Fallout 4 Guide - Fix the ruined houses in Tenpines + County Crossing 

A billion years later and I'm still coming to your videos to help build settlements. 😄

It's a shame you can't assign settlers to 'repair' these structures and the houses in Sanctuary. Would give the illusion of them actually giving a crap about where they live. Cheers for the new tips chap :)

I feel so dumb.... I had no idea those wall ends were meant for the sides of the lil roofed walls. I just thought they were another inconveniently designed half walls.

I still play the game like it came out yesterday. I have been just designing around the structure so seeing you build and place the way you did is fascinating

First - also the settlement tours will be back on the weekend; I procrastinated way too much last weekend and being a 9-5 guy, it means I don't have the time to finish one until Saturday/Sunday. I hope this one helps some of you though.

Any idea when Abernathy Farms settlement is coming up, and when you do it, are you going to utilize the 21 story high build limit? Also, quick (awesome) tip with Abernathy Farm (and this was a *major bitch* to figure out), the settlement borders are nearly/exactly 11 concrete blocks wide and 34 concrete blocks long. What this means is that instead of deciding to just start a build in some random plot of ground and then building different structures near it (assuming it'll be some what similar to your Sunshine Tidings, Castle, and other settlements where you've got different buildings near it) you can actually have them evenly spaced or connected perfectly to each other. I was able to build a small town (on PS4) that had streets, avenues, and alleyways running down the length and width of the settlement. I even was able to perfectly incorporate the pre-existing structure to my build by figuring out the exact distances between it and my own structures. And a lot of my buildings have sky bridges that are perfectly snapped to each other, and guess what? EVERY Building can potentially *snap* to another if i want it to, whether they're by each other or on the other side of the settlement border, all i've got to do is build a bridge. I really think you should try this out, and this could be applied to other settlements with 90 degree borders, it just takes a lot of dicking around. Also, I need you to declare me the real Preston before those other Prestons try and steal my identity like on your last vid, that'd be grand

Love these!👍🏻 Before you shown me the pillar technique, I used to fix those two houses in a similar fashion. I used to start with the foundation of the building, then add a wood staircase(one with the platforms) to the top floor, and use a foundation floor block to help sink'em in. I think it works well, especially with CC, because the stairs "stay away" from the workstation. Then all there is to mess it up is that line oil lamp on the inner floor. I've also done this with Murkwater Construction Site. 👍🏻 Take Care!

It is actually quite sad and disappointing that you need to glitch the game to do what you want with settlement building (not to mention the lack of an in-depth tutorial to help you with controls, I JUST found out a few days ago that you could select all objects that were attached to one another). I really hope the workshop DLC can address some of these issues that restrict some freedom with building.

Since all the DLC and mods came out do you think you are going to revisit/improve this idea ?

Thanks doctor, I never thought of using objects other than the rug. That foundation seemed to work fairly well. I was getting sick of those little shit boxes and contemplating just filling the bastards with concrete and building on top of them.

I usually abandon, like 1/4 of the available settlement locations because they just don't look worth it. But I do have one question.... with all of the buildings that are still standing, why in the hell are people staying in run-down shacks and all that crap?

That's awesome! My advice though - Don't use the rotate buttons to try and do small and precise rotations, simply look to the left or right. You can rotate super slow and it's great for getting the perfect angle you need. You might have to move a little forwards or backwards from time to time as your character is now the center of rotation and not the object.

Thanks so much for doing this! I was able to do the County Crossing house with the rug but I didn't realize you could also do this with foundations. This'll be really helpful for Tenpines Bluff where the land's not as flat. Gonna try this method some time this week. Really like these little tip videos by the way!

Awesome video as usual. Just wondering a little about settlement defence, do you build junk fences around the perimeters of all your settlements? Given that some of the settlements are quite large and have a lot of area to encircle, eg. Sanctuary, Abernathy farm, would this not be a significant drain on steel and wood resources? Or do you just suck it up and buy mass shipments of wood and steel?

Hey! This has actually bugged me for some time, and I thought of just asking away. Do you get the resources through time the ''legit'' way, use exploits or console commands? I've had great visions of a trade empire built by my character, but always when I get the groove on I seem to run out of resources. I've run to few exploits and know how to use the console commands, but like doing it legit that I find the supplies myself... Any hints?

Trying to do the same w/ the giant ruined house on Spectacle Island, but this doesn't seem to be working... I'm guessing because of the huge amount of ruined walls & floors causing collisions... :\

Mine will not go down past the lantern. The lantern cannot be taken away. Have they done something like a patch where floors can no longer be merged with static world items or something? I took off the floor pieces that clash with the floor lantern and the house places down no problem but now the floor looks so uneven without those pieces. 😢

Thanks, this is great! :D I mean, my floor looks terrible and has heaps of garbage laying around so I can't really use the floor space the way I'd liked to, but I guess it has something to do with the depth or whatever you were talking about in the beginning of the video, I don't think I made it deep enough.

You know what, I think Country Crossing would be a great place for a Player Home

The only flaw with this build, and U mean the literal ONLY flaw...is you can't click and drag entire structures into the space of the wrecked house...otherwise, this poor console (XB1) abuser would be doing this in a heartbeat. >.>

With all the mods available for Fallout 4, I refuse to make do with wrecked buildings like this. This game is 200+ years after the bombs fell. One of 2 things most likely occurred, human kind either disappeared entirely or they grouped together to re-establish industry, building new villages, towns, & cities with all the recyclable resources available scattered throughout the Commonwealth. The only limits we face in this game is the short sighted "Creators" from Bethesda & their lack vision & understanding of human nature.

Is there a mod or hack to remove skeletons, or other debris that can't be scrapped or stored? The Starlight Drive-in has a skeleton upstairs where you could put a sleeping bag at least. NPC's dont care, I know, but I do.

A little late but got into fallout 4 this year. I’m a bit stuck on your last step. How are you selecting the foundation and the house at the same time. Playing on PS4 Just rewatched and found out you have to hold X ! Great 👍🏻

Very helpful, I'm new to the game and I was trying to figure this out on my own and had no idea about the foundation trick.

so you don't need the rug and the column to glitch in whole houses or house parts into existing structures? you can use the concrete foundation...can you also use the wooden shack foundation...my question is, can you pull off similar creations that you have done without the dlc's? i haven't gotten any of the dlc's yet, but i have been constructing settlements, (no where near the scale i've seen you do, but i'm learning), which is why i ask...

When you run out of building space instead of dropping a bunch of items and scrapping them to free up a large chunk of space you can simply attach and then store a wire to allow you to build one thing at a time so you minimize the risk of crashing your game by getting carried away freeing up and using more space than you need if your just doing the final touches just be sure to have the item you want to build selected in the menu before you store the wire if you don't then it won't work also if you try to cycle through the build menu after you store the wire it will go back to saying you can't build more.

Ah yes, the ancient techniques! I will make sure to take notes. I just watched an Oxhorn video about an efficiency build and found out that I build a huge guard tower with scrap fencing and a train wagon to house guards on top of a spawn point. Now I got to ease my pain by watching your videos so I can create another pretty corner that can stay long term.

Nicely done. That's my third largest settlement. I fixed that building as well, but long before I knew about bypassing the object collision using the concrete blocks. It was a royal pain in the ass.

"Jet videos" have better quality in my opinion but normal time videos can go into more detail. Anyway, love your videos, always helpful, keep it up.

Nice trick! I usually just build a stair (the one with small platforms on both ends) beside the ruined house, then snapped several floors to the top platforms and simply build a new floating house on top of the ruined one. :)

Even as a PC user, i started off on console and love watching your videos due to how creative you are with your settlements and use of glitches to make some amazing builds. (Although i will admit i use place anywhere to make my own life easier) 😂

I think I did this at the wrong place. I did it at Tempines bluff. I thought they were the same place. until I realized it ridiculously hard to it at Tempines bluff. I've been trying for like a half hour trying to put this damn house in😩

Thanks for this, I used your first floor idea, this combined with a few console commands (PC Player, to get rid of the starting mattresses) and my farmers/guards/provisioners at Tenpines have much better sleeping quarters, and I got a nice place to stash my power armor

I need help. Everytime I try to scrap something I built or try to build a generator in Sanctuary Hills my game crashes. Does this happen to anyone esle? Is there a way to fix this. P.s I play on ps4.
