Dragonfae" looks interesting, but to many cards I just visually don't like...)

For decks to add......Oracle of the Fairies by Karen Kay. And The Good Tarot, maybe not totally Fae but there are some otherworldly images in the deck, by Colette Baron-Reid!!

As far as the Wild Wisdom of the Faery Oracle......I didn't want the one with the borders so I was a little put off by that at first but that thing is BANG ON when it comes to readings!!! I have a few of the decks you mentioned and some on my wish list!! Also added two to my wish list!! I am VERY into the Brian Froud decks!! My goal is to get my hands on The Heart of Faerie Oracle by him but it's super expensive because it's no longer being printed!

I have the deck that has a black and white side and the colour one, I COULD NEVER EVER ACTUALLY GET TO WORK WITH IT, it's so sad since it was given to me as a gift by my aunt for a Cbristmas, but the fact that I can see the sides it makes it so difficult to me to use it,,, If someone knows how to read that thing I would be so thankful 😅

The Mystic Faery deck I have has borders but also the book with the stories. Yeah the valentine fairy tarot isn't my fav art either... but I do own it. Yes wild wisdom! The gloss im.not a fan of and I wish I could cut the edges, I'm not good at mods lol. I look at fae as an overview which includes faery and unicorns and myth etc. But I can see your view of it and I do like the bridging... Love all the decks. I own a lot of fae and fairy decks. I love fairy lights and fully believe it goes into the other realm. Thanks for sharing.

This was a really fun video to watch especially as I also haven’t done much work or study of these energies, partially because it feels a little intimidating honestly! I have the same reaction to the Brian Froud decks…like I need to approach them with respect.

My favourite faerie tarot deck is "twilight realm ... a tarot of faerie" by Beth Wilder it's a beautiful deck that in my opinion is very overlooked. I dont know if it's because of the black backgrounds and the art seems to be done in chalk or pastels... it's a mix of human and creatures .. I find it reads really well .... it's a deck close to my heart .

I’ll be honest, when I think of fairies, I think of 5 year olds and emo kids. It’s really kept me away from fairy decks in general. But I keep eyeing the Arthur Rackham and the the Brian Froud fairy decks. They remind me of an 80s fantasy movie, like Legend. Not everyone is nice, mistakes have consequences, the world isn’t a Disney movie. I really enjoyed this video. Thanks for helping me see things in a new light. RIP my paycheck!

You make total sense to me. I really like the way you are breaking it down to get the feel for them and for it to make sense. I really like how the Fairy Lights Tarot makes scenes when together. There is one deck i think you might like. The shop has been on a short break ,but i think they are opening today or very soon and that Deck is Forest Creatures Tarot by Tarocco Studio on Etsy. They actually had two versions. The first and second edition and they are a little bit different as some of the cards have changed in the second edition. I love them both. The only thing is the little ( white book ) Is very hard to read. It is a little better in the second edition but the cards are pretty. I just started pairing them with The Sacred Forest Oracle by Denise Linn .I hope you are having fun with the Faeries and the Fae. They seem to be attracted to shiny objects lol . I have this pair of pyrite earrings and they kept steeling one or both for months one time . It was quite annoying at the time but they always put them back so all is good lol. I’m not sure if you’ll be reading this as it’s a late response but I just came across your video and I absolutely agree on your take of the fairy/fae spectrum of how they are portrayed. Honestly, I have an aversion to decks where fairy are portrayed as “beautiful” to our human standards, and even worse, sexualized according to our greater society’s fantasies. I find fae energy to be playful at times, but more often than not intimidating and even frightening. And when I say playful I don’t mean “good” or having any positive feelings towards humans. I think they’re ambivalent or neutral towards us at best, malevolent at worst. In saying all this, I too found Brian Froud’s Oracle to be an exquisite portrayal of their energy, but it’s just a bit too raw and confronting for me. I’ve yet to find a fae deck I resonate with. But I recently saw one I’d like to try. Have you heard of The Old Ways Magick Oracle? I recently saw a RU-vid flip thru of that deck and to me it’s the closet portrayal (at least visually) of how I see the fae world. There are images that include both nature and animals but these elements exist in the fae world too, perhaps all the more prominently. 💖

I left out all the decks, that use that flowery, Victorian, angelic imagery ... for I deem them to be misguiding. The Forest Fae ... is imho the best deck to start out ... for besides all the cuteness ... there is still the wild, wyrd, otherworldly, odd, somewhat dangerous energy of the good neighbours in it. My other decks featuring the fair folk are: Brian Froud's Faery Oracle (with Rankle, Master of Pranks [google it, please] sometimes taking the place of "The Faerie Guide") The Card Deck of the Sidhe Tarot of the Sidhe Olde Fae playing cards

Pretty sure the animal in the 2nd deck you weren't sure about is a ferret 😊

If you are interested in books helping clear up misinformation regarding the distinction between humans, the Sidhe, and nature spirits/ elementals both Conversations with the Sidhe by David Spangler and Birth of a New Consciousness by Jaap van Etten are good place to start.

Any recommendations for an oracle deck to go with Forhaxa tarot? I’m looking. Haven’t found anything I like yet…

IDK why but fae energie sounds a little dark for me... Everytime I think of getting a faerie themed tarot or oracle deck I take a look at them and they all look creepy, lol, I don't think I'd be able to connect with them. The only one I have is the Shadowscapes Tarot that I use for the shadow energy in readings, hahahaha.
