@@rayk126 lol, that’s a good idea, but I don’t think it would have the same affect. I’m hoping it would help get the wood be crook get caught, and if I’m forced to open the safe, I want to give that person something to get them out of my house and away from my family.

It reminds me of when playgrounds had those amazing two story metal slides that could launch us off the bottom at terminal velocity, unless it was a hot sunny day. On hot summer days, the slide would get so hot it would melt skin, which REALLY slowed a kid down & left us with 2nd degree burns. ... so worth it. #MakePlaygroundsFunAgain

8:00 - nope, it has little to do with diamagnetism. It is caused by eddy currents that are induced in the coin by changing magnetic field. Those currents "try" to oppose the magnetic field change hence the effect. The lower the electrical resistivity of the material of the coin, the higher the value of eddy currents, the higher the slowing down effect. Diamagnetic is a material being slightly repelled by magnet (by stationary magnetic field), you can observe that by hanging a coin on a long string and putting a magnet near it. It should stabilize in a configuration where coin and magnet are stationary and coin is pushed away slightly, this is diamagnetism. You can also observe that when you try to move magnet closer to the coin it will momentarily repel the coin with a greater force, and if you try to move the magnet away it will pull the coin with it. This an effect of eddy currents also.

One of the best simple test vids I’ve ever seen. Kudos Speg. You need a small rare earth magnet. Scale. Calipers and coin specs or simply a known good coin of same type. You can SEE that 10% difference in thickness. And ping. I don’t think a fake can fool you with these things and this video for guidance. Stack for your kids and grandkids!

Found a fake Maple Leaf proof that I had purchased months ago from my LCS. I brought it in to show them when I realized it. After a little back and forth with the grumpy old man that owns the place, he begrudgingly gave me a 2021 maple to replace it. Alls well that ends well I guess...

My Dad bought some fake Silver Dollars from China from a well known online Auction site. He gave me one. I used the magnet trick on it and it stuck to the coin like it was made of steel. It did say in the ad they were "German Silver" I looked up German Silver and found it's not Silver from Germany but a metal alloy used in making Silverware. I did help him return the fake coins to China got him a refund and gave the guy a Nasty review.

If it said German silver it wasn't the sellers fault. That's your dad's for buying something without researching it. And to leave a bad review cuz your dad was wrong and didn't know what he bought is definitely not cool. 🙄

@@Card_Asylum The ad said " 2020 Silver Eagles" It then said in the small print at the bottom of the ad that it was German Silver. The seller was asking $1 less than the price of real Eagles. A Eagle is legal tender. So yes I have a MAJOR problem with people selling COUNTERFEIT MONEY.

So German silver I’ve purchased actually had a coating over top of brass. Not even German silver which isn’t silver silver lol.

@@Spegtacular What you bought was Silver plated Brass. If you cut into German Silver it looks silver all through. I thought the auction ad sounded wrong when it said German Silver I thought a Eagle would have American Silver in it. My Dad is Austrian so when he saw German Silver he thought it meant Silver made in Germany. So a American Eagle made with German Silver in China means Counterfeit money. Here is the Wikipedia description of German Silver. Nickel silver, Maillechort, German silver, Argentan, new silver, nickel brass, albata, alpacca, is a copper alloy with nickel and often zinc. The usual formulation is 60% copper, 20% nickel and 20% zinc. Nickel silver is named due to its silvery appearance, but it contains no elemental silver unless plated.

I love all silver Libertads, but I do prefer the newer design. I like that the Mexican mint has offered the Libertads in multiple weights over the years, though I refuse to buy any fractional coins (less than an ounce) due to extraordinarily high premiums. The premiums on the 1 ounce, or heavier, coins are already high enough!

excellent vid for educational purposes Speg! Lots of good information for whatever level of testing we as consumers can do! I am looking for a sigma metalytics but so far have not been able to get one. Happily I have (so far) never gotten a fake...but I have very few high premium bullion coins in my stack, mostly 90% constitutional. Again THANKS for a very good vid!! Happy Easter amigo!!

Very interesting. The sound test that I hear from this video was good. I heard the fake as like a chirp from a cricket. The real silver had a noticeable ring to it. The homemade mag slide was very cool.

The magnets are not technically mounted as they’re simply connected together via magnetism. They’re basically resting on top of wood.

Hi SPEG, Really glad I have come across your channel, I have watched a few of your video's and have already learnt quite a bit from you, as you maybe can tell I'm new to this silver stacking, I really love the Morgan Doller, I now only have 3 and another 2 on the way, Here in the UK they are not really abundant and quite hard to get hold of without paying the high prices over my side of the pond compared with you guy's. When you measure the width of the coin you do it based on the outside rim which is what sticks out the farthest, the relief probably stick out just as far too but no further than the rim? Where did you get all the magnets for the slide?

Is it possible to do a thermal type test with a small 1 0z silver coin? I was so impressed when I put an Ice cube on a 100oz silver bar and the ice cube melted like the silver bar was hot. Thank you for these awesome videos. :)

I love the Libertad's and the Mexican gold as well. Mexico does it right. I was extremely lucky recently and I was able to pick up 22 unopened Mexican Mint rolls of the earlier version Libertad from my LCS. I feel very fortunate to have been able to get those.

For anyone wondering where to get Libertads while in Mexico, just go to any BANCO AZTECA branch and you'll get them right off the bat. If you are in Mexico city you can also try BBVA bank (In other locations you would have to pay shipping fees). You're welcome.

I recently found out the only "SilverTowne Prospector & Burro SiLvEr bar" I ever owned was NOT Silver. It was Nordic Gold. I bought it from someone on RU-vid who did a lot of auctions, & seemed to have a good reputation. They no longer do auctions. I only found out it was fake, when I decided to melt it for a "Silver" pour. Ironically, I poured it into a mold of Mjolnir (Thor's Hammer). It ruined my Silver pouring crucible. I'm keeping it as a reminder to check, and double check, then triple check ALL of my Silver. The more you know 🌈

Great video. Love the eddie current slide visual. Consider cutting a piece of Teflon non-stick grill sheet to fit between the rails but covering the magnets to lessen any scraping or scratching of the precious metal coins. It is very thin and available even at Walmart. There is even thinner stuff sold for heat transfer presses, as being thin lets the heat travel through quicker, but is an order of magnitude more expensive. New sub here.

The couple fakes that I have found got the word fake punched into each side. It does feel good to get them out “circulation “ so nobody can get fooled by that particular piece. Too bad thousands if not millions of fakes are still out there.

Warning. Bullion exchanges sold me a fake gold 2016 libertad. Its weight was barely off.but enough to queation.. Took it to a scrap yard paid them to use xrf gun. It was fake looked perfect... always test your stuff even from a reputable dealer. I sold it back to them because the lcs rejected it

Hey, I weighed out a libertad and it came in at .999 ozt. All other specs are in alignment. Should I be concerned?

Could be scale calibration. Do you have another similar coin to weigh as well? .999 is nothing to worry about.

I know I'm a little late here lol but great video! Shame on me for not owing a caliper considering I calibrate them. Btw, me personally, I prefer the older design but the ones I've purchased from APMEX have came scratched or with small damages or discoloration. I've read this is how they come from the mint, but who knows 🤷‍♂️.

Question??? In Vegas there’s slot machines that give silver coins as the grand prize they r in a plastic cover.. they r pretty heavy.. they say silver token and the name of the casino and they have a gold strip around the coin.. I don’t know if u seen those slot machines but what u think are they real silver? Or what u know about silver coins in slot machine as payouts?
