Something that should be noted in regards to New California: The campfire dude from the "escaping the vault valley" string of "quests" says that the Survivalists killed 10,000 NCR troops (or 10,000 NCR citizens and troops, it's not entirely clear which) before he "got old" and left the Survivalists. Compare that that to New Vegas: -2 soldiers were killed by the automated security in Helios One and they stopped trying to enter the generator building to prevent further loss of life, in fact they were so concerned about losing more soldiers that they hadn't been able, or maybe didn't even bother trying, to retrieve the bodies of the troopers that were killed -The loss of a single supply caravan of 4 soldiers and 2 pack brahmins heading to Camp Forlorn Hope is considered a massive blow to the NCR's efforts -The Fiends are mentioned as having killed as many as a few dozen NCR troopers and a few rangers in the ruins of West Vegas, and it would appear that this has caused a pretty decent depletion of the available troops at Camp McCarren -NCR patrols are being ambushed by either raider or Legion attack parties and have caused enough destruction and killed enough men that Colonel Hsu is willing to give a random Joe free-access to the military headquarters of the NCR in the Mojave so they can try to find where the leak is coming from -And to top it all off, around 100 troopers and rangers are said to have been killed at the first battle of Hoover Dam, and the NCR builds a goddamn 6 ton stone block monument with the name of each fallen soldier engraved into it, and the loss of all of those men clearly weighs heavily on the NCR officers who were serving in the Mojave at the time, General Lee Oliver being among them New Vegas was very clearly trying to say that the NCR's resources, especially their manpower, was incredibly limited and precious. Nearly every dumb-fuck mod "developer" has never recognized this and acts like the NCR has the manpower and material of the US Army and can throw around men and material willy-nilly and not have to worry about replacing it. New Vegas (vanilla) is really fucking good...it's a shame that nothing that came after was even decent.

I actually went back and found the torture area with the chairs. The NPCs interrogating and hammering you just stand there even though they’re also present on another part of the map. They didn’t even try to hide the area, I just walked past some rubble and saw them standing frozen in place.

Fan fiction is evolving.

The Forgotten City mod for Skyrim shows you just how important strong writing is. It doesn't have any crazy new features and all that, but it still engages you with it's air of mystery and suspicion. This mod is a technical marvel considering what it has managed to do with the old-ass engine, but the disastrous writing overshadows all that and makes you continuously cringe.... Very unfortunate...

24:35 Y'know, this whole "badass team of soldiers" thing might have actually worked out if they were *GASP* ENCLAVE REMNANTS! Like say, some Enclave remnants that got involved fighting on your behalf because while they wanted to help restore America, they didn't jive with the genocidal orders of their superiors and they left the Enclave decades ago, only to help you after they realized that the war was encroaching on their turf. You go off and help a village full of old folks that's at the shadow of a mountain (inside the mountain is a small Enclave bunker stocked with Vertibirds, energy weapons, and power armor) and you befriend them without knowing they're Enclave guys. You get captured by the Legion and crucified, and all of a sudden, some Vertibirds appear and power-armored Enclave troopers pop out of the Vertibirds to rescue your crucified ass. They massacre the enemy, get you down from the cross, and treat your wounds as you wake up back in the village, and they explain who they are. You then get Enclave weapons and power armor, and the village becomes a place for you to rest and trade if you need help.

I feel bad for the voice actors. Imagine putting time in bringing those shitty ass scripts to life, getting paid most likely nothing and then when it finally releases, getting laughed at.

That one dude's dramatic death scene at the end is literally the ending of Red Dead Redemption, except in RDR you actually cared about Marston and the scene carried a lot of actual meaning to the conclusion of his story and all. I think it somehow ripped off Black Hawk Down at the same time, too.

I wanted to mention simple gameplay stuff that they use to break your balls in that bridge sequence alone: - They highly recommend the courier to be at least lvl 20 for the mod meaning he had tons of options to, heal the soldiers, carry them back, fight back or escape captivity. - Courier could have Stonewall perk, which you get at lvl8, and the explosion wouldn't knock him. Same goes for that last kick. - The mines are armed with a twist and a throw, a kid could arm them in three seconds. The mission can be done during the day too, which is just an esxcuse to have better lighting for the npcs. - If you decide to rush the building that is clearly a sniper nest, the mod blows your head like if you were wearing a legion collar. There are no npcs present too so you can't pretend you could put up a fight. - The vertibird that had just passed could've been used for support or an emergency evac, it was supressing fire holding NCR down not necessarilly explosive ordinance. If they guns 'blazing to rescue the courier later, the vertibird crew would've accepted a risky order to stop him from being captured in the first place. - The main chain of legion command was present for an ambush, not only that, they saw the vertibird and decided to approach an exposed spot on the bridge just to rub it in your face. Plus the fact the high-ranking soldiers are easy targets because they use the red feathers that don't blend well in the snow, unlike their low ranking soldiers who dress in a more subtle and smart way. - They give people Pip-Boys so there's no reason some of the soldiers, including The Courier, couldn't have used V.A.T.S. to sweep the area. - They purposely block the entrance to the outpost house and give you no means of investigating the empty NCR outpost for signs of a trap. - The crucifiction is made in a way that if you take the person out of the cross they die. So it's game over right there because the Courier was tortured for hours and made to climb about 8 rows of stairs while being shocked in the ass before the crucifiction. No rescuing there if after all of that you wanted to play the courier as being beatable.

Hunt down the frontier and yes your comparison to hunt down the freeman is spot on, if you make it to the end of the ncr questline you'll see

Really upset with the few times it was mentioned, there are no videos on New California because holy shit. It would be great to actually see some of that game and have it be given it's fair share of shit too, considering so many people are all beating themselves off over how "this is how you tell a story bethesda, 76 bad, the courier with wolverine healing factor good"

As a Jackmormon, I'm rolling my eyes at one of the key things about the church that the game gets wrong: They don't idolize the cross. You'll never see it on any Mormon church or in any art, because Mormons don't view it as a holy symbol.

Yknow, all the weird fetish shit aside, when people were first talking about how the story was terrible, I thought: "Surely not. It's a mod seven years in the making for the greatest RPG ever made. This CANNOT be Hunt Down the Freeman." And yet... holy shit this is bad. I feel bad because I love the idea of The Frontier, almost like a colder version of DUST, where all these factions we know and are familiar with have just been beaten and broken, and everyone is an inch away from death. That's not what this is. This is space battles and terrible, corny writing. I'm so fucking disappointed.

6:40 It's funny because in the lore the war didn't "End" with the Helios One victory. It's still technically going on, just the Brotherhood retreated and the NCR doesn't consider it to be a priority to deal with a couple hundred brotherhood members when the legion is coming to steal their shit.

That Family Guy scene superimposed over the never-ending execution was a stroke of genius.

The animation osmo used when getting his limbs cut off is actually from the base game the NCR soldiers between Nelson and camp forlorn hope that are missing their limbs use that animation. Of course you'll never see the soldiers unless you have the base game without any patches or are using a mod that restores them because obsidian removed them in a patch because they caused stability issues with dead money on consoles.

Technically, its a ground breaking mod. I don't even know how they managed to use NV's engine to its max but they did it! Huge respect to them, but that ends there. Their writers seemed like they picked off of who writes the best fan fic about their fetishes lol. From arriving at the airport, it doesn't make sense how they got this huge fleet of vertibird, tanks and vehicles! Even the NCR president in New Vegas uses a makeshift scavenged vertibird lmao. So much for being lore-friendly and a splinter group. Not only that, but these bunch of reddit devs even forces their politcal ideology unto the mod by saying all who supports Enclave are all trump supporters and a facist power fantasy lol. But you can join the damn Legion and even groom a teenage girl to be your "little sl*ve".

This whole mod is just a really bad fever dream the courier has while having a high amount of psycho, grape, orange and berry mentats, hydra, med-x, turbo, some x-cell and other chems. I think that might even have been the last day of the Courier.

Amazing how the devs clearly watched so much pop culture yet absorbed absolutely NONE of it. It's like watching a robot trying to recreate the scenes from Saving Private Ryan, RDR or Blackhawk Down: it's mechanically very similar in terms of shot composition and characters, but the themes are just completely absent.

The amputated writhing npc animation is actually in the base game, they were cut troopers in the nelson forlorn hope minefield. One had a letter from his brother or lover, and they all ask you to kill them, kind of harrowing

Like on one hand they were doing it for free and all, and i actually enjoyed a lot of the sidequests, the exploration and i guess the crusaders are pretty cool but the storyline is much shorter then the other two, but on the other this video + all the space shit, the hallucinations and the girl that has "I'm legal lol" note on her inv is everything i dislike about the mod, its just not Fallout.

I've been hearing that the people who worked on this mod are now saying that all negative criticism they are receiving is because something like two trans individuals worked on it. Therefore, if you don't like the mod it isn't because it's bad it is because you're transphobic.

I was really keen on playing the frontier, but after seeing this and more of it from other reviewers I've decided it's really not worth my time. Just hearing the condescending dialogue in this mod is bad enough. I hope there's an episode 2 of Four Decent Friends HATE Fallout: The Frontier. Loved the vid

1:50 As someone who comes from a military family (I myself have not served due to disability), THIS pisses me off to NO END. No army, EVER, would paint their uniform as 'feel-good crap', especially a RECRUITER. They are deserters, but they still hold their old name, so having a uniform be relegated to just a throwaway comment is insulting to a group still considering themselves to be an armed force. As a smaller group then their origin, the uniform would mean more. Unity, order, and belonging are not just 'feel-good crap'; they are part of the duty and honor of being in an armed force. With Gray as a character being the guy who is unabashedly loyal and strong to the cause especially for deserters, this would be something he would support and encourage rather then just have as a throwaway comment. And, about the Frontier's NCR design compared to the Mojave NCR? No two armors are similar for the Exiles and the top brass all wears 'unique' not-uniform gear, while the Mojave's at LEAST share silhouettes and their named brass all wear the same available gear. It paints the Exiles as a dissonant group, brass at each others' throats and nobody agrees or cares enough to present a unified group identity. No wonder the Legion and other groups see them as shams. It is infuriating, and I've seen like no discussion on it, and I just finally needed to let it out.

Fallout 3 and New Vegas didn't have cutscenes because the games looked like ass. Even with mods they still look pretty bad. These cutscenes carry the emotional weight of a stop motion Lego video.

Not that anyone is going to see this, but that ugly smg shown at 2:20 was actually stolen from me. It was originally supposed to be a Magpul FMG 9, I created it as part of a mod “Travis’ Weapons Pack’ or some shit back in the day. Someone had messaged me about my involvement with the frontier when it was in early development, specifically citing this gun, stating they saw it in some of their promotional images. I had no involvement and was not asked permission or given credit, they simply shifted the desert camo to a blue colour and called it theirs. I had reached out to the developers insisting they remove it as they did not have my permission to use it in the mod. I never followed up and had completely forgotten until now. Frustrating but not surprising

Ya know after watching the cutscenes, I can see why vanilla New Vegas didn’t have them. It really looks weird and just doesn’t fit with the game at all.

This mod has provided a ton of mechanics and assets for the modding community to MAKE BETTER MODS THAN THIS with. And that's all.

For me it feels like someone that doesn't know anything about military wrote the NCR story, someone that doesn't know anything about Religion wrote the Crusader story, and someone with a crayon on his brain wrote the legion one. It feels like not a single person in this entire project played new vegas. At this point just make the mod for FO4.

I like how in Vegas, they only give you a short slideshow and a video to explain the background of the main game and the dlcs, and the rest you have to piece the rest together by talking to people, reading terminals, using background story telling, you know, GOOD WORLDBUILING! And then in this mod, everything is laid out before you, removing the need for nuance, good design, interesting dialogue, unique characters, and interesting lore. Guess I’ll die then.

The conflict that sets this story in motion, heavily relies on something that didn't happen during Operation: Sunburst. That being: A lot of NCR troops dying for Helios One. Nowhere in New Vegas' story, is it mentioned, to the player, that the NCR suffered major casualties, while fighting the Brotherhood of Steel. It was the Brotherhood being slaughtered, during the battle, not the NCR. The writers are literally make up things up.

23:21. Yeah, I was attempting to force this mod past my tastebuds until this happened. Think about how fucking dumb this is. In New Vegas we see the NCR use ONE vertibird in the whole game, and it's to transport the president. That's how valuable and rare working vetibirds are, that even in the entirety of Fallout 2 we see like, three. Here they have 20, and they squander almost all of them... to rescue a dude they met yesterday. Hell, they have even less reason to view the Courier as a valuable asset because they broke from the NCR before the NCR-Legion war even started.

This mod seems like a mutated amalgamation of so many games and/or movies. So many scenes or npc interactions are ripped from other games, the mw training course, the doctor needing immediate help like the into level to conflict vietnam, the top gun sequence, black hawk down it just goes on and on.
