A basic guide to mod load order for Fallout 4 console mods on Xbox one and Ps4.
I'm not an expert at this its just how I think they work but of course someone will probably tell me everything I have said is wrong =)

For someone with a smaller channel, you explain things so much better than those with bigger channels covering the same topic. Thanks bunch dude. I came in blind, searched for all the mods I wanted until I got to 1.92 GB. Understood that you can't use two of the same mods. But was stumped with load order and didn't want to mess up my console. Ty

Wait consoles can only have a total of all modes of that amount? I that it was that for each one. Man I have 25 GB and just under 500 mods. I kinda got a little addicted if you couldn't tell lol

Luke Higdon Nope. 2G max for all mods combined. Sucks but in all honesty. FO4 is boring even with mods for me.

Guys I really need help with the Load Order on Xbox One, I get the general concept but I just can't wrap my head around it. As a huge fan of Fallout that plays it all day and everyday I would EXTREMELY appreciate if you could take a look at my Load Order and tell me improvements that can be made. My load order is as follows: 1. Unofficial Game Patch 2. True Storms 3. Enhanced Game Play (EGP) 4. Plenty 'o' Exploration 5. Crowded Commonwealth 6. Realistic Sound 7. Gore Overhaul 3.0 8. Atomic Radio 9. Visible Companion Affinity 10. Dogmeat's Backpack 11. Dogmeat Bark Replacer - F CK says the Dog 12. BIFF - Bobblehead Improvements 13. Renner's Destructible Lights 14. The Wild Wasteland 15. Full Dialogue 16. Everyone's Best Friend (Dogmeat and companion at same time) 17. WET - Water Replacement Texture 18. Darker Nights 19. Grenade Expansion Pack 20. anyone else having to spend 5 hours re downloading the game,patches and all dlcs because you keep getting a notification in the in game menu after you download mods, to free up 0 kb storage space note i kept all mods disabled ,further more ive not been able to load a game, start a new game or load mods to fix the issue resulting in having to delete the whole thing and reinstall

i managed to sort it, it turned out i needed to organise my load order before exiting the mod page,previously i kept them all deactivated and didnt attempt to load a save but left them unorganised and exited the mod page then turned off computer, was coming back to sort later, deactivated or not they still effected the game boot, i couldnt understand why this was happening because they where deactivated , i organised load order then exited the page and it works

I have similar problem. I put unofficial patch at the top. when I click on another snap n build puts itself at the top. no matter what.

im confused as I've read the heavy mods like modern arms and green growth mods are to go in bottom, shouldn't they load first?

My game recently started fucking up, every time I try to load a save or start a new one, at the very end of the loadscreen my game suddenly freezes then crashes. I hard reset my console and even uninstalled and re downloaded the game, it worked when I loaded up with no mods at all, so I added fewer mods in and now it's happening again. I'm guessing it could be a mod... However right before this started happening my game had been playing just fine, and I'm not a total noob to this.. I've modded on PC several times in the past. I'm at a loss here, I feel like I can fix it, just don't know how to. Nothing seems to help.

I would need more info what mods you have and what order you can export them. This usually means you have a mod that is red or yellow and checked, which means it depends on another mod which is not there, is in the wrong order, on an extreme level. Something , since you have few mods is bad or in conflict with one another. I just realized you are on Xbox but here is a general rule of thumb. I know this may seem vague but given how many mods there are and I have about 500 of them I can't list them all just a diagram. If you don't understand what some things are just ask. FALLOUT 4 MODDING CATEGORIES SHARED RESOURCES SETTLEMENT BUILDING MODS (ESM FILES) BUG FIXES SETTLEMENT BUILDING MODS (ESP FILES) SETTLEMENT BUILDING PATCHES SCRAPPING MODS GAMEPLAY TWEAKS FOLLOWER TWEAKS AESTHETIC TWEAKS SETTLEMENT TWEAKS ITEM SORTING BODY REPLACER WEAPONS ARMOR - CLOTHING CRAFTING WEAPON MODDING ARMOR - CLOTHING MODDING

did you find a resolution to your problem, im having the same problem, i get the you need to delete 0 kb to free up storage , cant load a game or start a new one and mod menu freezes the game. have to reinstall the whole game and dlcs tedious as fuck

I just want to know which one is top and bottom.... Is the it opposite? is the bottom at the top where your first downloaded mods are, or is the bottom where your more recent mods are? that's my confusion.

Me too. I'm not sure which is top and which is bottom. I was led to believe the bottom as you see it on the screen was the first loaders. Every big mod Ive seen on a load out list the big mods were at the bottom. So green mods load in first as they are in the external environment which loads first?

I have Unlock Settlement Items mod, and it changes the build menu, so my OCD dectorator mod does not work. I tried to change the load order but USI forces itself on top. Help

1. Master Files
These automatically place themsleves at the top of you LO, sort them in the same order as everything else. Unofficial Fallout 4 Patch [UFO4P] [XB1] is almost always at the very top. Armor and Weapon Keywords Community Resource (AWKCR) 3.02 (Valdacil), Sim Settlements 2, True Storms: Wasteland, Natural and Atmospheric Commonwealth (NAC), etc. 1.1 Fast Starts and Frameworks
SKK's Fast Starts will need to be run as high as possible when using them. This category is reserved for those mods. Plugins/patches for masters that are not affected by the following categories also will go here, such as the DLC patches for NAC. These are scripted MODs so do not remove in the middle of a playthrough. INVASIVE WORLD EDITS 2. Faction and AI Overhauls
Enemy level lists, faction level lists, AI packages. May have Script injected level lists; do not disable in the mid-playthrough 3. New World-Spaces/Landmasses
Quests that add new world space/land mass or Quests that need their scripting to fire before the rest of the load order. New Creation Club VR settlements or DLC-sized works. Vanilla world edits go near the bottom due to Fallout 4's Optimization System. 4. New Factions
NEW factions and enemy lists or need to overwrite the faction lists above. Those that have world edits, will go with mods that add world edits. 5. Bug Fixes, Unofficial Patches or Vanilla Quests Modifications
Most bug fixes are now contained in the Unofficial Fallout 4 Patch. This section could contain patches to vanilla quests that have no effect and are not affected by any mods below. Patches to the Creation Club creations that have no effect on the categories below may be placed here. Some examples are: Dialogue MODs like Icebreaker MODs, Settler And Companion Dialogue Overhaul WORKSHOP (Settlement Objects) 6. Settlement Building Mods
Mods that add to your menu with vanilla keywords - no overhauls, not including sorting mods. Many PS4-only building mods fall in this category; Vanilla Extensions; Manufacturing Extended. The menus are considered 'hard edits' to the workshop menu form lists. 6a. Settlement Building Mods (Powered Objects) 6b. Settlement Building Mods (Workshop Assignable) 6c. Settlement Building Mods (Decorations) 6d. Settlement Building Mods (Furniture) 7. Settlement Building Mods Scripts
Mods that add to your menu via Script Injection (Holotape or Chem required); not including sorting mods. If it has to be uninstalled, it goes here. 8. Settlement Building Mods Overhauls
Mods that alter the items in the menu. The main workshop reorganizer MODs go here, like Workshop Rearranged or USO. GAME-PLAY 9. Game-Play Changes and Tweaks
These include: Perks, Settings, Movement, Animations (not gun animations though), Leveling, Damage, etc. Some examples are: Realistic Ragdoll Force, BS Defense, etc. COMPANIONS 10. New Companion Mods
New companions that are added to the vanilla system or uses a separate system.Some examples are: Mary Jane, Heather Casdin, Ellen, The Cartographer, WRVR - New Companion, 06 Synth Follower, etc. 11. NPC and Companion Changes
NPC overhauls such as those that change faces or race of companions/NPCs or hard edit names of settlers, and companion behavior. Some examples are: Everyone’s Best Friend, Dogs Not Brahmin, More Companion Slots, Simple Settlers, if it has the word "Companion" in the name, it probably goes here. AUDIO and VISUAL 12. Radio and Audio Mods
Self-explanatory; exception: weapon sounds and footstep sounds - those are considered weapon and armor modifications 13. Visual, Texture, Atmospheric Improvements
Only choose one of each. Do not stack weather or lighting mods. Some examples are Vivid or other environmental texture replacers. Darker Nights, Visible Galaxy 4k, Insignificant Object Remover, and green MODS like Verdant Wasteland. 14. Lighting Water Changes
Water mods, lighting. Some examples are MODs that Disable God Rays or Lens flare, Shadow Resolution 2048 > 512, Smoother Sun Shadow, and WET or Clean Water of the Commonwealth. WORKSHOP BENCH/SORTING/ITEMS 15. Vanilla Settlement Changes and Tweaks
Mods that implement changes to the workshop parent script or the workshop bench. Some examplse are ShelteredBeds, Unrestricted Settlements, All Settlements Extended, Settlement Border Expansion Project, etc. 16. Sorting and Menu Changes
Only use one. These include: Valdacil’s Item Sorting, Better Sorting, Ugh. Keys, Eli's Tweaks & Fixes All-In-One, etc. HUD 17. HUD and DEF_UI Mods
The load order for HUDFramework; add-ons then framework and DEF_UI; Framework then Add-ons, HUDFramework goes above DEF_UI. DEF_UI requires Valdacil's Item Sorting and AWKCR. CHARACTER - PIP-BOY/WEARABLES/CLOTHING/ARMOR/CRAFTING 18. Character Model Replacers/Enhancers Meshes that enhance characters. Hair, hands, EVB, CBBE, Busty, Face textures, etc. 19. Pip-boy and Map Mods
Pipboy Maps, Map markers (this section will go below HUD if no world edits). 20. New Weapons, Armor, Clothing, etc. (non-craftable)
Weapon, clothing, armor Level lists additions that do not require AWKCR to function (these are NOT items that are placed into the world). 21. Crafting (AWKCR-dependent mods)
Adds craft-able items to a Chemistry Station or other Workbench - Doesn't add to the level lists. Legendary Modification, UCO. 21.1. Crafting: New Wearable Items like Holsters
Visible Weapons and Holsters. 21.2. Crafting: Robot
All Robot Workbench mods require Automatron 21.3. Crafting: Power Armor
Power Armor MODS. 21.4. Crafting: New Workbenches
New crafting benches (NOT AWKCR) that are built in the settlement menu and add your armors/weapons. 21.5. Crafting: New Armor and Weapons (Chemistry Station)
Purely craftable armor that are added to the Chemistry bench only - no cell edits. 21.6. Crafting: Armor and Weapons AWKCR MODS
Require AWKCR in order to function. 21.7. Crafting: Workbench and New Recipe MODS
Includes mods that add categories to the crafting stations, adjust recipes, and add new recipes. FreeMaker by ANDREWCX, Wasteland Clothing Overhaul. NON-INVASIVE WORLD EDITS 22. New Settlements and Other Buildings Changes and Tweaks.
Player homes; New Settlements; Single cell edits; interiors that do not disable precombines. Some of these may need to go below scrapping MODS. 23. New Quests
Quests that add new NPCs and edits to vanilla quests but don't add new worlds. 24. Weapon and Armor Modifications
"New barrels; New weapon and footstep sounds; Any patches to the above weapons and armors; Equilibrium; Weapons that are placed in the world. See Through Scopes, Restored Radium, Realistic Gun Sounds And Bullet Crack. 25. Scrapping Mods and Placement Mods
Use caution with scrapping mods, STC and STS are safe. Place anywhere goes above. THE BOTTOM 26. Everything That Says to Place at the Bottom (as well as finicky mods)

For any one who is coming back to the game and using mods put like 4 or 5 mods on And try it if it work good then add some more at any time it starts crashing just back out and try moving them or try disableing a mod that you think is crashing your game that is the only way I have got it to work I have tried the videos

does beantown interior project and crowded commonwealth and lots of interiors clash with each other? They all are about interiors but in different parts of the map.

I have only 4 mods on my PS4: carry weight wedding rings, cheat room, weather redux and scrap everything. My system hasn't really glitched that much or crashed too much either, although it has done it. What order should they be in?

Ik this was 5 years ago but im deciding to do another play thru, I have two mods, two mods that are not working 100%. One is Sanctuary hills SP rebuild and STC - Base Game - Scrap that commonwealth. Both used to work perfectly. But now I have houses that are being replaced by the rebuild being spawned inside the ruined house the rebuild mod is supposed to delete, wouldn’t be a big deal if Scrap that commonwealth mod worked correctly and let me delete the ruined house that spawning inside the house. Both say place at the bottom of the load order, how do I fix it?

I try to download a mod on ps4 but is say "this mod cannot be installed since it depends on files that aren't present" do u have an answer for me? The mod is call armor and weapons keywords community reaourse(AWKCR) (ps4: Contraptions Patch) can someone help me?

If the mod has dlc content in it that you don't have, it won't let you access it. You would need the base game mod. Then you would have to download each mod you have dlc for individually. If that doesn't fix it, you got me.

Donahvin Reinhardt UI changes at top to build a foundation for the bottom of the list and whatever loads last at the bottom will replace the others. skins on pipboy. bith enabled, the one bottom of the list will show up

+Lunar Craft Thanks. I read somewhere that it is counted as an esm file so it will always load first. All esm files come first and are followed by any patches and then below that you keep all your other mods. The lower ones cancelling out the mods above it that have similar file changes.

Because the script runs as a master file (like cheat room) it forces itself at the top of the load order.

What makes it so impossible to create a mod that optimizes a load order for consoles? Im pretty ignorant about the topic so it’s a real question lol.

I think; but I’m no expert on the topic so take me with a grain of salt; that a load order optimizer needs to be an entirely separate, third party program. It’s plausible that Bethesda could have built a rudimentary optimizer into their console ports for Fo4 and Skyrim SE, but they didn’t and they probably won’t release a patch to add that sort of functionality in the future. So essentially, Bethesda or a licensed third party developer would need to design and release a specialized bit of software, license it and then distribute it on PSN/XBL for the express purpose of optimizing mod load orders. Not very likely to happen, they’d probably lose money in the process or they’d end up selling it, which would even further damage their credibility as a publisher. This goes doubly for PS4, as Sony has some draconian policies regarding the addition of third party content mods; they presumably make too much money from Bethesda’s creation club to allow quality content modding.

Hey lunar gaming or other viewers, by any chance can you look over my mod load order and see what I did wrong ? I downloaded the "Scrap that settlement mod" by 3lric, and every time I scrap things from sanctuary hills it reappears when I load again. Plz help

Some need uninstaller but there ism a mod for that I think if you are having problems. Look on benches to see if you can craft an uninstaller holotype.

Dont have any unless it's the only mod you run!! It Fucks up previs and precombines...basically unmovable bits of the game or something,that cause lag and crashes when removed by the modder...just not good for playing fallout 4 with mods

Here's what I despise about fallout 4 console mods. Everybody on RU-vid seems to be fine with them and give lots of advise pertaining them that doesn't help even a little. You know we want skin mods but you neglect to cover where they go ,how they work ,and why theirs so much trouble with them . You know foliage is an issue but never cover why or how to get around it? What's the difference between mod that adds cloaths to build and mod that adds cloathes with perks? What about lighting and fog? What about when everything seems fine and then you get to diamond city and there's no piper and the door won't open? How the hell do you fix that?!?! Bethesda should start a hotline. So much would be achieve d if only we could talk directly to someone who can help. The experience makes me hate Bethesda passionately as well as the modding experience. Feels like an exclusive club for smug douchebags.
