I felt bad for Patrick during all the "young and menace"'s during the the more electronic part, he looked like he was having a hard time trying to do the repeative parts. His voice seemed to start to crack, and as a vocalist I understand that that song is hard to sing. Anyways, Pat sounded really good other wise. I enjoyed it, but still the song is a pain in the butt to sing.
He did it completely without the autotune voice which is totally impressive and it's so rare to see musicians do that when performing live so you just gotta love them 🙌🏼
I couldn't have said it better myself. That song would be hard to sing without the autotune voice, but Patrick did the best and while his voice was cracking here and there. He still sounded great for the most part. I enjoyed the song
I definitely agree. You can definitely tell they've never performed this song before, so I'd be willing to bet they treated this as a trial run. They'll figure out what to do by the time they start the tour.
Lu from what i've heard/read, the way the song was composed they should easily be able to do that. but something tells me it wasn't really their choice for this show at least
Lu totally agree. The chorus sounded so rough with the high pitched voice in the back. For the small parts without it, Patrick sounded just fine. The rest of the song was great though.
What a lot of people don’t realize is that Patrick reached an Eb5 in his mix at 3:08 That is absolutely unheard of even in a studio. He did an insane job with the vocals. Don’t care what anyone says.
he hits an E5 at the end of This Ain't a scene this is a goddamn arms race and there are song where goes even higher in the studio version of this song he hits a F#5 in the bridge "i'm just here for the for the..." he's so amazing 😍
When I heard this song for the first time I thought about how are they going to do the chorus part on a live situation. I guess they didn't think this part through as well. Still love them though :)
Kfir Ochaion I don't think it was that they didn't think it through. I think it was more so that they don't use audio tracks the way they should. Their thinking was in the wrong spot and the live approach was off because of it. They did great though!
Kfir Ochaion it’s more pretty during there tour show when Patrick plays it on the piano an it’s just him and the piano and they don’t do the weird thing for the chorus I love it ( this video was really awkward )
Adayla Hudson-Price he still wears it occasionally. He wore it during the sunfest show (aka Andy's birthday show) but said sometimes it's hard to travel with it.
He does! Such a fantastic voice, can really sing some really high notes that other singers can't do, just a shame that the chorus doesn't coincide with his brilliant voice.
SomehowStillSane Yes definitely! First time, don't blame them for being a bit out of rhythm, thats okay! They will get the hang of it and nail it like all their other songs
I feel so bad for Patrick, you can hear he's straining his voice during the chorus, it's a hard song to perform live so he's done pretty well but you can tell it's definitely hurting his voice
Everyone who is concerned about Patrick's voice: Pete Wentz was tweeted and was sent these comments because people were concerned about Patrick's voice. According to Pete, this doesn't hurt Patrick or his voice at all. If you want, you can look at Pete's exact tweet, but I just wanted to let everyone know here that this issue has been discussed. :)
BlueFire29 TV. Good. I loved the chorus like this, but I was really worried about Patrick. But I trust that he knows what he's capable of, and if he thinks he can keep singing it this way, then by all means, let him.
BlueFire29 TV They've always been careful about his voice, so I figured as much :D Thanks for the clarification. Would be a shame if he did ruin his voice, as it is so unique!
I dont know why every is like "when will they learn you cant sing a dubstep chorus" I think Patrick killed it! I like this way better than the normal version honestly.
Me too, but I'm just concerned about Patrick straining his voice like that. It sounded amazing, but if he keeps doing that, he could permanently damage his voice.
i don't want to seem like a fangirl who loves everything FOB does no matter what but I actually enjoyed the performance a lot and I think Patrick did a great job!
To be honest I thought they were gonna let the audio just do the chorus. I'm sure any other band would've took the easy way out, but I'm so glad that they put in the work to actually make it work. Now I heard Patrick sounded a little strained, but he will get better with more practice. I commend all their hard work for this. Love you guys! 💜
It was great on the verses but with the chorus Patrick needs to give himself a break, put those voices on the backing track and just go mental with the guitars and the drums. He's gonna wear out his voice if he keeps doing that. But great job for first performance!
I thought that was going to be the way they would play it live, but I actually liked that Patrick sang on the chorus with that distortion. Who knows, maybe they'll change it up. I liked it quite a bit like this because Pat is so into it, and a recording will never emule his passion while singing live. I'm just sad that they are getting quite the backlash for this track, recorded and live.
+Crybaby! at the Disco thanks and thats correct... i love yours too i'm actually a crybaby too and i want to incorporate it into my user name but i don't klnow how i would do that without wrecking the entire structure
For the circumstances of the song and the incredibly difficult electronic influences I think they actually pulled this off SUPER well. Sure, Pat was struggling a bit but that just goes to show his vocal power that he could make a techno-rock song like this work. I'm super proud of them, they have come so far as a band and developed their sound so much.
This song is so hard to play live. I'm concerned for Patrick's voice. He did his utter best, and nailed it, but it looked like he was having such a hard time during the chorus. Hope this doesn't affect his voice in the long run. Also, loved it whenever he deepened his voice.
when i watched this for the first time my cousin and me were in the back of our cottage and we heard joe doing his backing vocals and we were like "BOY WhAT" And started screaming and slapping our hand on or knees LIKE HOLY COW JOE U GO MAN
Guys Patrick has an amazing soul voice and he wouldn't do anything to affect it I'm sure he's had a really long career with harder songs then this vocally! I'm not trying to be rude as us fans care about our favorite bands but these guys are professionals and know how to work the system! I personally love this song so very much live and recorded it's so good I do my work outs to it since I'm a dancer! But yeah guys I truly thing that his beautiful soul voice will survive this song!
Ginna Crouse I bet Bruce Lee thought the same thing while intensely working and training everyday, and look where that got him; an early death from overworking and exhaustion. We are just worried about Patrick straining his voice so much that it damages his vocal cords like Adele. We are also worried about him if he is working hours and hours intensely trying to perfect his voice.
This song is really difficult to perform to be honest, you can hear the strain on Patrick's voice, which is bad for his vocal health. Also the chorus sounds so weird when Patrick sings over the high pitched vocals. But it's still a good performance, I still enjoyed it!
Madeleine Sky he is not singing over the high pitched voice, the high pitched voice is generated automatically via vocal effect over his voice, if he doesn't sing the high pitched voice wouldn't be there. I asume he does it that way in order to make the song more pure since they are generating all the sounds themselves. Nevertheless I personally wouldn't mind if they put the voices on the chorus in a backing track so that he doesn't hurt his voice...
i was so excited to hear this live, and i was not disappointed but hopefully they find a better way to do the chorus so patrick doesn't strain his voice i really love it tho
tbh i think they need to improve on the chorus. they had to figure how to play it live but they did it! patrick's voice was amazing and he SO into it. to me, this song sounds heavy live, which is great. (i love it). but this was, overall, a good performance! i'm proud of you boys.
Makenna Phelan they could either just leave the high pitched part where they can just do their thing (or headbang) or let patrick sing the chorus (it will be difficult though) i hope there will be improvements on the performance soon
hoodeddmoo Yeah I agree it would be tough to sing all of that. I think Patrick shouldn't sing over the high pitched part and do what they did in the video where he sang in the chorus but not exactly over the high pitched part
even if the band was "off track" or "lost rhythm", cut em some slack. first time performing this! they know that they still need to rehearse, but they got a chance to perform it for the first time!
They did a piano version during the Mania tour and I will not rest until they release that officially because it was the most incredible thing I've ever heard
I know some of the most hardcore Fall Out Boy fans - saw Fall Out Boy when they were playing in small 10-15 people venues and getting booed - and even they're not buying this crap. It's one thing to be a dedicated fan, but it's another to be a sheep and lick every shit they put out. Be a real fan, hold your band/music to the standard you expect from them. This isn't one of them.
I think if they used a vocal synthesizer that kicked off with a pedal instead of playing a pre-recorded track it might be a bit easier. As it is that was much better than I was expecting.
I personally think patrick did awesome for such a hard song! Not everyone will like it and that's fine, but I'm so proud of this fandom being so supportive of them regardless
I think they could maybe modify the chorus to make it easier for Patrick to sing. They did an amazing job though, the chorus would be an absolute b*tch to sing live. 💜💜
If anyone ever tells me that patrick stump can't sing, i'm going to punch them. He pulled off that dubstep chorus ridiculously well, instead of just putting a vocal backing track, he sang it too, which is really freaking difficult.
A lot of the comments are saying Patrick looks sad, but I think he's just shy. Joe looks looks like a pretty happy dude, Andy was smiling at Jimmy and Pete is just Pete :) I feel like they would be awkward just randomly smiling at the end if Jimmy is talking to the camera/audience. In other interviews they were talking about how excited they were to try out the new sound and this was the tv debut so there obviously not tired of it.
Pat looked like he was about to die of dissapointment in himself at the end, but he didn't need to, for their first performance of this song he did really well
PATRICK LOOKED REALLY SAD LIKE HE MESSED UP REALLY BAD NO PATRICK BEAN YOU DID GOOD THERE THERE YOU DID AMAZING YOU KILLED IT I WAS WRONG ABOUT THIS SONG AT FIRST THEN I LOVED IT NOW I LOVE IT EVEN MORE GOOD JOB GUYS LOVE YOU
Aw I feel so bad they seem really nervous :/ I hope people hating on the song didn't discourage them, there are still loads of fans who love the song and this was a good performance ❤
This song is still new to them. The band is not used to this kind of music but you can see that there 're trying to improve. I'm 100% sure they'll work it out and make the song sound perfect even in the live shows. Until then I'm gonna enjoy the studio version. Keep it up boys, you've already achieved so much and I know you can do so much more.
Everyone in the comments sounds like a parent trying to tell their kid that it's okay that the glitter is all over the place because at least the kid made something and it's great! And you don't wanna crush the kids spirit so you just clean up the glitter when they're not looking and hang the picture from the fridge showing the kid how happy you are.
FOB accomplished the impossible: Performing an EDM song live with actual instruments. This is incredibly difficult and the amount of technical ability and talent on this stage is under appreciated. Kings!
Petes face and the end like "oh shit that didnt go to well" its a rough song to preform i think they need pull a miss jackson and have everyone in the band yell the chorus so its not so hard on patrick and bring the lights down and strobe light the shit out of the audience.
Just impossible to perform WELL live. Those chorus parts sound absolutely awful. And I've been a fan since TTTYG. They need to find a way to alter the chorus live. Even they seemed really bummed by how this performance went.
People like to hate on Patrick for struggling to sing this.... but they forget 90% of male singers don't have Patrick's vocal talent and wouldn't even be able to sing any of it
No one can complain about this, cause the vocals on this that he pulled off are insane. They are a rare band where they are good live and on record, so you try pulling the all nighters they did to get where they are. This band will always have hardcore fans.
just like the rest of us, Pete looks proud of Patrick during the chorus like, every now and then, he'd send him a small smile and that's nice. the guys all played passionately, as usual, and that was wonderful. Andy plays so hard he looks exhilarated, Joe plays next to Patrick in what looks (to me) in a reassuring way in the end, and then Pete's smiles? I hope They all feel good about this performance. my boys did well and the song is incredible. Props to them :)
I don't want hear anyone trashing this...especially the chorus! What they did was bold and unique and Patricks vocals were brilliant, I mean he literally matches the speed and pitch of the EDM it's quite incredible
