You should always be aware of your surroundings and the atmosphere of the room and spirits of those your about to face, if you see in your minds eye that something is off then its your choice to call it out , but if you think its beneficial for the team even if short term to remain silent then its on you , but such is the way of our deceitful world now , blurred is the path between black and white, and its smoothed over as a joke again and again. But its all good because someone learned something, yeah they got a first hand lesson in ninjitsu, or worse..

Props to the dude at 5:32 for complimenting the “white belt” at the cost of his own ego - takes a certain maturity to do that without making excuses Separately: It’s neat how you can “feel” that a person is experienced or skilled within seconds of a role… I know “game recognizes game” in all sports but it’s an extra cool experience in BJJ because it’s happening to ur body, as opposed to just being observed: 8:24

Nice to see how everyone was very humble around you despite maybe being a bit surprised at how skillful the "white belt" is. I'm a blue belt myself, and I'm super fortunate to train in an academy where the head coach always creates such a positive learning environment. Despite that, I've seen my fair share of high ranking white belts or blue belts who let their ego get the best of them. One white belt actually hyperextended the new guy's arm out of frustration that the new guy was able to deflect all his previous submissions attempts From what I gathered in my years of training (nothing compared to the black belts of course), yes you can have better technique and more experience, but that doesn't guarantee that you'll be dominant during a fight. Even without any martial arts experience, the new guy can be good based on a naturally fast reaction time, being a fast learner, physically taller and heavier etc. In addition to partnering with higher ranking belts to learn technical skills better, I also found it really helpful to work with the white belts that give me a hard time, because I can work on my weaknesses and solidify my knowledge by teaching them stuff. And just a bonus, try to use an advantage you have that most of your teammates can't do (mine is doing the oversplits), it may help you out during a crucial point of the fight Basically, no matter what rank you're in right now, stay humble and be open to learning from anyone. When a lower ranking belt gives you a hard time, instead of getting angry, take it as an opportunity to better your skills. Who knows, you might learn something from the new guy in terms of fighting strategies
@JustMe-vz3wd
@JustMe-vz3wd Год назад
Good point and so true. Many ppl avoid training with white belt or just dont take it seriously. And if somethong goes wrong, its always the fault of the white belt! I learned things i ONLY could learn with beginners, that is, to really adapt to "mistakes" the beginner makes, and suddenly, magic magic, once tuned into the beginners mind, a great practise. Dont patronize beginners, or try to "teach" them, just learnfrom their beginners mind and attitude.
@mht4908
@mht4908 Год назад
@@JustMe-vz3wd Exactly, I really like rolling with white belts that are much taller and heavier than me, because I know in the real world, people don't play by the rules in street fights. Combat wise, I find that they can attack/defend with an outside of the box method, so sometimes I can end up learning something from them that I may never encounter from seasoned BJJ veterans

That blue belt was fighting the arm bar like a title was on the line hahaha. I think Arthur was looking at the camera like “why doesn’t this dude just tap??”

this is really funny for me because he sort of moves like my coach, very deliberate and snake-like :D I would be pretty suspicious about him after a min or two into a roll hahahah. good stuff :)

Thanks! That's why I tried to do short drills and rounds so people wouldn't get too suspicious. By the end a few knew something was up though!

I’ve learned thinking about belts and approaching rolls focusing on it can stunt your bjj from a mental standpoint also. I adopted a mindset that I am a black belt already. I’m a 3 stripe blue. I study and watch black belt matches take notes. Try to keep sharping my fundamentals. And my game has exploded since I took the mindset. Not gonna lie and say I’ve subbed black belts but I have pass guards if black belts and took down brown belts. Subbed purples. All the high belts give me their full power because they know how I’m coming. (I cheat a little too with taking a edible before training) 😆 but I say if you’re a competitive blue and a year in make that mental switch “I’m a black belt”
