Goth is commonly confused with gothic. Gothic is a style while goth is a music genre. There are a loth of goths that enjoy the Gothic style but you don't have to be Gothic to be considered goth. If you're really into goth music then you're goth.

Now traditionally that " of the goth style" implies the Uber goth or ancient Germanic tribes, such as gothic cathedrals implies the cathedrals of goth style. In this case goth is a style, a tradition of art first derived from those tribes rather than say all that we say gothic. So it is easy to confuse my friend.

If they don't listen to the music they aren't emo. It's literally the definition of emo.the look is secondary. Literally called "gothic literature" and thats exactly where most of the gothic fashion comes from. It comes mostly from the literature, guess where most of the songs come from or is based on? Gothic literature.
