Fallout 4: Let's Play Episode 1! Out into the Commonwealth! 

It's pretty satisfying to watch someone experience Fallout for the first time.

I LOVE long form videos like this of people just playing fall out and talking, so happy to find another person to watch.

This is one of my favorite games and love watching people discover this awesome game loved the first episode!

There's a book on the floor in Shaun's room, pick it up. It's a SPECIAL book. If you ask me, the Minutemen is the best faction. Preston's quest can be annoying, but he is a good man.

I don't know how you stumbled onto my notifications but hearing your voice and the fact you've not got experience with fallout games make me look forward to this episode and future ones liked and subbed :)

Pick up as much adhesive and aluminum as you can. junk can be broken down at a work shop and hot-keyed as well. you'll thank me later.

So nice to find a new, blind playthrough these days that's not done by a child, but by a real, grown adult. Watching you play really brings the nostalgia, since I was a grown adult (and a parent too) when this game was new and I played it for the first time. It's almost like reliving my first playthrough. So glad I found this!

Another tip is almost everything you can pick up can be used for crafting something, fans have electronic parts, tin cups have, well, tin lol It’s very much a open world scavenger game rpg

Just ran through a few playthroughs of this game myself. Love it seeing as its based in my home area of Boston! You will enjoy it I bet! Excited for this! Also love that you're going in blind. I suggest trying not too look everything up its better than exploits on your first playthrough.

Hi!👋🐈 After 6 playthrus, having sided up with all factions, I enjoyed the Institute the greatest. I wrote about 5 paragraphs of "advice", decided to erase it all. You just do what you are doing, great first run thru... enjoy the long journey. I will say this tho, that the best chem to make, once you have the Chemist trait, is Refreshing Beverage. I always carried 5 bottles in inventory as they have saved me more times than there are stars (well almost). Also, PIP Boy has a light (flashlight) function that will help you... and us viewers. The magnifying glass symbol next to junk item, that item is now "tagged" for a component that you require... say adhesive to upgrade a weapon. Remember: "War. War never changes." 🐈

Good to see someone who has never played Fallout 4 before experiencing it for the first time - and you are pretty good at it! Subscribed and looking forward to this epic series!

Luck is good skill to build as you’ll find better things when looting, but the way you set you skills up is pretty decent.

Base rule of Fallout 4 looting... Take EVERYTHING that you can, that isn't nailed down.

Even though I’ve been playing Fo4 since it was released at the end of 2015, I’m still happy to watch newbies stumble around the Commonwealth. So I hope you have a great time, Mike!😁 Yes, pick up everything you can & drop it into your work bench for now, especially food & drink and chems as well as junk. You can also use the containers/dressers/ etc. to store all the weapons, armor, mods & clothing you don’t need immediately. 1:01:07 - There is a SPECIAL book in Shaun’s room you missed. It will let you to add a point to one of the SPECIAL stats you can choose. As you travel around the Boston area, you’ll find Vault-tec Bobbleheads which will automatically do the same to their relevant statistic (provided you haven’t already levelled it up to 10!)

Every time you see a red work bench it’s an area where you can build a new settlement, these are great for just scraping things for use in other settlements or building new outposts.

Bottlecaps are the currency that you can buy and sell stuff with. After speaking with Preston you should have picked up the Bobblehead as they also boost your Special attributes. Regards, Gary.

OH MY GOD! I DID IT! I FINALLY DID IT! I actually found a RU-vidr that plays hours of fallout and has commentary over it. This will be all I will listen to at work. Keep doing what you're doing, you know what RU-vid viewers want!

Fallout 4 is an awesome game. When you're running around the map, explore everything, you never know what kind of treasures that you'll find.

One tip I can offer for playing Fallout games, search EVERYTHING. Look at EVERYTHING. You NEVER know what goodies might be sitting in plain sight but you missed because you weren't looking close enough. For example, a very important book you missed in your son's room 3 boxes outside the vault and that medicine cabinets are containers. Finally, when you level up you can pick ANY perk that is colored in, it is only the ones that are whited out that you can't pick until you have enough points in the needed SPECIAL stat. You aren't limited to the first row unless you only have 1 stat in that skill.

I'm shocked at the resurgence of this game. It is absolutely everywhere again.

Why does every streamer miss the medicine cabinets? It hurts my soul every time I watch them go in and out of a bathroom without even glancing at the mirrors above the sink. 😢😂

Fallout enemies have a cone of awareness. So long as you're not moving and your Sneak level is high enough, you can be next to them and they won't notice. Start focusing on what kind of fighter you want to be as you progress. With time you can become a Jack of All Trades but building at least two offensive skills would help in the beginning.

I'm glad I found your playthrough, which I'm enjoying a lot. I started F4 a few months ago and have 160 hours in now. I'm not sure which tips you'd like, but of course no spoilers. I'll just add here a couple: 1) Check the mirrors/medicine cabinets in bathrooms, they often contain bobby pins and other items. 2) Your Pip-Boy has a light. On PC you hold down the button that brings up the Pip-Boy (Tab), maybe it's the same for a controller?

Not sure if anyone else has mentioned this yet or not but you can pick any perk as long as it is lit up and you’re the right level. Each row is a special level, so for example you have strength 5 - so you can go down to row 5. Then perks scale up according to your level. You can use perk points to adjust your special if you choose to - if there’s a perk you want to unlock or boost that attribute higher.

Pick up bobble heads they’re collectable and gives perks

Remember you don't have to breakdown every junk item. It's stored as a whole item but it gets broken down when you use a opponent off the item and excess opponents is stored in workbench.. You don't have to fill up one perk to get to another one, as long as the picture of perk is formed you can put a point in it. They go by levels

I have played multiple playthroughs since day one . Seeing you starting blind has brought back so many memories. I'm looking forward to the next video.

You’re doing much better than I did when I first played these games. There’s an ability that will make your junk stash shared between all the workbenches. Also, your pip-boy has a flashlight (press and hold tab for a few seconds, I believe). Just make sure you turn it off when trying to be stealthy.

Yeees! Looking forward to watching you play through this game! I enjoyed it as much as (maybe a little more 😅) than Skyrim. Quite immersive and the settlement building is open to your imagination. No preset homes here. I’m sure others have made some great suggestions, so apologies if any duplicates. Bottle Caps are the currency and you’ll want to pick up quite a few things that will enable you to upgrade weapons and armor (fans, hot plates, typewriters). A couple of things you’ll want to check out: 1. Go back to your house. There’s a perk point magazine under Shawn’s dresser. 2. Leave your house and proceed left, behind the houses. You should stumble across a cellar full of goodies. There’s a second house continuing left that a tree has fallen on. Walk up the tree trunk and there’s a duffel bag of goodies on the roof. I truly hope you love this game as much as I do! Have fun!

There is a stormcellar behind one of the houses in Sanctuary. It is a good place to hide from radstorms when in Sanctuary, and has some decent loot. A lot of people miss it. Scouring every nook and cranny is my Forte, though...amazing what you find. Terminals and notes enrich the universe and game lore.

Makes me want to play it again! On my second play through, I played as a woman so I could get all the crazy hairstyles. Your SPECIAL picks were good. Endurance is good early on because it keeps you alive. Strength is also good because it allows you to carry a lot of stuff, which you will start collecting soon. They all have their used, but those two are the biggies for starting out.

Mike this is so cool! I literally just started playing Fallout4! I'm only 10hrs into the game. I go to turn on RU-vid and this video popped up right away! That is so so cool! If there is one thing i could recommend is to scrap everything from your settlements except for crafting stations for the raw materials

Ok something random that I usually don't do, especially in a new community but that inspired my own look on that intro based on experiences I've had with people that have been in wartime scenarios. Here goes... War, War never changes. It changes us, those who fight and die in it. It brings us to realize what we are capable of and sometimes what we don't want to be. It alters your perception of everything, from your neighbors to your family. War ALWAYS changes those who fight in it. But as for itself, War, War never changes. I hope you all enjoy that and it gets you thinking. That exact piece will probably never be written again as I will probably never remember the wording.

So fun watching a first timer. I got LOADS of tips, but I'd hate to ruin it for you. Part of the fun is the discovery. 😊 Looking forward to Part 2!

I have 7643.3 hours in Fallout 4, and still love it. So it's nice to see someone discover it for the first time! If you get into "Mods" there is so much content revolving around female characters.

So all the junk pretty much you want to pick up you can store it in your workshop and that becomes the materials you build and mod with... so every from cigar boxes to coffee cups are useful especially in the beginning as you will need tons of material to build anything

Fun fact: Nora, your "wife", is voiced by Jennifer Hale who also voiced the female Commander Shepard in the Mass Effect series. Furthermore, Nick Valentine's VA is the same fellow that voiced Garrus Vakarian, also from the Mass Effect series. 😁

Your work shops can be connected once you upgrade you perks under charisma there is a perk called local leader once that is upgraded you can assign settlers as provisioners which with will connect you work shops.. also taking all your junk out of the work station dropping it and using the building mechanism to scrap it will break the junk into components which makes it easier to see how much of each you have an well as increase the build limit

Oh, you're in for a treat! Much like Skyrim, but with guns, and a severely complex building/crafting system. When you're in a settlement area, and you have access to the workbench, you don't need to pick everything up and run it to the workbench, you can scrap it right where you find it. Some things are scrapable, others are not, and apparel and weapons don't tell you what they will break down into. Guns you'll get steel, clothes give you cloth, and leather armor gives you leather oddly enough. Raider armor gets you steel, raider harness's, road leathers, and sack hood give you cloth or leather. Later on, when you get the Scrapper perc you'll get screws, copper, nuclear material among other items when you scrap stuff. Early-game 'must have' percs are Gun Nut, Scrounger, Locksmith, Toughness, Hacker, Medic, Idiot Savant, and the one that has the metal detector (can't remember the actual name at the moment) and Aquaboy. Aquaboy-You don't take rads in deeper water and you don't drown win-win, also convenient when you don't want to fight but need to cross a body of water to get where you need to be. Scrounger-More found bullets and ammo. Gun Nut- Better damage/sighting/magazine capacity - more damage output equals faster dead baddies until you get the scrounger perc ammo can be pretty scarce at your luck level. Idiot Savant- Random extra XP for anything that gets you XP. More XP=more level-ups=more percs faster so you're not at a completely unfair disadvantage as you run across bigger, nastier baddies. Locksmith/Hacker-both necessary for loot and access loot, but also for immersion, quest progression, new quest options. There's many benefits for both. Toughness-More damage resistance, and since there are a lot of enemies that will want to melee you it doesn't hurt as bad when they do, at least until you can get better armors and/or upgrade Armorsmith to improve your own armors. I noticed you missed a bunch of items in the vault, and outside of the vault, you can go back inside though and grab everything when you have some down time while you're deciding what to do/where to go next. Also, because of your low Luck quite a few items weren't even in the dressers/containers/lockers/medicine cabinets in the vault. Myself I bump everything to 4 and disburse the remainder to the special skills into Luck, Charisma, Strength, Intelligence. I don't use chems or VATS so action points aren't my main concern. I see you have the smarts to reload after every combat encounter, that alone will serve you well, reload, de-rad, heal after every engagement and your chances get better at surviving the next wave - and trust me there will be more waves in certain places. Traps! - watch out for trip-wires, mines, tension triggers (like on the safe in Sanctuary where you found the Makeshift Bomb), you'll find these tension triggers on everything, doors, bathroom stalls, yellow explosives boxes, safes, anything that can 'open' so tread carefully and watch your step before entering any unfamiliar room. I see you uploaded episode 2, so I'm going to watch it next, good luck and try to survive!

Hold down B for flashlight & light for Power Armor ( it will help the people watching see whats going on especially at night ) ! Pick up everything you can sell it for caps or trade... there are roaming traders and places with buildings traders... good luck & have fun.

Found your channel trough your Skyrim series that I’ve really been enjoying. Echoing others here but really nice to see you dig into Fallout without having played it before. The first time with Bethesdas games are special so hopefully you can stay away from any and all outside sources regarding story and mechanics. Will be waiting for part 2.

Perfect for me, as yesterday I purchased this game. I love where you went from not picking up stuff to grabbing everything! Exactly what i did after finding the workshop. But I went a different way around the village and ended up there last lol.

I'm glad to see you enjoying the game so far. There are lots of comments. I'm sure they've given you the 411 on the basics. I'll just add that examine the clothes you get. Some will boost your stats, particularly the Sequin Dress towards Charisma when trying to persuade, buying and selling. Extra weapons can be broken down at the weapons workbench, but I recommend getting the first level of Scrapper. I've only played this game 5 times. The bugs in the tutorial had me put the game down for two days before I dared to pick it up again. Vans is the equivalent of Clairvoyance in Skyrim. The game gives quest marks, so you don't need it. If you think what you saw at the Red Rocket is brutal, you ain't seen nothing yet.

Grab just about everything you can carry. When in one of your cities, you can break don't items into components - which you can later use to modify weapons, armor, or necessary items.

Keep it all to you get to one of your places

All 'junk' contains crafting components. There are only like 3 items that are actually junk, folders, burnt books and burnt magazines irc. If you examine an item, if it has components, it's not junk.

Great to see a new fallout 4 player, ive lost track of how many times ive played this game myself, have just recently started a new play through but with mods, there is a great mod called sim settlements which am using and there is a new mod coming soon called fallout: London, as for junk if you want to build up settlements you'll definitely need to pick up nearly everything that's not nailed down, unfortunately this game turned me into an horder 😂 anything i come across in the game i pick up if it can be picked up i always become over encumbered lol, looking forward to seeing more, you've just got another sub 👍👌

Enjoy your first play through. My only advice: take a closer look at the Perk trees before you pick anything after each level up. You can pick from the rows further down. Each row down requires you to have an additional point in the SPECIAL stats for that column. So if you have a stat of 4, you can choose perks that are up to 4 rows down. Some perks are definitely more useful early on. Like the lock picking, if you like getting into safeboxes and locked doors. Or the gun perks for extra damage. And so on. Also, if you're a little more careful, you will find more loot (you missed at least two safes in your starting town -- sometimes they're hard to spot underneath dressers, or other furniture items).

Enjoyed your play through of FO4 so far. They just don't make em like this anymore so I will sub to see how your travels in the wasteland turn out. Good luck out there!

the nice thing about FO4 vs. previous games - anything you pick up can be broken down into materials to build out your settlements. It was a neat addition to the franchise.

Deskfans have screws, which you will need. Bottlecaps are an ABSOLUTE NECESSITY, and they are the game's currency.

This is my absolute favorite PS4 game. I’m glad you’re enjoying it!

When you are in Workshop mode, you can hover over items and CONVERT them into raw materials. For example, you can NOT pick up tires, but when in Workshop Mode, you can convert tires into Rubber, which is a vital component. Scrap everything you can for raw materials. All the homes have broken furniture which can be scrapped into wood. and other components. Scrap empty bottles for glass. Heck, even the Blast Radius game you skipped over provides Nuclear Material which you will need. Again, SCRAP EVERYTHING!!!

My favorite part of playing fallout 4 is scrapping nearly every item in each outpost and building stuff.

The looting in this game is just fantastic, how everything will break down to components and thus have a use is just great. The workbench has unlimited storage, so if you like looting, just grab whatever you can hold and store it at a settlement for crafting! And there is another book in Shauns room (under the dresser) at Sanctuary which gives you +1 in any stat of your choosing!

Fallout 4 is an absolutely fantastic game with some pretty amazing accidental features. Look forward to watching this series and will check out your other vids too. Subbed 👌👍

So i played fallout 3 and new vegas back in the day and loved it and i just got fallout 4 last week and playing it and im loving it, the only issue for me is almost every video on the game is about how to exploit bugs and glitches, its nice to see videos of someone having actual fun with the game itself and learning the game like me.

Welcome, welcome to the Commonwealth... Lots to explore ahead, make it your own!

I think FO4 has incredible character creation system. But, I think they introduce it to you in the wrong way. The Perks are far more important than the SPECIAL stats, but you can't look at the perks until the end of the tutorial, about the time you finalize your character. I get it, they don't wantt to overwhelm the player with 70 perks. I also get that you can increase a stat instead of taking a perk. But you can waste so much time on a bad stat spread early on. Str. - Mostly for melee and heavy weapons users. 3 is nice for everyone, for Armorer. Per. - if you plan to free aim, you don't need much. Some universally good perks on the low end. Higher levels are for using vats. End. - dump stat on normal difficulty. More useful for melee characters. Cha. - controversial stat. Persuasion checks aren't as robust in this game, and you can boost it with clothes and drugs. Many of the high end perks are for more niche styles of play. Lone Wanderer at 3 is OP. Players who love settlements need 6. Int. - a lot of good perks. Hard to summarize. 3-4 is OK universally, 6 for energy weapons. Higher perks are all good, but for different reasons. Agi. - for heavy vats use, sneak, power attacks. Good for everyone, but especially good for pistol users. Luck - almost exclusively for vats use. You can only crit in vats. If you prefer free aim, this is useless. Scrounger at 2 is exceptionally good for finding extra ammo.

Really good vid! The 1st time playing Fallout 4 is always special! In my 1st playthrough I got distracted by the outside & tried to talk to my neighbors to see if they were OK! I died because if you take too long the bombs drop LOL! Great job, keep up the good work! I look forward to watching the other vids!

Oh WOW this is super cool! I've had Fallout 4 in my Steam library for about 4 years now (got it during the COVID19 lock downs) but only played just a few minutes back then! (Was playing a lot of Civilization 6 then and it's still one of my go-to games!) Total I have 113 minutes of play time! So I haven't really experienced the game for the very first time and probably shouldn't watch this let's play but Mike I like your RU-vid content and I am going to watch it! Also I am playing Baldur's Gate 3 right now and don't have memory space for FO4 !

Hopefully he goes back and gets the your special book under shawns crib.

Love watching someone discover the Fallout universe for the first time.... I don't know if you have figured it out yet, but mirrors above sinks are sometimes medicine cabinets that hold loot, mailboxes can also be containers... Empty bottles can be scrapped for glass, which you will use later. I pretty much scrap all of Sanctuary Hills at the beginning of the game and transfer everything... Always end up over encumbered, but I end up needing it to build bases or mods for my weapons. Noticed you skipped picking up a pistol as well... when you first start out and are poor guns are often worth more per unit than some of the junk you can pick up... guns can be scrapped for parts as well. Hopefully by now you have figured out there is a built in flashlight...

If you want your work benches to chare all between settlements you need the local leader perk under charisma and put up supplylines between settlements

Collect absolutely everything you can! Go back to your first settlement and store your junk there if your pockets get full. You will need it for scrapping elements, etc later which will help with your settlement builds and other work benches. Enjoy! It’s the best game ever. I’ve played through twice and revisit it more than any other game

I tried playing for the first time last year but i suck at playing games- i’m much better watching you guys play LMAO. I’m sooooo happy to watch someone else go in blindly and live vicariously. I’m mad excited to read everyone’s tips & see you implement them!!! So exciting!!!

Hopefully you are learning more as you go along. You skipped right past several duffle bags. They always have weapons and ammo, and sometimes armor. After meeting Preston, you looked right at the Perception Bobblehead, and just left it. The Bobbleheads ADD to your perks! Make sure you collect all of them.

I love this game, even today and especially with all the mods you can use making it like new again, different quests, clothes and even endings and building assets.

Take junk & drop on the floor near a red workbench. Then press the button with 2 squares & highlight each item & scrap it, it will go into the workbench but broken down into the components you need. Also walk outside, hit the 2 squares button again & highlight a tree, or car or anything & scrap it, it also goes into the workbench. Pick up everything early game to scrap, sell or reuse. Don't drop duplicates at this stage. Enjoy the game & if you enjoy go for New Vegas next as it's a classic. Mark the gaming grandad

The meat from Radstags when you cook it gives you a really decent boost to your carry weight whenever you are over-encumbered. Don't move around as quickly as you do in Skyrim be more precise and careful. Best regards Gary.
