Fallout 4: Let's Play Episode 14! Following The Freedom Trail! 

Freedom Trail is a real thing. It looks pretty much like in the game. Starts the the State House, goes through quite a few historical landmarks and ends at USS Constitution (which is also a museum at this time, as well as the oldest active Navy ship in the world)

Mike, you are doing a great job with the game and I really enjoyed when you had Piper picking up the guns in the Rations Depot. BTW, did you pick up the other two letters from Lil and the magazine that was there??? They are usually on the table but may have fallen on the floor from your grenade..

I love watching playthroughs of various Bethesda games. I have a couple people I watch all the time while I play, Gopher, Sorcerer Dave, and now there's you! I found your Skyrim videos and started playing again. On a sidenote when you explain things, you remind me of a European sports announcer. I really like that. I was waiting for this...Deacon is my favorite character in the Fallout franchise. He has been following you. He is in the background at several places...most recently, you can see him lying in a pod in The Memory Den when you were hacking Kellogg's memories...

Yeeees…you recon the Castle Preston and I’ll be along…shortly. Lol! That was a nice move and an easy way to get Preston out of your hair. Nice randoms from Scribe Haylen too. Both in the Commonwealth. First one she tried to give me was way out in Far Harbor. Now you know what Sully was up to as well…no good! There is a terminal in the building next to the pump you help him with that reveals his secret, but I think it’s more fun to find out the way you did. A lot more exciting!

You're becoming an Ace with that Guardian. You got skillz bro. I still recommend maxing out your Gun Nut perk and adding a suppressor on that gun. You may loose a little bit of range but it's nice to take out mobs without other mobs gleaning your location when you do. And, as per usual, I recommend the recon scope as you can bead in on enemies and keep them tracked no matter where they go as long as you've a recon weapon armed. I don't do nightvision much as proper gamma correction will help with that. Plus nightvision borks your vision during the day.

Mike you can leave any crafting items in the main work station . when you craft at a bench then the items will be avaiable to you at any of your settlements conected by a provisioner, without taking them out. Cooking ingrediants, chem ingrediants and weapon and armor mods. If you get another settlement quest to go into the stockpile, go in through the church. its shorter unless you want xp from kills.If you gather weapons and armor like you have started to do you can also store them in a container you build so that later you can deconstruct them when you get the Scrapper, or scounger can't remember which and get more items from them, screws etc Good time to send Piper to a settlement somewhere you visit, so when you sleep you get a lovers perk) and pick up Deacon or another companion.You have to do the first railroad quest with him anyway to make him available.

It's interesting watching you get skilled at this game because as you do so your true gaming skills start to work with the combat dynamics of this game. As such you tend to do things better than I do (I don't have the time to game so much so I'm really not that skilled). Hence the student becomes the master and I wind up learning from you instead of visa-versa, i.e. you know when to use the shotgun and when to use the Guardian. Although I'd recommend tapping your VATS key on occasion when you have trouble spotting enemies. It's a habit I've developed playing Fallout 4. You don't seem to tap it enough when enemies "disappear". It's a good "saving grace". You spend too much time "hunting" around for the mob when tapping the VATS key would find them relatively quickly. Keep in mind if you develop this habit you'll tend to try to do it in other games that don't even know what the hell VATS is, like I do :) . Also, I find I'm biting my lip less often as you are not as prone to make the mistakes most new-comers do when they first start playing. In essence, you're "getting into the groove" :)

Drop a settlement management terminal in Sanctuary. It gives you some useful functions for settlers and tracking companions. It's in the electrical section under Miscellaneous.

Stick a raider gas mask on jun long. It makes for a more cheerful playthrough.

Daddy-O and Day Tripper can be used to buy something expensive

Hunting rifles in this game seem to be inferior to combat rifle in pretty much every way. With the best mods and best legendary effect, while hunting rifle may do a little more damage, but it has a lot stronger recoil and much slower fire rate. And armor is much harder to find - have to keep buying it at every opportunity.

Also, when hacking computer terminals I've noticed that the password seems (and I emphasize the word "seems") to be related to the area you are involved in. It's weird but I've noticed that if I can pick the password that most relates to the situation you're in at the moment or anything to do with the environment somehow, it works. I can't quite put my finger on it. You'll just have to see for yourself.

You can use the extra junk and aid items to decorate your settlements further. Drop the items individually and then use the workshop to set them up right and or manually move them into position. I think you know what I mean. Like putting down cups, plates and etc you got this tho bro.

You may already know this but the vault suits you picked up at Vault-tec Regional Headquarters in a previous episode are the result of a Creation Club quest that came out with the next-gen update. The vault jumpsuit will allow you to wear armor over it but cannot be modified, other than maybe insulation, the vault UTILITY suit can be modified with ballistic weave, depending on your armorer level but you cannot wear armor over it, you can change the color and choose a vault number on either of them. Also, for your settlement needs, the general rule of thumb is for your defense to be the sum of your food and water production at a minimum, so for Nordhagen it should be at least 9, Sanctuary is a little low too, Red Rocket is good on defense but you might check if everyone has a job, and all the beds are raised Finally, you may not have realized it but you have seen Deacon on several occasions, he was in a memory lounger when you went to the memory den, he was standing next to you in Goodneighbor when Hancock was giving his speech from the balcony, he was a guard at Diamond City

Yeah there are so many ways to get around overencumberence. Glitches, companions, backpack mods, just doing trips back and forth or ultimately just max out "Strong back". I just use console commands to boost my carryweight. In the end I will have this stuff anyway, the only difference is how much time its takes, and my time is better spend playing the rest of the game.

Settlements have specific enemy "spawn points". For example, Sanctuary has one just west of the main bridge, one at the beginning of the trail up to Vault 111 and one just east of the circle/culdesac at the end of the road. For Nordhagen Beach you'd be best putting a turret right on top of their shack as I know there's a spawn point near the plane wreckage west of the shack and one near the bridge where you placed the turret. Once you get to know these spawn points you'll have a better idea where to build proper defenses. There's generally only about 3 or so per settlement.

Deacon actually vouches for you in other way depending on what you've completed. Like leader of the minutemen or a brotherhood of steel big shot! He is a great character!

The guy yiou helped fix teh pump at the Excavation - he was gang leader.

Every time you ask Piper to pick something up, all I can hear is, "Bop it, twist it, pull it." 😂

There was a skill magazine on Red Turette's table that you missed.

The raider in Power Armor (not that it matters now) - he took the suit that was standing in one of the containers. You could've taken that suit if you approached from a different side.

Abernathy Farm has a bunch a Tato plants growing.

- Within a settlement, and those connected with supply lines, all crafting components are shared amongst the various workstations. You don't need to have the components in your inventory. If a particular food item isn't in the workshop, you can manually harvest the item yourself. - I noticed you made Crispy Squirrel Bits. That's a waste of Squirrel Bits. You're better off making Squirrel Stew, which requires more ingredients, including Bloodleaf, which can be difficult to find. Bloodleaf usually grows in shallow water. Consuming Squirrel Stew provides a small bonus to XP for a few hours. - The Minutemen quests can be really weird. At the moment, Sanctuary Hills is the home of the Minutemen. It has guards and defences, yet somebody was kidnapped. How? It reminds me of one of my play throughs. I spent the night at Tenpines Bluff, which was heavily defended with walls, turrets and about five guards. With me, I had a human follower and Dogmeat, yet somehow Super Mutants were able to sneak in and kidnap a settler. What was even more baffling, the settler who was kidnapped was one of the guards. 🤦‍♂ - At the Federal Ration Stockpile, the Blamco delivery never actually took place. The delivery ws supposed to happen on the afternoon of the day the bombs fell. You also missed a magazine on the coffee table in Red Tourette's room. - The tunnel mentioned on the terminal at the Federal Ration Stockpile is just past where you encountered Red Tourette. It leads to the Lonely Chapel. - At Beantown Brewery you will find out what happened to Red Tourette's sister. - If you cripple a radscorpion's legs, it will be unable to burrow into the ground. - 1:22:28 - Interesting that you made that comment, as it has more meaning to it than you know. 🤔 I'm not going to say anything else about this until sometime later in your play through. - You will encounter the Children of Atom eventually. Some of their followers are friendly. Others, not so much. - At Thicket Excavations, if you shoot the bar on the gates of the mirelurk pens at the bottom of the quarry, it will set the mirelurks free, which will then attack the raiders. The mirelurk which was wandering around wasn't supposed to be outside the pen. - It's a bit of a missed opportunity that followers don't say anything about the crashed spaceship or the alien. Especially with Piper. As you mentioned in the video, it could be her next news story. - At each marked location along the Freedom Trail there is a plaque you can read which details the historical significance of the location. - The Railroad have some interesting 'toys,' but I'm not a fan of them. I won't say too much. I'll let you make up your own mind about them.

2 hints @Mike-The Gaming Dad #1 refreshing beverages do so much more than cure addiction, they're also awesome for healing and rad removal. #2 If you're over encumbered and you have alcohol, drink the alcohol. Most of it gives you temporary Strength boosts which gives you temporary carry weight boosts.

Well, I'm out.. your series thus far has been mildly entertaining, and I mean mildly. At this point it's like watching paint dry, either you're experimenting with some novel concept a comment suggested which just slows the gameplay to beyond a boring level. Then the constant 'assuming' this and 'assuming' that, which if you just played the game you'd probably figure out all by yourself, I'm assuming this of course.. in short, don't quit your day job to become a youtube superstar just yet. It's painful to watch at this point, and I hope you'll take this critique to heart, not only for Fallout but your Skyrim episodes too.. just play the games and learn the hard way like everybody else. Min/Maxing your inventory is boring as hell in game, and twice as bad on stream. Telling us what you're going to do in every episode is pointless, because any Fallout player knows it won't happen. Saying you're going to watch your carry weight and not pick anything up, then exactly two seconds later picking junk up.. Please change this because you're falling into the trap that most mediocre youtubers fall into, and they stay mediocre. I just can't watch this anymore as it is.. not entertaining, not informative, not original in any way.
