Getting sidetracked is exactly what happens in the game the entire time.

Their is another military group who are the original organization of what left of the us military and they are called the enclave

Yes the Games are all about Factions and how factions work with or (more commonly) against each other. The games also either make you sympathize with a faction because of their ideals or because the characters you meet are nice, but then you find out the murky side of the faction and suddenly they are not all sunshine and rainbows anymore. Same with other factions that you are introduced to as villains only to later see that maybe they have a point. They will try to play out the "Morally Grey" side to each faction as all have something positive and all have something negative. Say the Brotherhood. They have these suits of Power armor, they have the weapons and they have the infrastructure to patrol and keep peace, but they are also extremely stricty, alfa-frat-bro, severely religious tones. In Ep1 the Elder in the robes told Maximus that Force is a tool used to get what the Brotherhood wants. Compare that to how the (quite naive) guys in the Vault want to try to rehabilitate the Raiders by teaching them Kant and calculus.. One of those two "factions" has tech and knowledge that could better the world but will quickly get wiped out by Raiders and other similar violent groups the other will be able to put up a fight against the Raiders but when they are dominating the area will they be benevolent rulers or will they just impose their will? We saw how Knight Titus treated Maximus. How would Knight Titus treat a regular civilian or commoner? So don't assume that one faction is The Good Guys and one is The Bad Guys. Some can be more murky than others but the point in the games is to have to choose what you deem to be the lesser of multiple evils.
