Fall leaf cleanup using a lawn sweeper

Here’s a few quick steps to have success picking up leaves in the fall with a lawn sweeper. I have a bunch of mature trees that drop HUGE amounts of leaves every fall and the sweeper is the best tool I have found for picking them up the fastest!

Thanks for this video...!! Can I hook it up to the back of a golf cart that has a hookup on it already? I can't see how it's hooked up in the video. Thanks again..

That’s a huge oversight on my part, thanks for mentioning it. In this video, during the lawn sweeper part, when I first start talking about the sweeper there’s a shot that shows what the hookup is like. @@suburbanacreage , thanks for getting back to me. After searching on Google and stores, they don't assemble them and it seems like they're a million parts to put one together. I think I'll find someone or a landscaping company who has the equipment already to tackle this job. But, your video helped me make that decision 👍

@@louferraro6301 they do take up a ton of space and yes you can take the hopper off and it’s a bit more compact but it’s a pain to do. I have woods behind my garage where I keep all my lawn equipment but I also understand not everybody has that option or people are classier than me and don’t want a bunch of junk behind their house, haha. I watched this video as well as your vid on the shoot and hopper. I have 2 acres of very heavily tree’d property with live oaks which drop not just leaves but also acorns, twigs and small branches. I also have a lot of bare dirt due to the heavy trees. Which would you use? a sweeper or a shoot and hopper? Thanks!

You’d be surprised. My yard, while it looks good in video, has lots of ruts and low spots that I’m working to level out. The sweeper actually does a pretty nice job all around.

Dude, this thing picks up LARGE sticks. I’m always impressed at the size of lumber this thing grabs. It’s a fun game to square up a stick, run it over, then look back over my shoulder and see if it gets thrown up into the hopper. You won’t be disappointed with stick capability, 10 outta 10.

how does it handle grass clippings after mowing? i am assuming that no bagger was used while mowing. grass clippings, leaves and other debris like acorns can be turned into mulch, animal bedding and/or animal feed.

Grass clippings are hard because they are generally small enough to fall down into the grass blades and the sweeper is set to only brush into the top 1/2” of the grass. If the clippings are heavy and sitting on top, it’ll definitely sweep them up. But smaller clippings from frequent mowing might be tough to get them all.

Hi, have you had any issues with the sweeper not going over the leaves and pushing them? Mine is super low to the ground up front where the metal plate is and is hooked to a john deere x350

Yeah that can happen if the leaves are too thick. If I’m lazy and I let it get bad like that, I raise up my sweeper to the highest level to try to get over the top of them rather than pushing them. After a lap with it up as high as it can go, then I start bringing it down for my clean up passes.

Can you mulch at the same time using the sweeper

You absolutely can but in my experience diced up leaves are harder to pick up than whole ones. I recommend you go after the leaves whole first as it will give you a cleaner sweep.
