I've been let down by KO2s on several vehicles now. Switched to the wildpeak and they perform just as good off-road and perform much better on road, great choice for a daily driver weekend off-roader!
I’ve had Nitto Ridge Grapplers- downright dangerous on wet pavement or rocks. I’ve had Cooper Discoverer S/T Maxx- great tire, just limited sizes available. Excellent on wet roads and rocks as well as everything else. Can ride a bit firmer is only downside. I got Falken Wildpeak AT3Ws in 33s load range C as OEM on Gladiator Rubicon. Loved em so much when I went to 35s went Wildpeak AT3Ws in load range E. Love em even more. May never try another tire. Does it all great, and probably one of the best mudders and snow tires for an aggressive AT, probably due to the deepest grooves of any AT. Long live the Wildpeaks.
@@Chris-te7uk so that in a comparison list with other tires, it won’t have to be readjusted to read quickly with other tires as the industry standard is in 32nds. Such as another tire at 15/32 etc etc.
the E load in 35’s is what keeps me away from the Falkens. what psi are you running them on the rubicon JL? i have a sahara and the stiffer E has me wondering what kind of ride i would get. i know they are over 100lbs with my wheel (fuel hostage)
@@pdiehm I wouldn’t let it prevent you. I run around 35 psi for daily and they feel good. Honestly I haven’t noticed much of a difference from the C load 33s. Granted I do carry about 400lbs of stuff, not including me, in my truck all the time. Just a note- I have a Rubicon which does have the upgraded Fox shocks. The one thing I think Jeep screwed up on the JT is the tires- yeah it’s very similar to a JL but the longer wheelbase makes a huge difference, both good and bad. Good is that it rides so much better. Bad is that it’s breakover is not good. It should come stock with 35s on it- it fixes the bad and if they have a load range of E it’s fine because of the good. Plus you get tougher sidewalls from Es. Happy hunting.
I've got the AT3WA on my pickup and they aren't amazing on wet hard surfaces, great for everything else and on the road in the dry you'd barely know you had all-terrain tyres on the vehicle aside from being heavier tyres they need a bit more to get going and harder braking. My other set of wheels for the pickup are Bridgestone Turanza t005 and I've got enhanced wet weather tyres on my other vehicles so definitely notice the difference on wet roads.
Had K02s on my 2019 Rubicon, other then mud they performed pretty well. I bought a Rubicon Gladiator in June of 2022 it has Falken wildpeak at3ws, so far I like them better. They air down farther and handle rock and sand. Just like the k02s they suck in deep mud. They are ATs.
I have KO2s on my Ram 2500 and they do fine with on road conditions thus far. I've only had them 6 months, but I have driven on wet roads ( which they do fine ), gravel roads ( fine as well ), and some mud ( also no problems ). The driver of any vehicle can maintain their vehicle with just about any reputable AT tire and since all manufacturers base their composition on the BFG is why I bought BFG.
It's a very good AT tire no doubt about it. You might want to check out it's comparison with Nitto Ridge Grappler, you'll like it. Find it on YT's homepage.
I have had BFs in the past and have the Falken Wildpeak AT3w on my truck now, The Wildpeaks are just as good if not better than the BFs. Most of the BFs that come into our shop have 3/4 to 1/2 tread life and are all cracked between the lugs.
Thanks - I really appreciated the video. I had been deciding between these 2 tires for my Tacoma and had decided on the Wildpeak. This video supported my decision. The other issue is that the KO2's are E load rated, which means they are significantly heavier than the Wildpeaks, which will have an impact on acceleration and gas mileage.
Thank you for the feedback, @dewarner12! I'm glad the video could assist in your decision-making. It's crucial to consider factors like weight, especially for overall vehicle performance. Happy driving with the Wildpeaks!
I bought my Mojave with the Falkens on it as OE- the only condition they completely fell apart on was mud. I had a lift and larger tire put on in March- the tire being the then on sale (though I was looking at them anyways) KO2s. I didn't get them in all conditions yet, but so far- loose dirt, check. Loose gravel and sand, check. Rocks, check. Fording water and performing wet, check. Asphalt, check I'm really (for the first time as an adult) looking forward to snow and mud season.
Maybe they fell apart because they got the off brand Falkens like I got on my new tundra. Like they're still wild peaks but they're not as good as they should be
I’ve always ran KO2’s, switched to wild peaks recently. In the rain there is no comparison, falken 100%. On the pavement falken rides smoother and creates less noise. Tires look pretty comparable as well. I went with the 121s due to hauling a trailer often. Went from 305/65 k02 to 285/70 wild peaks on a 2017 Tacoma 4wd. I am excited to try them in mud and gravel. I am in both conditions often. I have bfg mt’s on my party truck and have never gotten stuck. If your doing light/medium off-roading I think the falkens are gonna give BFG’s a run for their money. If your in mud a lot, you probably already have MT tires and that’s not what this comparison is about.
Yes Falken WIldpeak is pretty great at three things. Wet. Wear and Winter. That's they named this tire the 3W. BTW, how many miles did your run on KO2?
It's true, BFG KO2s have built a strong reputation in the all-terrain tire category, which is why they often become a benchmark in comparisons. They're known for their durability and performance in various conditions, which appeals to a wide range of off-road and all-terrain vehicle owners.
Put 275 55R 20 K02’s on my 2018 GMC Sierra Z71 42,000 miles ago. Wearing evenly as far as I can tell. Still have 8/32 tread depth remaining. Mostly on road driving and some gravel roads for work. Notice a bit of slipping on wet roads now, but lately the road noise has increased exponentially! Wife even commented she thought something was wrong with my truck. Keep pressure in spec and rotated every 5000 miles with an oil change. Don’t want to invest in a new set when I don’t need them but seriously thinking about changing them and selling them for a couple hundred bucks due to the treadlife remaining. Looking at the Falken Wildpeaks as an alternative. Mostly for the off-road looks, but want some capability if the need arises.
I've had both. I run them City & Hwy, I tow a 7k lbs Travel Trailer, and have run them on Pacific Northwest Winters, as well as gravel and heavy mud backroads. AT3W's beat the Ko2 for wet and snow, about the same for towing, neither are squishy, ride the same on dry. Both are decent on gravel but in mud they both suck equally. And when I say suck, I mean you better have a winch or a buddy with MT's to pull you out.. There really isn't an AT that's good in mud, the spacing is too tight to grab mud and eject it. AT3W's also have the deepest tread depth in class, far more than the KO2's and last way longer. The only inferior traits are the AT3W's are the heaviest AT tire on the market and fuel economy goes down and also they are super expensive right now... The used to be cheaper before Covid.
I have bfg ko2.......... perfect tire for people that like to be stuck in wet grass! It's terrible and gets no miles. About bald 20k miles on a jeep at high pressure.... never ever had this happen with any other tire that's decent... never ever buy them again. Actually didn't buy them they came stock... but no way
@@willrector9716 40 psi is way too high for a Jeep. The stock Jeep tires max psi is 50, so 40 is close to that threshold. I guarantee if you ran them at 32-35 and did a chalk test they’d last at least 50k Source: own a Jeep with stock KO2s as well. 30k miles on em and still have 55% tread depth
The biggest issue I had with the BFGs was they are horrible on standing water at highway speeds. With no way for the water to evacuate quickly (interlocking web) they hydroplane badly.
Good video. I've been using K02 tyres for a while now and I must say that I have been dissapointed of late. Had issues with side walls splitting before I even used them offroad and BFG told me to live with it. They did change them after some persuasion but it was not easy enough. I am also finding BFG tyres wear much quicker than they used to. Looking for a quality alternative and I think I found it. Thanks.
I always get my tires from discount tire so I don't have to argue with manufacturers. They have always done everything I have asked of them. Even when I had to warranty out one tire on my awd car which meant I had to replace all of my tires
I’m about to get my 4th set of wiled peaks thought about trying something different but they have been so good for me that I just can’t bring my self to try some thing els
Nice video. I've been running KO2s (285/60/20s) in western Colorado for about 35K miles on my Tundra. So far, these tires have done every thing I've asked of them. I pull a 5000 lb Travel Trailer, on road and in the desert. I travel in winter to ski resorts and do the occasional off road rock crawling. I know some complain about the "wet pavement" grip, but I've never experienced a problem with that. The tread wear has been great and they look new still. Having said all that... I'm thinking about the Falken's for my next set.
You should definitely try Falken (Wildpeak AT3w). The first thing that you feel on them is enhanced on road "wet" grip. As mentioned in the video, they named this tire the 3w, (Wet, Winter and Wear performance) and this tire checks all these boxes.
Charlie I live up on the Alpine Plateau in Colorado at 9400ft. I got talked into the Falkens and come from normally using Duratracs, or KO2’s. This winter the Falkens scared me on snow, they had very little lateral traction. I got stuck in the spring in my driveway on my Tundra. I had to drive around my Tundra with my Tacoma with KO2’s to get pulled out it was pathetic. I found out from Joe Bacal, who Toyo hired to help develop there AT3, that Falken’s changed the compound in between 1/20-1/21 for a more favorable compound for mileage but not for wet conditions. I am going to take a loss and give the Toyo AT3’s a try just so I have better snow performance.
Living in cold weather I’d only ever have AT tires for our short summers months (I agree with toyo) outside of that dedicated snow tires lie Michelin x ice
@@davidromero6335 Have you switched to the Toyo AT3's yet? Looking for new tires for my F150 FX4 and I'm considering the KO2's and AT3's. We're in NW Oregon so wet performance is as (or more) important than snow performance.
BFG KO2 DT version will last way longer than any all terrain tire, but the rubber is so hard that it will not perform as well in rain and ice conditions as softer rubber tires like Wildpeak. If you want the longest lasting all terrain tire get KO2 DT version BFGs.
Yes, also KO2 has a dual compound, it has a softer layer on top and a harder one underneath, whereas the softer one is still not as flexible as the Wildpeak. Thanks for sharing, do subscribe for upcoming ones.
I didn't get 20,000 miles out of my KO2's so I'm going with the AT/3's this time around. For the money I spent, I should have got a lot more out of them. I don't drive around in a carnival truck either. I had them rotated and balanced once and they were already shot so I never bothered going back in again. I'm not out rock crawling and flying around like an idiot. Sometimes I haul a 7x16 dual axle enclosed tool trailer. I have brand new tires on it and replaced the shackles, springs, and equalizers so it rolls down the highway like it's not even there. I've heard different experiences with the KO2's, but I'll never buy them again. Time to give the Falkens a shot. I don't think it can get any worse.
NICE INFORMATIVE VIDEO BUT HAD TO CUT IT SHORT AS THE BLOODY HORRIBLE UNNESSASRY BACKGROUND MUSIC WAS HORRIBLE. DO NOT INCLUDE ANYTHING BUT YOUR VOICE IN THESE VIDEOS THAT WOULD BE GRATELY APPRECIATED CHEERS.
Apologies for the inconvenience caused by the background music. Your feedback is valuable to us. We'll ensure that we minimize background sounds in our future videos. Thanks for your constructive criticism.
My Brother has the Faulken AT3W’s on his Ram 1500. He loves them. I had Cooper Discoverer XLT3’s on my 2018 3500 and they were awesome. I am planning to get the Faulken AT3W’s on my 2023 3500 when these Wrangler TrailRunners need to be replaced.
That's great to hear that both the Falken AT3W and Cooper Discoverer XLT3 have been performing well for you and your brother on different vehicles. It's always helpful to gather firsthand experiences from trusted sources when considering new tires. If you have had a positive experience with the Falken AT3W on your brother's Ram 1500 and you're planning to get them for your 2023 3500, it sounds like a solid choice. Keep in mind your specific needs and preferences to ensure you find the right tires for your vehicle.
I use to run KO2s on my Tacoma. I tried Toyos and now Falkens. By far the Falkens outperforms the other two. The KO2s are over priced and over rated in my opinion. The Three Peak rating in the Falkens makes for a perfect match here in North Idaho. But for a extreme Winter, the Blizzaks are what I run up here.
I have 10 ply ko2 on 2 vehicles…2002 Tacoma and a 2019 Tacoma. Lots of off road and lots of on road miles…60k per year on the 19. They are fantastic tires. I have another set (not 10 ply) on a 22 4 Runner (Pro)…my wife drives this and likes the tires but she doesn’t drive that much.
I tried to give this review a fair trial but the annoying sound effects have made me leave before the video was over. The video is supposed to be about tire comparison not about annoying sound effects. You lost my vote because of that. Get rid of the noise and maybe you'll get more subscribers.
Great info, thank you for posting. I have Falken AT3Ws on my 1990 80 series LC and have been very satisfied. No real heavy wheeling, some trails in TN.
Ive used the Wildpeaks on 2 different vehicles in most uk terrain without fault. was only down the them being more wallet friendly at the time. my friend swears by the BF Goodrich's.
I live in Oregon we gets lots of rain and snow. I've ran the Falken wildpeak atw3 on two vehicles and live them. A 02 Sequoia and a 2013 f-150. I tow a camp trailer to. They are amazing tires. I'm going to put a set on my wife's new Ford Explorer. We go on gravel roads alot plus do freeway driving. They do everything we need. I do go on the sand dunes to sand camp. They are amazing in the soft sand.
Almost sounds like this is bias towards ko2. You forgot to mention the sipes also go all the way down on the wild peaks. And that they have a three step. On the tread to clear rocks and mud and snow. I honestly have been researching these tires and also the Toyo open country. And I think I like the wild peaks. So many good comments on them. And a lot of not so good on the bfgs. I am going to pick the wild peaks for my truck.
@joerutkowsky3261, it sounds like you've done your research, and it's great to hear such positive feedback about the Falken Wildpeak AT3w. It's critical to choose a tire that matches your needs, and if the Wildpeaks are receiving such positive reviews, they may indeed be the best option for your truck.
My 2012 TRD sport Tacoma came with 265's ko2's they look great but does not perform well in rain, I'm upgrading in wheel size and tires will be 275's wildpeak at3w, they look awesomer 😎👌🏾👌🏾👌🏾
So far, wild peaks have been the best overall a/t tire and usually the cheapest size for size. About to purchase a 3rd set 265/60r18 for my 4x4 frontier that has 202,000+ miles on it. The first two sets started at 45k miles. So I’ve gotten 155,000 miles out of 2 sets, which would average me at 77.5k miles per set. I usually rotate at oil change every 3500-4500 miles. If it wasn’t for winter and state inspection, I’d rotate this set and run another 5-10k as my fronts got a bit of tread more than my rears (started to peel out whenever I leave a stop, and especially on wet pavement or leaves). But hopefully my local VIP tire has a buy 3 get 1 free deal this November. Otherwise, about $1000 for 4 @ this size. KO2’s in the same size is about $1200 and the only other tire I’d consider purchasing but between reviews and prices, the at3w keeps winning. Someday I’ll choke my wallet into purchasing a set. But if I don’t like them, I’ll be kicking my own ass for 40-50k miles.
I've owned and ran both hard. They are both good tires. I prefer the rolling resistance of the Ko2, but the rain and wet traction really hurts it for me. Currently still have my Wildpeaks on and will be looking at another set of these, K02, the new Grabbers, or even Geolanders to replace. Since I am now running winter tires, I may be going back to Ko2.
Yeah I had the k02s and they were great in deep snow but they were terrible in the rain and on slushy roads or mud. The k02s got caked up with snow and mud and would lose traction. You had to spin them hard to clean them. I got wild peaks last winter and they beat the k02s in everything.
@leadnsteel1428 for real? I just got a new tundra and it came with crap versions of the wild peaks. And I was contemplating buying KO2's but I've been trying to find maybe a better tire! When I had a 04 Nissan frontier 2wd and I put KO2's on it kept me driving all winter long in deep snow! (As long as I didn't come to a stop cause of the open diff)
It's enlightening to get insights from someone who has experienced both tires firsthand. Thank you for sharing your perspective on the value and performance of Falken compared to BF Goodrich KO2 All-Terrain!
@northwoodsdad7506: Your feedback about the BFG's performance in snow is noteworthy. It seems like you're ready to give the Falken Wildpeak AT3w a try. Hoping they stand up to your expectations, especially during the snowy season.
But do the wild peaks come in a 39x13.5x17 like the KO2? Everyone knows if you’re not going 40s we aren’t even having the same conversation. 40s or keep it stock.
What ever you say gate keeper! Lol jk but for real. I just got a new tundra and I'm not ready for the body modification I would need to put 40's on. I've see what people need to do just to get 37's on and it's a lot!
@markbergthold6181, the Falken Wildpeaks have indeed been praised for their all-round performance, especially in snow. It's great that you're having a good experience with them! As for the BFG KO2 vs Falken Wildpeak AT3w debate, it's always an interesting one, as each of these tires brings its own pros and cons to the table.
Currently have K02s and I do not like them at all in the wet weather on a Light Truck. (1998 Tacoma 4x4) But they look good. Getting the Falken 3TWs tomorrow and looking forward to it. Enjoyed the video.
@@comparethetire Update: Had the Falkens for about a month and I'm really liking them. Just got a chance to drive with them in the Rain for the first time and it has been a Night and Day difference between the KO2s and the Falken AT3Ws. That said, I have a lot more confidence in the rain with no spinning at all with a normal to slightly aggressive takeoff speed. Ironically, I had to perform a more aggressive stop today on a Wet Road in which I locked up the brakes. The truck was pretty easy to keep straight, but the actual stopping distance could have been better. However, it was way better than the KO2s, because I would've probably had to run a Red Light. "Two thumbs up" for the light truck with a little bit of weight in the back. Thanks again for the review and will check out the new comparison.
It’s hard to tell because of your accent, but it sounds like you’re saying stone injectors. The correct term is stone ejectors. That said, I swear by the KO2s. The are excellent on road and off and perform great in snowy conditions!
KO2s get smoked by the Falkens all day. I've had both. And a do a ton off-road on rocks, dirt, sand, wet surfaces. Obviously both are not the best for mud, but deep mud is a rarity on the west coast unless you're looking for it.
I just put the Wildpeaks on my Ram 2500, 295 70 R18s. They look good and seem to preform pretty well. The one thing i really noticed is how quiet they are. I was going to go with the ko2s, but i heard about the balancing issues and ive had those tires before so wanted something new. Happy so far.
Glad to hear you're enjoying your Wildpeaks on your Ram 2500! It's great to see they're performing well and offering a quieter ride. The Wildpeak AT3w is known for its balance between off-road capability and on-road manners. It's always refreshing to try something new and find satisfaction in it. If you ever need more insights or comparisons with other tires in the future, feel free to ask!
The KO2's have lost their luster for me the last few years. I am currently running on Kumho at51's and I'm finding them to be very good. And the warranty is one of the best in the industry.
Falken tires tried to kill me. I can't speak for off-road tires, but they're ultra high performance tires for exotics are bunk. You get what you pay for and went back to Nittos.
@baldhairyandfatguy, those Wildpeaks are treating you right, huh? Running them on both a Tacoma TRD Pro and an FJ Cruiser, and they're towing champs too! Plus they are great on wet roads.
