How do you think it would go if you asked your spouse what the bare minimum was to be married to them? Probably not well. But do we do something similar to Christ? Do we seek a “bare minimum” Christianity? Do we accept a “good enough” faith? Today, we find that true faith in Jesus will act like Jesus, aiming to live the perfect life he lived, and though we will fail in our sin, Christ will lift us up in forgiveness and work in us so that we grow more and more like him.
This is a WELS sermon on the readings from Year B Pentecost 17: Jesus himself is our model in whose footsteps we follow, stumbling though that following will be. Readings are Isaiah 50:4-10; James 2:1-5, 8-10, 14-18; and Mark 8:27-35.
