@@tjthedj6871 This is a quote from the Fallout Wiki about the root cellar "The containers in the root cellar are safe to use for storage and do not respawn. The settlers in Sanctuary will not remove anything stored there, as they cannot travel through cell loading doors." If you have certain mods it may change things, but in a vanilla playthrough you should be safe 👍
+Justin Evans (jevans1137) EXACTLY lol their Kleptomania seems to know no bounds a box that has a lock on it or a door that locks would be sooooo helpful
Thanks so much for this man. I'm set up at the castle and I noticed a whole lot of my guns and ammo were missing. I went thru each of my 26 settlers and got most of my guns back, but I'm still missing 2 guns. This right here will prevent them from stealing again....the bastards!
@@ocularcavity8412 I'm new to fallout 4 but I'm a seasoned veteran fallout player. After having 26hrs into fallout 4 I realized last night. Power Armor is everywhere. I literally have 5 sets of armor now. So if the power armor helps my settlers survive then so be it. Plus the settlers have to sleep so they gotta get out of the suit eventually. Have fun gaming
Just note that even if you do this trick to disable the A.I. pathing to your important belongings' chest(s), placing a crafting workshop or any stores at all with any settlers assigned to any of the stores can cause some settlers to teleport to either one of the viable choice of tools they're trying to access, thus that any invaders happen to attack your settlement, it'll then be easy and convenient for any of the settlers that accessed a crafting workshop or a store to run to a nearest chest full of weapons and armor. I mean, who wouldn't do that? One's eyes see something shining in the distance, we walk towards and claim it.
Do you mean to say that they teleport to the item they are trying to access and then can not get back to the fight because of the gap? Or what do you mean?
Oddly enough, they only stole crappy weapons from my containers. I found 24 un-modded pipe pistols on Sturges, and 12 on Marcy. However, I'm also missing lots of materials. All my concrete, cloth, rubber, copper, circuitry and screws are missing.
Wtf, the bastards. What the hell do they need with mats??? I came here looking for solutions so they don't steal rare items & collectibles. Hell no wonder they will steal them if they steal mats.
I don't understand. I built a very tall mansion for myself and made a room where you can only enter by going into workshop mode and moving the wall so you can get in. But, I still find settlers with 4000 5mm rounds and a mini gun or an alien blaster I don't get it. I'm kicking so many settlers out because of it too
the only ways to keep ur stuff safe are either arming ur settles good enough so they dont need ur stuff or a settlement with no settlers, cuz they also glitch through walls and floors.
Everything I have read, says this simply does not work. You can put your containers 100 meters in the air, and settlers will still be able to access containers. From what I understand, the only truly safe storage in game, would be Home plate - no followers. I also understand that the mechanist lair is safe from this problem as well. Build only robot settlers to populate the lair, and I think you'll be fine. To minimize this issue, never store ammo anywhere. Pack your ammo with you the entire game. The mechanist lair is the better choice, since you will have access to all your crafting materials. So, you can store your actual guns and armor in the lair, have access to all your crafting material that is stored around the commonwealth, w/o constant theft. Sure, upgrading your settlers will be a pain since you'd have to made trips back and forth, but once its done, its done. Remember, settlers will loot attackers and take their guns and ammo if they like them, so you have to be on the watch for that as well. I just took 11 Institute Fusion pistols of my Hangmans alley vendor that already had a fusion laser rifle.......
Suggestion I know you want views and if you say up front this doesn’t work anymore some might not watch but most will not be mad at you like some are now and second you would have to keep telling people it doesn’t work anymore
Just curious but would simply making the “hall end” and using wall caps to shut them also work (basically making boxes to store stuff), i mean youd have to access workshop to pull the cap off but ive never had a settler take anything using that set up
That works as long as the area you've closed off doesn't have anything in it that settlers can interact with. If you've got crafting stations or chairs or anything like that in there, then settlers will sometimes warp into the area to interact with one of those objects despite the area seeming to be inaccessible. I always just make my primary player house on an empty settlement with no settlers. Then you never have to worry about this issue.
I keep my suits of power armor (I usually keep the fusion cores in the suits because taking out the fusion cores and placing them back in would be placing in new ones) at Nate's backyard so that Carla doesn't steal even when Sanctuary's under attack (even though I built walls and junk fences around Sanctuary to keep out raiders and gunners), I also didn't know that settlers can steal your weapons from your containers (I keep all my ammo in my inventory), I also built a prehab with sleeping bags for settlers so that they can stop sleeping in my bed but there's at least one who continues to sleep in my bed (she's a gardener).
I dunno, man. I have/had a personal treehouse home in Sanctuary Hills, and completely removed the only staircase access when i wasn't around to stop settlers from getting in and using my bed or raiding my locker of personal weapons. After work hours, before any of them went to the bar, they ALL hung out in a tight group below my home, many nights in a row, until suddenly they all managed to glitch themselves UP through the floors! My entire home was filled with them, and even I couldn't get in without adding the stairs back. These clowns can't step over that little gap you made, but they can fly through the air and through my floors up into my treehouse. WTF?
playing in survival, got my first fat man from raider near corvega, walk back home to covenant, put it in the box, sleep, raider attack covenant, and spawn near my bed, with doctor Roslyn aimed my fatman. now everytime I woke up I got shot with mini nuke and die. thanks bethesda.
Yeah they are SUPER clepto during attacks. One way to keep them a bit more honest is to leave NO ammo or cores around and then they will only steal melee and weapons that matchbthe ammo they are carrying. Recently I made a slightly more advanced way to keep them out of the downstairs (so they will STOP knocking over stuff and LEAVING DOORS OPEN ALL THE TIME) by using electric doors that can open from the inside or outside with one switch inside and outside but it means walling in the whole building which can be a pain so far they have not been inside at all since I did that
How do you keep them from stealing power armor? One guard I actually wanted to use it got in a bos suit. He had a core if it makes any difference. But somebody stole my x01 I had been pimping out. Ring bell like 5 times nobody shows up wearing it.
to keep them off your armor Remove the power core and make sure there are no power cores in any boxes that they can get their thieving little hands on, btw i notice they ALWAYS go for you best one too if given half a chance damn thieves
Yeah this will work whilst you're their but once you leave settlers can spawn in most places you've built. Best solution is to build a safe room with a powered door and keep everything out of your workbenches.
i recently built a totally enclosed building with electric doors an elevator so they would stop leaving the front door open and knocking over my toy robots and nuka quantum bottles
I've seen a video that did some tests and concluded that once settlers had weapons with at least one mod, they will not go looking for a better one even if it has higher damage. I have not tested this myself.
lol saddest part is the Video is 8 years old and it hadn't gotten any real traction until the last 2 or so years lol Leave it to RU-vid to bury things then randomly uproot them
I left a fat man unprotected and a settler got it and used to protect against a claw thing whatever they're called but instead of blowing it up they blew up the inside of the walls
"Shoots thieving burglar" Which is a law punishable by death if broken, even if by accident when waiting at Power Noddles for vendors to resupply............. rules of the wasteland. Then you remember all your followers are in Sanctuary, as always................
If you mean floor safes they don't work, but if there are new safes added I haven't tried them, At the time I made this Video I do not believe anything other than floor safes were available. One thing I do know that works but it is kind of a pain to build is an electronic Doorway with a Double switch linked to both the inside and outside, I had to do that to my Downstairs to keep the NPC's from coming in and knocking over my carefully placed Toy Robots and Nuka Quantum Bottles, but I have no tested it during an attack yet so far the mutants/raiders haven't showed up in a LONG while
I'm going to have to use this method. I just started a new game and took Preston's group back to Sanctuary. Decided to leave the Laser Musket there until I got some more ammo. Came back a couple of days later and the musket is gone but none of those 5 people have it. No idea what they did with it.
SvenicusGermainus Cool hope it still works I haven't played the game I'm a WHILE and there have been many updates let me know if this is still effective
never had settlers take weapons from my containers. I mean I usually tend to put my containers in the bedroom I use at the settlement or just inside a house Maybe it is more likely to happen if you leave it in containers out in the open. I have never had then take it from the containers near the work bench in Sanctuary. Although to be honest Sanctuary hardly gets attacked in my game
Your mic is worse than the settlers are But thanks for the tip, very helpfull. I found one of those suckers walking around with my alien blaster and another with a fat man + 20 mini nukes -_-
2 layers of concrete foundation thick, just enough room for me, a bed and a storage container and one power armor stand, no door just a solid wall for me to spawn in sleep and get ammo or a different gun, 1 light also and a gen, glitched under the middle fontation, i was gone forever as anyone who plays the game. Gone for days, i fast travel back and ill be damned if there wasnt a npc in my bed. How do you stop this, and i had guns missing.
It's because that after 8 p.m. strikes on the in-game clock, all of your settlers that had any work or none at all will drop everything they're or were doing and go home. Even if you send them back to go to work in a shop, they wouldn't be selling anything to you at all. It's like real life. Stores/restaurants have their closing time at night and wouldn't be able to serve anymore customers so they go straight back to sleep. It all depends on what you're trying to make them do around this time of the night that they'll do something limited, like maybe watching on a Guard Tower, or even commanding them to an accessible tool: chair, workshop, store, container, etc.
This is not enough, NPCs can teleport directly to your chest and loot it, they also can bypass walls, same goes for enemies. You can test this by putting a chemistry station on a roof with no access, you'll still see settlers teleport and use it.
Wow they must have updated i haven't played in a while (recorded this 8 months ago) when i tested this last only companions could get up there by teleporting to you, i will have to do more tests, i will see if i can get raiders or super mutants to attack and see what happens
No clue, I stumbled upon your video because I was looking for an idea to protect containers from looters. I've already tried putting chests on rooftops with no access, unfortunately it didn't stop settlers from teleporting there, I'm currently trying the 4 floors elevator with a platform at the 4th floor, hopefully containers should be out of reach at this height, some settlements are limited to 2-3 stories though...
that was definitely patched in before i made the elaborate catwalk around the house in the video, all i did was put my grenades, ammo and weapons i cared about on the roof (in a spot you couldn't reach from the ground) with stairs that didn't reach (had to do a running jump to make it to the roof)
I've done some testing, my conclusion is that whatever you do, never put ammo and weapons in the SAME container, that seems to be the culprit, even if the containers are next each other, the AI doesn't seem to "know" how to pick a weapon in container1 then ammo in container2. In survival mode you can't keep all your ammo, just store it in a dedicated weapon-free container.
I personally just have a settlement setup as my home with a bunch of robots farming (for the adhesive starch shit) They can’t take my shit, and I get free adhesive. Win win.
This is what I did They took 3 of my best armors some how all 3 followed me into one of the houses I sat down looking at them N pushed 3 hours when I got up all three got out of the suit 😂 collected the suits of course took the fusion cord out build a powered door N hope this works. But let me tell U this it doesn't matter if U take the cord out some how they still get in it. That's Y the door😂🤣
hey man you know you have a flashlight functionality installed in your pip boy right? this would have been a great time to use it. I can barely see shit.
I have no played in a couple years and I only played on PC but I was not able to literally lock the containers but once you properly break the pathfinder the AI should be unable to reach the just make sure you place the container far enough from the path break that they can not reach it
I ACTUALLY said that in the Video, but you obviously didn't watch, so why are you even here?, THIS method allows to just walk to your loot without, jumping, jet pack, opening electric, doors, Placing and replacing walls, or inconvenient Storage Placement
@@ocularcavity8412 did you? Well in that case I apologize. Didn’t mean to offend. Just trying to help. Anyway best wishes to you and I will absolutely take your advice.
I would have really enjoyed this video if I could have seen anything. Please either film during the day or with power on in your settlement or at least you Pip Boy flashlight. Even with my phone screen brightness up all the way, I couldn't see anything.
sorry about the brightness problem but the lights are on in the settlement if it is too dark that is probably because of your phone and or possibly the resolution you are watching at, if you watch on a PC at 720p or above it should be fine but since this is recorded in Native 4K down sampling it too far makes youtube's compression algorithm chew up the video and makes it hard to see but that is unavoidable, i have a Note 3, galaxy 3 and a note 4 and the video is very visible even on the lowest brightness setting. Are you using the RU-vid App or are you just watching it in you web browser? cause youtube on a mobile browser is terrible
Ocular Cavity I am watching on an Android RU-vid app at 720 pps. I did see others commenting that they were having issues seeing what was going on in your video. I could see parts of the video & as I said, I did like the video, I just couldn't see everything. I am sorry if I came off rude at all, I wasn't trying to be. Just giving some constructive criticism(: Keep up the great content!!:D I appreciate you being so polite in your response, btw. I re-read what I wrote & I could see how it may have possibly came as rude & if so, I apologize. --Edited for grammatical errors.
Bastian I am really sorry I am not sure what is causing that but I am unable to brighten it up in post, the point of the video is to leave a small gap between the stairs and the platform you have built on, small enough that you can walk across but big enough the NPC'S can't pathfinder over it, btw i would recommend making that area dedicated to storage no work benches or beds so the AI won't spawn there when you fast travel to town
