Its finally cooling down as fall approaches quickly on the homestead. We are decorating inside and ramping up wood outside. School of Traditional Skills FREE Summit 2024: schooloftradit...
Fall arrives soon. It is time for thanking Jesus our Lord for Family, pumpkins and a huge harvest. I am grateful for the beautiful seasons. It is getting chilly outside. Changes are good.
UV light can be iffy in it's efficacy. Microbiologist here: Early in my career, we used it in the hoods to disinfect after a day of planting cultures. It was found to stop working b4 the light actually faded enough that that you would know to change the bulb. Labs don't use that technology any more. So, be careful with a dependency on the light. Great video. Thanks for your honesty and inspiration.
First, Happy Birthday, Brian! Secondly, I want to tell you how well you and your family and your dreams uplift my spirits when I start thinking about how far away our kids and grandkids are. Thank you all for filling that void. Crazy how connected I feel to you.
Fifty! Happy Birthday, young man. I was fifty once. That was 44 years ago this October 30. You do the math. It happens once in a lifetime, so enjoy your day. I really appreciate the home decorating, the music, and the inside look at all your plans for the homestead. Keep on keeping on.
@@littlehomesteadbigdreams That's right, and I can't garden now, but I love your videos and watching over the past few years as you grow in stature and purpose. I so enjoy your wonderful family, too. You are a rich man.♥
Hello, your home looks so warm and cozy with the decorations! Fantastic! Your plans sound so exciting, it will be nice to see the progress! Good luck on your driver's test Noah and thanks Emilie and Brian for sharing your plans. Have a wonderful evening.
Thanks for mentioning the non-vegetarian commercial chicken food and the lack of waste. Definitely a win/win with nutritious delicious eggs and manure for the gardens! My chickens ate every garter snake, insect, worm, you name it that dared to come within a mile of the barnyard. Ohhh, it has begun: "Dad, can I have the keys?" 😉 Have fun everyone!!
Happy Birthday Brian. Love this video with all the Fall decorating. Emily you have such a natural beauty and glow today and you look like you are really enjoying decorating!!!
Happy 50th birthday!🎉🎉🎉 I hope you have a very special day. Plans are taking shape nicely. Looking forward to seeing the tropical garden done & the pond/pool is going to be a fabulous addition.
Good girl Bella. And love your shirt Brian. You’re such an inspiration. Tell Emily she’s my go to designer. We are in our 70’s and cherish your inspirational videos. Please keep them coming. We now have an acre and loving growing a garden with your expertise. 👍👍😍
Happy Birthday! You're only 27 years younger than me. I remember being that "young." Enjoy. I'm still gardening (since I was 11 years old) and still watching your videos. Keep up the good work. 👍
Instead of using a wheelbarrow, we bought a wagon that can lift up and dump and it is so much easier than a wheelbarrow. I will never go back to a wheelbarrow. It has big tires so can get over humps and bumps and makes everything easier.
I have learned a lot from your videos which is so helpful but I think the best lesson I have learned is to have patience when designing an area that I want to create! We will be moving to S.D. within the next couple of years (already have the land, 7 1/2 acres) and will build our forever home there and I want the landscaping to be pleasing to our eyes and productive! Thank you for your inspirational ideas and thoughts!
Blast it! It is back into the 90s here in Sylacauga, Alabama. I'm fighting to save my fall garden. My rootcrops, parsnips, carrots, turnips, and beets are covered with shade cloth. My other raised beds are covered with insect netting. I am hoping the white color reflects some of the sunlight. Growing in them are red cabbage, Swiss chard, Dutch Cabbage, broccoli, cauliflower, Pak Choi, Komatsuna, Tatsoi, Yellow Heart Winter Choy, and Nappa Cabbage. Keeping the plants alive until the weather breaks is doable with daily watering, but will it be enough to stop the seedlings from bolting? The weather breaks next Wednesday. All I can do is hope it is enough, or else it is chicken food. It is too close to frost time to replant.
I don't usually give a thumbs up to a video until I've watched a bit of it and when it tickles me, I click the button. But, wham! Seeing Emilie decorate?! Immediate thumbs up! Wheeeeee! Love it!
Happy Birthday !! Beautiful Autumn decorations. Time to get mine out! Going to be hot again for a week or so here in Northern California, probably there as well. Pumpkins, leaves will look refreshing as we sit in the a.c. again. 😂😂
It's so wonderful that its cooling off finally. Couple more days of 90s then 80s and it will be sooo wonderful after all our 100+s Love the decorating - gonna steal a couple of ideas from you and Emily. I've taken your way working on the garden / property - I think it out and see how it works as I'm moving around. I'm working on a list of things I want to do / incorporate as we go. Hubby has been smarter than me and purchased some bigger equipment at auction so we don't have to do so much physical labor. I would suggest a side x side - OMG we got one a couple years after we moved back to this property and it makes such a difference - we have all the tools we need for any job in the bed and can even pull a cart behind it on the hitch. Such a big help!!
What a great all around video Brian and Emilie! Love the fall decorating and seeing all the cute critters. Of course the walk thru of your next planned projects are such fun to see and hear about. Sorry about Mrs Howell. I too have an older chicken that is about to transition. She is 10 - 11 yrs old. The harder part of animal stewardship for sure, but I wouldn’t trade it coz of all the happy years together. Sending courage and patience while young Noah starts driving 😬 but most of all….. HAPPY BIRTHDAY Brian!! Hope you have a wonderful birthday celebration. You deserve it. P.S. I too tend to take “awhile” to get my big projects laid out and completed. I am often thankful that it took a bit longer because that is when some of my best ideas or solutions come in. I really do need to live with the idea or layout for a bit to know when it is ready to be installed or tweaked again. Plus sometimes Mother Nature intervened and I had to make a big change.
Um, sorry. I'm pitching in a bit much today. But, I'm hearing your talk about living with your chalk lines and strings strung around so that you can feel out the project before you start doing the work. And I'm reminded of something my dear old Dad used to say, that applies to so many things. One of his passions was woodworking, and he would say "measure twice, cut once." I love that.
Hi Brian and Emilie. Everything looks great for your fall decorations. Love your cow slippers Emilie😊 Like you said Brian its always work in process when you garden and lay out things. Sorry to hear about Mrs. Howl the chicken. Also remember turning 50 is only a number, everything will still be an adventure is you go along in life.😊
I always love the music you select for your videos, Brian. I was putting up my fall decorations while watching yours go up. I love all your plans for the swimming pond and area around it. I must say, however, the highlight of this video was seeing Emilie’s adorable cow slippers😂❤ Sending love and hugs to you, Emilie and Noah. ❤️🤗❤️
I wish you hadn't said you'll be fifty. I have been putting your energy and industry down to your being a thirty-something. Now I feel even older than my 67 years... (Just kidding. I love watching the energy you put into everything. It's very refreshing to this senior). :-) Also, happy birthday!
Fall decorations in the house look beautiful. It’s great you and Emily do it together. You are such a visionary. I can’t wait to see every thing when they are all done. Best of luck to Noah on his driver test. I have no doubt he will pass it with no problems. Happy 50th birthday! 🎂🥳🌹🌼🌻5️⃣0️⃣🎉
R.I.P Mrs. Howell. I'm sure she lived a good and full life with you. And she even got to live in a groovy A-frame house at your last place, and a magnificent English Cottage at you current place. That's more than most chickens can hope for. She did a good job and she's resting peacefully now. I feel that's a better life than she would have had than pretty much anywhere else. I hope you feel good about that. But I'm sure it's hard when any animal on the homestead passes.
The decorations look really beautiful!!!.....& that coming from someone with Seasonal Affective Disorder who considers "fall" to be another "4-letter word." 😉😊
Let me start with Happy Birthday 🎉to ya! How does it feel to be half a century old?😂. Well it doesn’t matter, you wear it well😊. I’ve been watching your channel now for almost five years now and have learned so much want to thank you for all your wisdom and knowledge. You have help me change me and my family’s life forever! Again thank you for all you do, keep bringing us great content. May God continue to bless you and your family!
Great job decorating, Emily! Happy Birthday, Brian!! 🎁🎉🥂🎂🥳 Good luck to Noah on his driver's test! Sorry to hear about your chicken. The homestead is looking great. You've made so much progress since you've been there.
Happy 50th🎂 It's all up hill from here, flattens off a bit in the middle and then 60.😳 Been there, done that and and got not one but three T Shirts proclaiming my vintage status. Got to wonder about my friends, they forget they're catching up on me. A tip for the pond in the future. You may or may not have heard of the water cleaning quality's of Barley Straw. About twenty years back a farmer lost a bale off his load into his rather grotty green pond. The bale had bounced and landed in the middle of the pond, so he left it there. A few weeks later the water had cleared. It has been discovered the barley straw when in the water for a time releases an enzyme which kills off algae and the likes of blanket weed. But it has to be Barley Straw, other straw will make matters worse. I used it in my pond and used to stuff it into an old pair of my wife's nylon socks. Its important to remove her first, after around a fortnight it starts to take effect. Lovely clear water and healthy fish. I switched off my UV filter and used the mechanical filter with the straw. Since you get more sunlight which promotes weed the UV filter is probably a good thing. In Ireland we get sun for a few hours some days and have to pass it on to the next county. And they send us some rain and cloud, you get the picture. I like a pond and moving water and am considering an aquarium type for the back of the patio. Like you I have gone through plans and changes in my head. Have a great Birthday.
Very nice decorating.looks really nice. Love your music you use. That is going to be truly awesome with the pond and stuff. You are truly an artist with your work
Happy Birthday to you! There is life after 50! Good luck to Noah! Let him know that he has to turn his body to look out the back when he's backing up, physically look over his shoulder when changing lanes, and stop behind the white line which is further back in the left lane! These are things the tester will mark him down on. Regarding the pond, think carefully about when you want to dig (in cooler weather) compared to when you'll be starting up the garden again, Daisy giving birth, etc. Timing! Also consider some Japanese iris and dwarf papyrus grass for the pond area. Of course, toss these ideas in the trash if you don't like them! Sorry about your hen. It's sad even though it's part of life.
looks good Emily! i hope Daisy is pregnant december is such a long way away lol! Happy early Birthday! u got this Noah settle ur nerves before u take the test be confident walking in good luck!!!❤❤❤
Going to pop your balloon on the swim pond. I've had 4 ponds over a span of 30yrs +2 pools. The swim ponds require more maintenance than a pool. If you've ever cleaned a pond, which you have to do at least once a year, you will never put your face under water intentionally, If you do decide to get in. Ponds are a nice water 'FEATURE' and that's it. You'll need shade for it to keep water cool enough to enjoy the water. But if you've always wanted a water feature you might just need to get it out of your system and find out the hard, EXPENSIVE way. Beware.
We built a beautiful pond in our backyard a few years back, we absolutely loved it until the tree frogs showed up & took over. They made so much noise all night long that we ended up filling it in w rock garden instead. Hopefully yours will prove 100% satisfying ❤
@@SpecialK711 The cleaning and dealing with the muck and fish poop/stench uh, god! I have water container gardens now with fish and water lilies, cat tails, water hyacinth. Much smaller scale, still have to deal with cleaning and fish poop, but the ponds were something I dreaded taking care of at the end of summer.
