I can be a bit wary of covers, but when they manage the difficult task of staying true to the original song, yet giving it a twist, I'm very appreciative. Case in point right here.
@@sydIRISH You are wrong... Mike Patton has 6 Octaves + 1/2 tones Corey Taylor has 5 Octaves + 2 tones The current Guiness record holder is 10 octaves by name of Tim Storms(but he does voice acting not singing)
Mike Patton is the most gifted vocalist in the world regardless of genre, a range of 6 octaves and he uses...every...single...one of them to perfection...in essence 6 times the man that Anthony Kiedis is or ever will be!
Played that one over the phone to my girlfriend long distance once when she lived apart. She cried, we got married a year or two later! Cheers Mr Patton haha
Have you seen him in studio (2015, aged very well) singing "This Guy's In Love..." by Burt Bacharach? Sends chills of delight through my body every time I listen. His vocal range is on full display, magnificent. Let's see that punk Kiedis do that one.
groovy, catchy, laid-back tune..............about the emotional aftermath of a rape. faith no more is often the musical equivalent of being punched in the face by an iron fist wearing a velvet glove.
"This guy is" more than rock. He has so many projects in his catalog, I couldn't name them all from memory. Not all rock, either. This cover gets me every time. I always have to listen to it twice. I used to go to a little bar with a friend of mine and play pool and play songs on the juke box. I would put this on twice in a row. I didn't care that it made some people scratch their heads. I just had to here that Eeoooow. Lol!!!
Saw these guys in a little dive bar, so many years ago. Back when it must not have cost much to book them for your club. There was only a handful of people in the joint, and they played to us with all the passion of playing to a full auditorium. They pulled up chairs and drank with us after the show. Amazing night.
Tomahawk’s God Hates a Coward. Mr Bungle’s Retrovertigo. Fantomas’ The Godfather, or Ave Satani. Lovage’s Book of the Month. You won’t be sorry. Great range of styles here.
Of course this is a Commodores song written by Lionel Richie, but if you hear this song on the radio or over the P.A in a store, you'll only ever hear this version, for some reason. I love Faith No More, so it's never been a problem for me. That incredible voice belongs to Mike Patton. He is a brilliant musician.
I highly recommend the songs "Midlife Crisis" "We Care A Lot" and "Falling to Pieces". Chuck Moseley sang on "We Care A Lot" but the rest is all Mike Patton. Mike Borden(the drummer) is the driving force on "Midlife Crisis".
Brother, I’m loving watching you discover my favourite band of all time. I’m getting goosebumps watching you. You’re exactly like I was the first time I discovered these songs. Now my man, if you want to continue the Mike Patton journey I suggest you react to some songs he did with a different band. So my humble request: Please let me see you check out Pink Cigarette by Mr Bungle or Stub A Dub by Mr Bungle. Stub a Dub is about his best friend’s blind dog. Ps. My avatar is a pic of me and Mike Patton.
We Care A Lot was used on the show Dirty Jobs with Mike Rowe for a while. There are some of the FNM catalog that might not be quite as friendly. Midlife Crisis is good and Epic were good. Not sure about Crack Hitler, Be Aggressive, and Jizzlober though. They might cause a few problems.
Layne Stanley had such an incredibly soulful voice. Pure & clear when he wanted it to be. This song is a whole mood. I miss him as well as many other talents from his genre & decade.
Mike Patton, the six octave genre-less monster. Much love for him and this band. My fave band ever. Korn my second fave band, and Korn may have never existed without Faith No More in this world...
LOVED this reaction.... loved how shocked you were at Mike Patton's white boy soul (he's got a lot of it!). He also sings in an Opera style, as well as death metal, and 1,000 other genres, while always making it his own :). He's the best!
Man. I was smiling through this whole reaction. So glad you ended up listening to this one. The singer is so diverse, well, the whole band is. If you did We Care A Lot next you’d see even more just the spectrum of their talent. Every song just reveals so much about them.
Amazing cover & tribute. The real mssg here is that art appreciates art. This is a great band paying respect to another great band, REGARDLESS of genre or style. There is SO much great music to experience. I feel sorry for people who have "musical blinders" on when it comes to listening to or giving something from outside their normal preferences a chance. Their musical worlds are so closed off & they're truly missing out on so much. They don't realize that it's OK to enjoy multiple styles & genres. That's what music is all about. It's called VARIETY people...
Thank you thank you thank you for this. I was telling my friend how i been loving watching bunch of reactions to rocl bands n rock songs lately..he recommended chemcing out Mike Patton ones. So jumped on it. As fan of Faith No more..i couldnt wait to see. Yours is first one i came to. Love how you did one that was just audio n were feeling it. His vocal range is incredible. He can do so much with his voice. This was awesome watching you get goosebumps gave me goosebumps 👍🎧🎙🤙
I love coming home from work and getting to go on these adventures with you. Stopping and really listening to a song i used to love, or some I never heard. You remind me to appreciate music, and I'm grateful.
Speaking of great covers, you should check their versions of War Pigs and I Started a Joke. Don't know of any band/singer that covers as broad a spectrum of styles and do it so well.
One of my favs is his 2015 in studio version of Burt Bacharach's "This Guy's In Love..."; with all the respect and admiration I have for Mr. Bacharach, I personally think Mr. Patton scored big time on that one.
@@miconis123 There was an interview with the band at the time and the question was why Easy? The reply as I recall? The band played this ( MP described it as a cheesy pop-song) because the fans wanted to hear War Pigs and he didn't want to sing it.
What’s really crazy is that Mike Patton also has another side project Loveage and the name of that album is music to make love to your old lady too, really cool chill sexy vibe
Also check out 'Mojo' by Peeping Tom (Mike Patton - FnM singer, Dan the Automator and Rahzel). He had Kool Keith, Norah Jones and Massive Attack on the album). You're welcome 😉
Yes my man! You totally get it, this band were one of a kind. Whether you like soul, jazz, hip hop, metal or country, these guys have something for you. Keep on this path!
One of the best singers ever, keep it up. Should check out some of his other bands like Mr Bungle. One if my favorite metal bands Between the Buried and Me you should check out, big influence for them.
I just love your videos, and I have only just discovered you today! Your reactions show exactly how I feel about these amazing songs! Thank you for your videos. 🖤
Mistake: " It is a rock band".....nah, it's a band of brilliant misfits that lean towards the harder. Sometimes Lionel Richie. Check out the "Poker Face " cover at 2009 Download Festival. :)
So glad you caught that Jamel! The best "Ewwww" in rock history! That sold me on his version first time I heard it, it's so Mike Patton! Another great reaction Jamel thanks.
So, I've never really been inclined to click on a reaction vid before. Couldn't see the point. It'd be like watching a TV show about people watching TV shows (fellow Brits- goggle box?!). However, something made me click on one of your vids and here I am, a solid 2 hrs later still watching. Many of the tracks you react to are like old friends to me. You think you know a song inside and out, mechanically and emotionally from listening to it for many years but your reactions have garnered new appreciation for these old favourites and for that I thank you. I'm reminded of times in my youth sitting round friend's houses; Being introduced to new music, talking about it, just listening to it, being inspired by it and all the emotions that go along with it. Getting goosebumps from it :) Sincerely, thank you.
Goosebumps and stanky face. Enjoyed reaction cause I already did THAT ABOUT 20+ yrs ago with many of your reaction vids.. Brings back memories... thanx
cheers for the vid. i really recommend 'evidence' by faith no more if u return to them, 'be aggressive' i think would be something a little different too.
This is got to be one of my favorite songs in the whole world Lionel Richie is a lyrical God but when I first heard this song Some 20-25 years ago I thought to myself wow did Lionel Richie recut this song and to my surprise no it was Faith No More for which the lead singer is Mike Patton another lyrical and vocal genius
brodemonz I must’ve slipped into a parallel universe where Faith No More wasn’t a hugely successful and influential band and Patton almost completely unknown. How did that happen?
Lmao, love what you did there. Nice, and easy. I thought this was very well done, humorous in a subtle manner, unlike any video I've seen before. Wonderful. The "ladies" added the WTF to this video, but you know they fit in quite well. Love it. Damn it, had to edit cause this is not the video I was hoping for. Still it's a gem.
Exactly as Prof. AR put it. He did marry an Italian lady but to woo her he had to speak her language. From 1994 until their separation in 2001 they split their time between San Francisco and Bologna, Italy. He does speak fluent Italian.
Nice to see how another feels like I did when I first heard this, 1000 listens later, still amazed. And yes this is a rock band! Crazy isn't it. Thanks for sharing keep up these listens and we'll keep watching. Take care....Scott and Kimmie
You've heard Primus and FNM, now you gotta hear some Melvins. Houdini is the best entry point, but Bullhead is a sludge/stoner/metal/artrock masterpiece!
That solo in the middle is also absolutely killer, the guitar is driven so hard yet he controls it perfectly. You are right on, is one of the best covers ever.
