Good afternoon! In this week's video we are talking about how to convince people you are good at painting, even if you're not! I talk about creating atmosphere, how to choose your colors, a guaranteed way to choose gorgeous color schemes, and how to trick the eyes using impressionist style painting.
Thank you to Dicey D Hobbies for helping me print this model!: www.etsy.com/shop/diceydhobbies

@@fpsaddicted1 I could be way off base, but I get the feeling that Lyla uses language like that to demystify these techniques and make things feel manageable. So often it feels like there is a huge gulf between "table-ready" base-wash-drybrush style and compition level stuff her videos make better painting make sense.

I always thought that it didn't really matter that I have the artistic ability of a small pebble. I was good enough at painting shapes to get by. Now I've moved from table top minis to busts and larger scale display pieces, my lack of artistic ability (colour theory, understanding light, being able to picture things in my head rather than having to actually see them in reality!) is starting to hold me back. I guess I just need to find my own style. Am I alone in experiencing this?

I am 17 second into this and I have ONE major issue. These aren't tricks that make ppl.think you are good. The use for atmosphere, contrast, and texture are just fundamental elements of painting. If you use the theories underneath these well it makes your stuff better than if painted without. Regardless of technical skill.
@LylaMev
@LylaMev 2 года назад
Of course, but these are skills that can be applied without great skill in painting. The details are what most people find difficult, so I've created an equation without them. Paint to thick? Fine. Can't paint eyes? Still good. Hate glazing? No worries here.
@Tristanosaurs
@Tristanosaurs 2 года назад
That is fair, I think injist have a thing against when ppl refer to learning the theories as "cheating" cause IMO it is the furthest thing from cheating.
@Boodmaster21
@Boodmaster21 2 года назад
