Exactly! I would have dumped them immediately, with a smile on my face. Then I would have realized my daughter and I were fighting so much because I gave this guy all of my attention. No one has ever come before my children. My stepdad cheated on my mom, then told her it was because she was spending so much time with me. I had cancer, found out I was pregnant, had an emergency C-section, and had only been home two weeks when she found out and he told her it was my fault. She had only been helping me three days a week. After that, I never saw her without him. They never came to visit. Not even after the birth of my next 4 babies. So I know how it feels, how her daughter felt.

Some people who lack empathy don't know they are different from others. If they suspect it they think it's because they're superior. They rationalize and carefully imitate people in order to give meaning to words and feelings they don't have, (remorse, pity, shame..). We all learn from others, imitate and pretend but their lying and pretending operates at a much higher level.

Just lacking emotional empathy doesn't make one a monster. Empathy is on a continuum with a normal distribution, so people vary in how much empathy they have, and there is both intellectual and emotional empathy. It's the desire to hurt others, or the indifference to another's suffering if that benefits oneself, that is the problem. Many people without emotional empathy live ethical lives. Many people with empathy do horrible things. Any time an individual is able to rationalize that the end justifies the means, they can put aside their empathy and destroy. Don't over simplify in looking at violent crime.

I once read that the first 30 minutes a child is missing is considered crucial. When my daughter was 12 I left her in the car to run into the grocery store to pick up something for dinner. When i returned she was not in the car. It took me 60 seconds before i called 911. When she saw police she appeared from her hiding as her ruse was intended to induce fear in me. We still have a difficult relationship 20 years later, but mothers who love their children dont hesitate and never give up. Never.

My then 4 year old did something similar. I was awake early with pregnancy insomnia and remembered I hadn't taken the bin to get picked up. It was about 5am but the truck comes around 6 so I got up and did that. When I came back to bed I went to check on my son and he wasn't in his bed. His father and I searched the house while we were calling emergency services. I was about to run and door knock (we lived on a stretch of coast that had steep cliffs to the ocean, and my head was thinking that maybe he was sleep walking) but just as I was about to wake the whole neighbourhood up he came out from the guest bedroom. We had checked everywhere but he was hiding behind a box under the bed. He was awake when I took the bins out and thought he would play hide n seek. It was a small town, so we heard the sirens getting closer before they stopped when we told them we found him. Heck, even when they are choking or something, I always have my phone ready. I think the detectives must have suspected her for a while. The poor kid. :(

It is a scary thing when Lucy Letby, Beverly Allit, and Vickie Jackson can obviously be the only ones who murdered these people under their care, and notice that they all three adamantly deny to this day that they had anything to do with those deaths.. What is it about serial killers in the nursing profession that they don't take responsibility and they are like completely separated from those actions in their own minds when they in fact are 100% guilty

I believe it may have something to do with them all looking at themselves as gods due to the profession they chose. What's interesting is when I hear these stories on different crime episodes, they'll paint the extrovert in a positive light (life of the party) and friendly. The introvert is painted in a negative light as if they need help. What ends up happening is the life of the party ends up dead because they aren't careful about who they allow in their life or they are the killer....hiding who they really are. In my life's experience, I've noticed that quite a few extroverts hide insecurities or something grim. They wear a mask of friendly. I don't take anyone at face value. I'm the introvert that sits back and notice what's missed by others.

She never looks inward; her eyes are wide open and look at the world and while she hides behind her hands, occasionally, that is not the same as looking inward.) “There’s no art To find the mind’s construction in the face. He was a gentleman on whom I built an absolute trust.” - William Shakespeare, “Macbeth” (Act 1, Scene 4.) The words are spoken by King Duncan, of a certain Thane (that is, a Lord) of Gloucester, whom he believes has betrayed him. He strips the Old Lord and presents his title and honors on Macbeth, it leads to a worse betrayal. If your instinct tells you something is wrong, do your best to protect yourself, but just remember, it’s not the ones you can tell are evil that are the most dangerous. It’s the ones who look perfectly normal, whose motives aren’t even questioned until after blood has been shed.
