"I ought to cancel your spring fling, but I'm not gonna do that because we've already paid the DJ" "I will keep you here until 4" The principal is such a mood I swear
I LOVE that the subject of the actors being Vietnamese was brought up. Their characters are meant to be “Korean” even though it’s a blend of Viet-Korean surnames. But clearly, they spoke Vietnamese, and that confused me so much when I was younger cause I could understand them (mostly). Regarding the Viet accent that was spoken about, it’s definitely a “weird” accent we have when we speak Vietnamese. Growing up in (whether immigrated or born) the US, so we have an American accent. But when we speak Vietnamese, which is a tonal language, the American accent blends with the tonal Vietnamese pronunciation (depending on which dialect but most Viet Americans are southern Vietnamese), so it’s an in between kind of accent. Viet Americans also have filler words or sounds. I don’t know how to point them out, but we say extra words or sounds that a person from Vietnam wouldn’t say. It’s similar to how American English would say “-ish” or “um.”
A huge part of why I think Regina makes 'friends' with Cady is because she sees that, despite the unremarkable fashion sense, she's a pretty girl. Even the childish sexual innuendos which Jason throws at Cady about 'buttering her muffin' and his dejected look when she says she wouldn't like to sleep with him, probably signal to Regina that this girl has the potential to be desired by the guys at the school (Jason later calls Cady hot, considering her to be perhaps even hotter than Regina). Realising she's new, Regina wants to size her up and get a grasp on this 'new meat' as Damien eloquently puts it, lol. She soon deciphers that Cady is quite naive to the social structure of an American High school, and is therefore easier to manipulate and rule over. In her eyes, it's better to keep her enemies closer, and that's what she sees Cady as, unless she gets a grip on her before anyone else does: an enemy in terms of popularity and social power. This is particularly obvious when she realises Aaron Samuels likes Cady; she doesn't even kiss him because she's jealous and still in love with him. She does it simply to stake her claim over him and not be seen as second best to Cady, or forgettable enough for him to move on to someone else. Everything she does is an ego driven power trip.
My one suggested correction is she wants to own Cady. Make her a possession, like the other "hot" girls, so she can control and be sought after by proxy.
Yeah if she's worried about Cady being competition, she can just add her to her entourage, and now she can manipulate or control who Cady gets to date.
I really appreciated hearing her talk about the Vietnamese accents. That was cool. Also: I *think* it would be Vietnamese American, just like you’d say African American and so on.
So glad you enjoyed that part of the discussion! I almost cut it out of the RU-vid edit cause I wasn’t sure if people would be as interested about that aspect as I was
@@nickreacts6394 So first "irregardless" and then the discussion about what I would call American Vietnamese (the language/dialect/accent; like how we say American English or American Spanish etc.) ... language interested much? Because that'd be another thing we'd have in common.
Americans are so ridiculous with that..in the UK we don't have afr!can-british etc ..if ur born in the uk your British. period.. n why does it have to be anyone non white, shodnt white Americans call themselves British-americans then considering thats their most recent heritage?...ugh this reminds me how much I h8 america hahaha
"She doesn't even go here!" Everyone likes to point out how he himself shouldn't be there since it's an girl-only meeting. I like to point out how he was just wearing a hoodie and sunglasses inside the gymnasium for no reason 😂
well, the point of that line is that it's a reference to Never Been Kissed. The girl even looks somewhat similar to the young Josie aka Drew Barrymore. A young woman undercover as a highschool student.
I mean I think the reason he’s wearing the hoodie and sunglasses inside is to blend in/not be noticed as being a boy so he wouldn’t get kicked out of the assembly if someone realized who he was and that he shouldn’t be there. Lol 😂😂
Damien is literally a Burn Book victim. The only guy to be featured, i believe. Cady recycled Janice's "too gay to function" roast in the book when infiltrating the Plastics.
There was subtle symbolism using wardrobe in this movie. During the beginning of the movie, Regina is wearing an "R" necklace and hoop earrings (as Gretchen said it was Regina's thing). As Cady transitions into queen bee, she starts wearing hoop earrings and a "C" necklace. When Gretchen breaks free of Regina at the end of the movie, she is wearing her hoop earrings.
Yeah there’s so many great performances/ characters I think she sometimes gets unfairly overlooked… not to mention huge props for writing so many iconic lines in her script!
Cool couple reaction, Nick and Nguyen! Cool to get a Vietnamese perspective on the Vietnamese used in the film. Hopefully, we will see Nguyen in the future! Too bad you guys didn't wear pink: it's Wednesday. Now you will have to sit with the art freaks.
Legitimately one of the all time funniest and most quotable films ever made. It's just completely ridiculous while also being extremely well written, very well cast, and amazingly well acted.
I love the 1 pay off joke that most people miss. So the whole deal is that regina George said Janis was a lesbian. In the end of the movie though Janis tells Kevin G., she's Lebanese. 😂 its a subtle mistake a kid could make.
This movie has one of my all time favorite shots in it. The shot of Regina standing at the top of the stairs and then panning out as she watches the chaos she created unfold is beautiful.
I'm a Vietnamese living in Vietnam, and the two Vietnamese girls spoke 2 different accents, one girl spoke Northern accent and the other spoke Southern accent. But I can only tell the Southern accent girl wasnt born in Vietnam. The girl with the Northern accent might be a student studied aboard, she still had that very distinct vibe I get from people from the North and not people born and raised in the US.
This movie is so ridiculously perfect. It's like everything wrong with it because of how true a lot of it is, makes it top-tier. You can't not love this movie or see your younger self in some way. They could never do this again and they should not try. I recommend from Netflix He's All That and Tall Girl
Awesome the most classic chick flick ever ❤️❤️❤️Mean girls will always be such a fun movie because it’s funny and I love the story also such an awesome cast as well and over all really enjoyable. I’m happy Cady learned a lot throughout the movie and then became a better person at the end 😊 can’t believe this your first time watching but I thank you for the reaction and hopefully you guys enjoyed it 😊😁😉
Watching his videos for so long and seeing the kind of person he is. It’s no surprise to me. He’s one of the best people I watch. contentand just people in general. ❤❤❤
I'm so glad you're watching this! Especially with your girlfriend (whose name is escaping me right now, I apologize for that.) Y'all are so sweet together
2:27 Being an actual girl from a country in Africa (South Africa), it's always so funny how in the US everyone seems to say that. It's never the country, always the continent 😂. I get asked stuff like " How's the weather in Africa?" Or "do you know my cousin in Uganda?" 🫣😅
I basically saw on my notifications that Nick did a movie reaction on Mean Girls I'm like, let's go🔥🔥🔥 Because Mean Girls is of course The best high school film in my eyes And that, you learn so much About those students That everyone is special and unique And you shouldn't mistreat the next person Or belittle anyone And that's basically what Kady realised She was known as a girl Who's shy But smart and intelligent But then, she obviously changed Not just because of the type of friends she was surrounded with But because, she wasn't true to herself And she learned a valuable lesson in the end To stick to your principles And knowing that every person is beautiful and unique and smart And that you shouldn't be mean or disrespectful towards others.
After I first watched this movie (way back when I was still in middle school) I too made a map of where people sit at lunch time which most people thought was really cool.
Idk if the hot chick or mean girls was first for Rachel McAdams but you guys should react to the Hot chick. It’s one of my all time favorites to go back and rewatch 🤣🙌🏼
Tina Fey *just* dropped the trailer for a Mean Girls reboot today. I both squealed and was offended. I have a lot of feelings, lol. The breasts like rocks is with breast augmentation, a condition called "capsular contracture" can happen- it's basically a huge buildup of scar tissue that does indeed make your breasts very hard and not lay right. Ephedrine- speed/diet drug, and fen-phen (fenfluramine/phentermine) as a diet drug in the 90s. Speed. Made illegal in 1997 in the states. There was a store in the 90s called 5-7-9, they didn't carry anything larger than juniors 9 (roughly a size 2/4 in womens).
I came home from school daily in 6th-7th grade when this came out and rented it WITHOUT FAIL on pay-per-view on directv back in the day…until they eventually took it off. Honestly, should’ve known then I had a touch of the tism 😅
Lol, you say everyone's name but Karen's; one of the best loveable characters ever 🤪 Let's make the name okay to say again for our amazing plastic weather girl 🤗
Lorne Michael’s is the creator and in charge of SNL (Saturday Night Live) which is why he produced this as Tina Fey was one of the big stars and her best friend Amy Pohler is Regina’s mom It’s funny how actually Janice is just as much of a Mean Girl but tries to justify it by saying she’s doing against an evil dictator of Regina and used Cady just as much for her own revenge One of the funniest things is that Gretchen is played by Lacey Chalbert who was the first voice of Meg Griffin (S1-2) of Family guy when Meg was more like a normal teen girl rather than the punching bag she became and has been mentioned multiple times since such as in Back to the Pilot when Stewie hears her he says “She sounds like someone who’s going to give up a big opportunity” and in Winter Games Meg says she’s been a practicing as a biathlete since she’s was Lacey Chalbert
@@nickreacts6394 Lovely, great choice, can't wait! SO happy you did Mean Girls too! Try Legally Blonde, The Devil Wears Prada, Confessions of a Shopaholic, Barbie (2023).
