Rolling Stone is a joke but i agree on that. Not just rock, he is one of the most talented and versitile vocalists but will never get aknowlaged since alot of it isn't "popular" music.
Mike patton is so good, autotune did a brain scan and programmed his talent into the program to fix all the shitty vocalists globally. Legend says scientists are working on cloning his vocal chords to implant into these no talent vocalists we have nowadays.
I think Faith No More gets recognition - but I'd agree Mike Patton is worth following beyond FTN. ru-vid.com/video/%D0%B2%D0%B8%D0%B4%D0%B5%D0%BE-WB17RP2vmLY.html - "Damn slinky"
To answer your questions: 5 people and the singer is Mike Patton, one of the greatest singers in history. Incredible and diverse. Listen to *The Real Thing* by FNM, his vocal will have you questioning your religious beliefs.
Here's a quote that I love about Mike Patton: "He's not so much a singer as he is an innovator of the manipulation of the human voice." He sings in an insane 6 octaves, and can do anything from rapping, beatboxing, scatting, clean AND unclean (distorted) singing, and I've even heard him do stuff like opera and obscure techniques like throat singing.
1:02 TMW you ask yourself "Where did I go wrong in life, and what tf did I do to deserve this punishment?" 2:23 TMW you finally start to "get" Faith No More. 4:43 TMW you realize that Faith No More is awesome, and Mike Patton is a mad genius. Man, your reactions here are just priceless!
I've loved them since before Patton. When this came out, grunge was starting, so I think this album was somewhat ignored for the "new sound" that was coming out. I loved it though.
@@cheshirepat30 Yeah they sorta fit more with that 'prog' vein of Living Color and Jane's Addiction and Queensrych I thought at the time. (Alice and Chains would be there too if they didn't happen to be from Seattle.)
Why on earth is Tomahawk hardly ever mentioned around these fnm comments? They have 1 incredible album, 1 awesome album, and 2 really good albums. It makes no sense to me to love Angel Dust/Album of the Year (which I do as well) and disregard Tomahawk. The combo of Patton and Dennison is perfect.
"He's singing in three or four voices!" HA! You have NO IDEA! I've owned this album since day one. This song has been on my workout playlist for years. I have never once read the lyrics. Never once knew what the hell he was singing other than the chorus. This was both entertaining and enlightening. Guess I should have read my CD liner notes, lol.
Bought it first day it came out in Germany. "Easy" was not on my CD. Kinda made me pissed off and proud, at the same time. I swear I was the first fan in my small town, and possibly the only female one, there, for a loooong time. I danced to MC on an empty dancefloor before everybody else jumped on the bandwagon.
I think watching the lyrics as you listen ruins it. I like imagining my own if I can’t understand what is being sung. And sometimes it’s just supposed to be about the _SOUND_ words make - not what they mean (as Kurt Cobain liked to do so often in so many of his songs as well), but watching the words will distract you, making you try to find a meaning to them (not that there isn’t great meaning in his lyrics here, just like I love the meaning of Maynard’s lyrics from Tool/A Perfect Circle). It’s cool to know what the real lyrics are, but I so like my own version that I have made up and I have sung to this song for so many years as well! 😁
Welcome to the world of Mike Patton, one of the highest ranged vocalists ever. Check out more Faith no more, and also his seemingly endless other projects, like Mr. Bungle, Tomahawk, Peeping Tom, etc.
Lol I worked at an independent record store around 2000. We had black middle aged detail cops working there, and I played the FNM version of "Easy". They HATED it. Fwiw I still think it's an ok version and the b-side german song is a jam.
Just a Man for sure. Not only does it demonstrate his range to a larger degree, but it shows how varied the band's sound could be. Also, Ashes to Ashes is amazing.
I always love it when someone discovers this band/singer/song/album for the first time. Angel Dust is one of the most mature rock albums that has ever existed. The sound of musicians at their creative peak.
Mike Patton is the Vocalist of Faith No More, there are 5 musicians in total. Mikes vocals are versatile, original, powerful and chameleonic but that only scratches the surface. A great song to listen to is Land of Sunshine as that really showcases his operatic and classical training it also sets the mood for the whole Angel Dust album.
He also did a large majority of the "instrument" sounds on Bjorks album Medulla. Side note, there's no instruments on the album. All of the beats and sounds are done using voices and noises.
I born 1981...1st time listened it in 1994...now is 2020...yeahhh i still listened it without bored....FNM legends...5 people in a band...only one mike patton only voice...powerrrr!!!
Their best album in my opinion. Crack Hitler, Kindergarten, Smaller and Smaller, Everythings Ruined, Land of Sunshine, Small Victory, Malpractice are all great songs that were way ahead of their time. Then there are what I consider two of the greatest songs ever written Jizzlobber, and Caffeine. 5 members in the band. All lead vocals performed by the greatest singers of all time, Mike Patton.
Mike Patton can do everything from a silent whisper to an angelic choirboy to a satanic roar and everything in between. He's got hundreds of voices in his arsenal, so if you're impressed by this song.....wow. This is Mike playing it pop and safe. 😁
Angel Dust should be in any music lover's collection. A must. The album arguably one of the best rock albums of all-time. Highly influential. And as for Patton... he'll take you on a musical journey.
You might have heard them on the radio covering the commodores "easy", Mike pattons vocal range is crazy lol A song I'm sure that will get ya is "just a man". Really diverse genres from this band. Keep up the great reactions 💪
What a fantastic reaction. Welcome to the wonderful world of Mike Patton. I highly recommend you search his entire library. He is one of the greatest singers of all time.
I've never realized how interesting the lyrics are before. I remember buying this cassette tape when i was 12 years old and the clerk informing me how great the entire album was.
I've always loved Angel Dust. From when I first heard Midlife Crisis on Z-Rock in the real early 90"s. Kindergarden is another great one with a real bluesy bass. The whole CD is one of the most influential of the 90"s. But they are still so underrated. And who knows why. Great reaction, Jamel
So glad to see you like and appreciate Mike Patton and Faith No More. Thank you for sharing! As others have pointed out Faith No More is possibly the most under rated band of its time. Mike Patton is lyrical and musical genius (6 octaves, 1/2 note range (Eb1 to E7) and it’s makes me so happy that you are listening to this masterpiece of a song and sharing it. Midlife Crisis is an incredible song and Angel Dust one of their best albums. Check out the Song, The Real Thing (from, The Real Thing Album) Mike wrote the lyrics to this song over a 24 hour period when he had just joined the band replacing Chuck Mosley (love him too and may he RIP) when he was 19/20 years old. Incredible lyrics and song. It’s my favorite. Zombie Eaters, Land of Sunshine, Crack Hitler, Caffeine, Everything’s Ruined, Kindergarten, Strips search, last cup of sorrow, helpless, Matador, Separation Anxiety. Also his bands Tomahawk, God Hates a Coward and Fantomas, Twin Peaks: Fire walk with me are amazing songs. faithful Faith No More and Mike Patton fan for 30 years! 🖤
Mike Patton is my fav singer of all time. You need to check out more of him. He's got his fingers in so many pies. My fav faith no more song btw is 'Everything's Ruined'.
I literally stopped being friends with a woman because she said, "I can't stand Mike Patton! He vomits all over music." And THAT was THAT. Good riddance to her. To top it off ... SHE is a vocalist, herself!
Yup, that's Mike Patton singing, he has been in music so long that it's hard to keep up with his origins. That song specifically there's a live video of showing him transform his voice inflections on command in the most perfect ways. Mike Patton also voiced "The Darkness" in the video game based off of the comic, he has the video of him recording his voices for the game up, it's incredible, he's a vocal genius.
The vocalist is Mike Patton. He's one of the most talented male vocalists in recording history, right up there with Harry Nilsson, and Otis Redding. There were five members in FNM at the this was recorded. The song, itself, is about inherited wealth, and the confusing legacy attached to such things. This theme comes up a couple of times on Angel Dust.
Give thankhs for posting. Love to see your appreciation of music. One of my favorite songs & albums of any genre. Bought this on my high school graduation day in June ‘92 (Lakewood, Nj) at The Freehold Raceway Mall in Freehold, NJ. Rolled up to graduation in my Mitsubishi Eclipse killin’ this! There was a group of us that broke the mold and listened to every genre of music during those times. Side note (if no one mentioned it yet) Mike Patton does all the vocal vibrations and noises for the main Creature in I am Legend with Will Smith.
@@DrBonely my mother of all people introduced me to them in the early 90s and i was hooked! sadly i was in the hospital during their last live show in my area before peter died so i never got to see them live. what are your go to songs?
@@DrBonely awesome! die with me is on the top of my list followed by she burned me down...but in reality its so hard to pick favorites lol...rock on bud!
@@DrBonely i just dicovered something tonight!!! and you popped in my head lol. search "Nosferatu 1998" on youtube. its an old remastered vampire movie but the soundtrack is type-o-negative!!! im only 5 minutes in so i cant tell you how good it is but i just felt the need to tell someone and you are literally the only other person i have found that is into Type_O_Negative
5 band members, Mike Patton is the vocalist and he has many voices, he has the largest vocal range in rock music (6 octaves), he's a workaholic and has been putting out music since the late 80s. Faith No More is my favorite band but you should DEFINITELY check out more Mike Patton projects including Tomahawk, Peeping Tom, Lovage, Mr. Bungle, Fantômas, etc... He's just brilliant. LOVE YOUR REACTION VIDEO, I love to see people vibe to Mike Patton for the first time. It's magical.
Mike Patton is doing the deep parts AND the high parts, dude has crazy range. Check out their BBC live session of you can. Might not be able to get away with a reaction vid though 🤷♂️
There aren’t many musicians/singers like Mike Patton. I too have followed his career with interest, knowing that you’re gonna get something special every time. He turns dust into gold. Mike hasn’t been the best recently and hope he finds the strength to make more and more music for our ears for years to come. Thanks J AKA J for all your reactions. Great channel 👊🏼✌🏼
I remember hearing this on a TV chart show when I was little. I was into songwriting even back then so I knew some stuff, and I fell instantly in love with the prechorus bridge with its sliding 2nd note and its sliding 7th-8th tease. To a young autistic girl who hardly understood anything going on around her, some things in life took on a kind of mysterious taboo like I'd ask myself "am I supposed to know this exists?" A lot of music fell into that category and catching this song was one of those.
Check out one of the many compilation videos on him, and see the range, versatility and many different genres he sings! Absolutely amazing person! Mike Patton - Singer Jim Martin - Lead Guitar - No Longer in band, but was for this song Billy Gould - Bassist Mike Bordin - Drums Roddy Bottum - Keys / Backing vocals
Genuinely awesome when I see a music lover react like this to my favorite band. Kudo's Jamel. Hope you have started digging up Mike Patton's multiple other musical projects! Cheers!
I love watching younger generations reacting to and appreciating songs and music from my teenage years! I always liked this band since I was about 13 or so. I had "the Real Thing" (1989?) on cassette tape (with the song "Epic," which is likely their most well-known song) and I had their "Angel Dust" album, off of which this is their more well-known song, on cassette and CD. Hearing this brings back so many memories! I'd love to hear a reaction to "the Real thing," off of the album of the same name, as well as "Underwater Love" from that same album.
LOVE this freaking tune!! I cannot BELIEVE YOU CHECKED THIS OUT!! You are SUCH a rockstar of a musical explorer! BAD ASS group of musicians and one of my favorite songs for many years! Snarling, fed up lyrics, deep powerful melody, seriously cathartic song!! JAMEL!! CHECK OUT THE LIVE VERSION WHERE THEY DROP INTO STRAWBERRY LETTER 23 by BROTHERS JOHNSON!
Patton is a mad genius, he has done so many genres and ranges of music it boggles the mind. I would very HIGHLY recommend an obscure album of his that even some of his fans are not aware of. The comments will be full of the usual songs and bands from Patton, so I'm going to throw this one over to you. Caution, this is NSFW, and it is hilarious, yet damn good musically at the same time, 'Lovage Music To Make Love To Your Old Lady By': ru-vid.com/video/%D0%B2%D0%B8%D0%B4%D0%B5%D0%BE-X6mAIR9-vgI.html
Thats Dan the Automater produced album. Cool. I never realised that Mike Patton was FNM lead singer Sweet!😃 👍 Lovage also features Chest Rockwell aka Prince Paul.
I would say they are my favorite band ever. There are 5 guys in the band. This album has Mike Patton on vocals, Jim Martin on guitar, Billy Gould on bass, Roddy Bottum on keyboards and Mike “Puff” Bordin on drums. If you want to go down the FNM rabbit hole, I would suggest “Epic” since that was their first big hit. If you go to the Angel Dust Album, “Land of Sunshine” is a great track. “King For A Day” is an amazing song, as is “Gentle Art of Making Enemies”. “Stripsearch” and “Pristina” on Album of the year are amazing songs. The latest album “Sol Invictus” is a great album with “Superhero”, “Matador” and “Cone of Shame” I hope you check them out, such an amazing band and Mike Patton is an amazing vocalist who did the animal sounds on the Will Smith film “I Am Legend”. I highly recommend checking out his other with the Peeping Tom, Mondo Cane, Fantomas and Me. Bungle. He is all over the place genre-wise and can fit in to just about any style
This popped up in my recommended after I'd been listening to this on YT Music. What a great video 😂 Welcome to the world of Mike Patton - complete genius. Great job, subscribed 👍
I'm just echoing the other comments at this point when I suggest The Real Thing. I was 15 when that album was released in 90, and the videos they released on MTV did not prepare me for what I consider their magnum opus. I had to literally sit down and close my eyes in order to create enough space in my brain to process the music and lyrics (and still do to this day when I listen to it). I was obsessed with FNM after that, and was given the greatest birthday present that year when I was given concert tickets to see them open for Billy Idol. It was my first big arena show, and still ranks in my top 5.
