California's the source of the infection, eliminate them and all the others will just kinda fizzle out, leaving the innocents they're surrounded by unharmed.
I can picture a mod for the courier to say something along the lines of "Oh hi ED-E! Did you know I've found this AWESOME place called "Portland" up north? Gee wiz, sure is nice up there! Truly my place to be, my home sweet home! *shouting into the canyon* GEE WILLIKERS I SURE HOPE NOTHING BAD HAPPEN TO IT!" as he waltzes into the Divide
I like how they had this weird bad trip dream sequence and instead of actually having it connect to themes of mod or exploring the vanilla story they just made it into an edgy shitpost of a shlocky nightmare you can't help but laugh at.
@Gr8Sc0tt "Exploration of character motivations and how their past connects to general story in narrative that lacks flashbacks? Building up tension by making players experience the fears of their character or others? Going psychological with character questioning their sanity or morale? Nope let's just make it wacky."
I'm confused I don't see what's so bad about this bit, bit glitchy but nothing game breaking. Unless there's more that I can't get unless I've played it? Just watching this section though there didn't seem to be much wrong at all
@Non Filios Tuos Videbis Vacillantes which bit? Can't be arsed to watch it again and it's definitely not the whole thing. Seems more derivitive of some horror films and far cry 3 than bad writing if anything. Is it the dialogue? Yeah it's not the best but I wouldn't generally expect tarantino dialogue from modders. The situation? Bad trip used to make you face your mistakes? Again a little cliche but I dunno, doesn't seem too bad again.
I hope they release a modders resource, some of the things they developed for this mod are amazing and it would be a shame for those tools to be restricted to one mod. edit: a modders resource would be more accessible.
@@okagron New California was pretty fucked but the story at least had a consistent tone going for it (Even if it got ridiculous with the dog shit twist at the end)
@@TrueCobalion new california: here you can join the enclave heck we are explaining why they are in 3 in the first place. frontier: fuck that facist power fantasy.
Thank you for uploading these. I was so disappointed by the shit writing and terrible cinematics (in a gamebryo game, why did they think that was a good idea) as well as a myriad of other things, that I just teleported back to Goodsprings and uninstalled the mod, so I never got to see just how bad this mod became. Spaceships, scaly OCs, "YOU'RE the bad guy!!!" hallucinations and all this other crap. Wow.
this is the ncr path and it's pretty bad in terms of writing (the only character i can remember is tiberius lol) but very impressive in visual and technical aspects, no idea about the legion and crusader one. time will tell if they are shit or not
The Legion quest line is somewhat better writing wise and quest design wise, it’s a shame though that all we got after 7 years was Call of Duty: New Vegas
It's so technically impressive, but the writing and story are just so cringe. Why is there not a single good fallout mod besides gameplay overhaul ones like PN?
@@locomotivebreath9364 yeah Beyond Boulder sucks. Its just a long shooting corridor with bad voiceacting and dialogue. How hard can it be to get a mod done right?
Credit where it's due, from a technical side all the stuff they're able to do with this old engine is nothing short of impressive But jesus fuck what is this writing
Its like someone mixed the absurdity of the dream sequences from the Sopranos and the magic based flashbacks from the Dishonored series with the writing talent of an amateur single digit dev team.
@@jacksonashmolean1035 is a short for "kinography" or a synonym for a word "film" Mates from imageboard use this word for describing best of the best about movies, but Angel Of Death here rather used this word rather sarcastically.
Everyone hated how Lonesome Road forced a backstory on the Courier, so the modders decided that they needed to pile significant amounts of personal guilt and shaming on top of the forced backstory you never wanted when it was first forced upon you. How dare you be subject to our plot contrivances, you are a bad bad man. Some 'The Legendary Courier' you are right? Remember when we called you that? That was -YOUR- ego, and now it's been lampooned by OUR writing, feel pretty stupid don'tcha? I'm amazed they didn't work a 'By installing this mod, you are committing genocide.' in there somewhere, for maximum 4th wall breaking edge.
I already thought Lonesome Roads meta plot was annoying af and didnt fit in with the rest of the game. Guess the devs of the mod thought it was "genius writing" ig. Shoving down personal headcanon down the players throath.
8:26 I have no idea why but this dialogue is the funniest out of the bunch in this entire scene. It's like a 13yo child wrote it. "I did it. I killed the bad guy."
Seeing dark and twisted versions of characters you met in a nightmare actually isn't too bad, dreams can be weird like that. But the execution could've been far better.
Lets just cover every reason this doesn't work - The mod recommends you start at level 11, if you play the game well you may not have even caught up with Benny yet let alone become a Saint of the NCR - Despite this segment which is just trying to A) Repeat the message of Lonesome Road but worse and B) Rip off Spec-Ops: The Line - the rest of the game treats you like a hero of the NCR - Because you're treated like a hero of the NCR and see flashbacks of Hopeville - this pigeonholes what kind of Courier you can really play, you can't logically be a Legion character because you have to start the mod as NCR and now you DEFINETLEY caused the Hopevill Disaster - on top of that, that now makes it difficult to rationalize the Legion/Crusader questlines because you're already pigeonholed into this NCR Courier route - You can't do the 'was killing these people really worth it' in the same story where you've called the enemy faction 'OBJECTIVLEY EVIL' you can either have depth or no depth there's no kiddy pool option in this. - Having the Courier actually 'speak' at you completely remove player agency by making every Courier who plays this mod speak the same one-dimensional hero line, unlike the Old World Blues brain encounter where the brain is clearly separate from your own consciousness
The events of The Frontier mod take place before the events of the Lonesome Road DLC, so why is this sequence referencing events that took place in the Divide prior to the start of the base game? The Courier should not be hallucinating marked men, because he has no idea what they are. It is confirmed during the events of the Lonesome Road DLC that the Courier has no recollection of ever having stepped foot in the Divide, so "Benny" and "Nigel Suh" (projections of the Courier's subconscious) talking about the events that transpired in Hopeville doesn't make any sense. This entire sequence is not only thematically unfitting to the _Fallout_ universe, it's also severely lore-breaking. It should not exist.
The Frontier, especially on side quests, seemed to have a lot going for it. Lots of cool ideas. Lots of stuff that definitely needed more work and bug fixing. Shame that so much misguided and misplaced egotism seems to have defined such a hyped project
The Benny part was pretty good, as someone who had nightmares similar to that, I gotta say it was believable. That said, everything after was a bit...to much.
There's no way I'm playing the mod, but some of those weapons sound pretty nice, particularly the ones at 4:17 and 8:43. I wouldn't mind if someone made standalone versions of them tbh.
you know for a good mod they could have showed hopeville and the people you met in bennys guilt trip but they cheaped out and just put an atomic explosion in the divide horizon.
i was scared because i wearing headphones but then i realized that they were trying so hard to be scary it laughable i played the entire quest just bored and annoyed
God, that was actually cool until the end. I haven't played the mod but I like the bit with Benny, what the fuck is this "hurr durr you're not the hero" shit at the end? New Vegas was never that simple.
I'm not sure the context of this (assuming it's a hallucination) but I think the idea is cool on paper. Again like most things in the mod it just wasn't executed properly.
Does this happen on the NCR path? I gave up on it after you play as wolf pack (Scrtipted linear gameplay just isn't for fallout) and started the second character as Legion. Much better honestly, more freedom more interesting side quests and characters. It feels like they made a Fallout game with the Legion and Crusaders but made a Call of Duty game with the NCR. Too bad many players will first play the NCR path and give up on the whole mod.
@@rostokk2706 Ok so I just read all the stuff about NCR path and America specificaly. So I get why people hate it. Though I Still liked the main quest of the legion. Glad I did not find the lizard people.
My most hated segment of the mod lol. I used console commands to disable the ghost/shadows. Still I gotta say it's very satisfying when you completed this quest. Seen all of my enemy dead and all. And Siren didn't die too in my playthrough. I guess my suicidal tendency kick in lol
Everyone just cannot stop bitching about a mod that they have never actually played. My only real problem with the hallucination sequences is that they drag on too long. The pacing in the NCR questline is totally fucked up.
@@jarskil8862 shouldn't be possible 'to manually rewrite dialogues, names, and all written text, remove voice actors and some of the more degenerate stuff? just put it as "not lore friendly" and you are good to go. even the "stolen assets" aren't a problem when talking about mods.
i mean.. its a cool idea, playing though a nightmare of the couriers fears and past events but more nightmareish.. but like why dose it need to be in this mod..
