Today we are reviewing two Nixie watches from a polish brand NIWA. I also used the oportunity to do the tutorial on how to setup and use them.
Nixie tubes, used in the 50's and 60's as a first digital display technology has a perfect retro future and steampunk vibe. The bigger model is actually 55mm which I found out later when measuring them, even though the specs on the site say it is 50. The smaller one, called Lunokhod is more wearable at 42mm but also harder to read.
Both come with a rechargeable battery that takes 3 hour to charge and can hold up to 3 months of wear.
For all those playing Fallout series or Metro games, will feel at home with the look of these!
As usual, stay tuned for the full review!!

I would love it if it would make the bug zapper noise to chime the hours.

Of the mass produced Nixie wearables, Niwa is definitely one of the better designed I’ve seen on the market overall. The only thing that stopped me from getting one was how they sealed the back of the case against the elements. While I see why they have to say splash resistant on the rating (trying to fit a case that big into a seal tester would be a feat in itself), it’d generate some more confidence in the product’s versatility giving a breakdown on the sealing methods, as splash resistant is a vague term in itself and when wearing something in that price range, you’d want some assurance that rain isn’t going to mess up your timepiece with average use

Splash resistance means that some water can get on a watch- like rain or while washing your hands. Back carbon fiber lid is sealed very accurate. within 6 years of production we had only 2 cases when water got inside watch- even it was not water but human sweat- it was like an acid to steel case ( nothing wrong with Titanium cases we make right now).

I have a few tube watches (one from Nixoid, another a 'Nyx' from kickstarter), and even though they all look very similar, the NIWA is the only one I can actually wear as my daily driver for weeks at a time. The build quality is by far the best (hard to go wrong with a titanium case and massive sapphire crystal glass). The battery life is easily 2-3 days of frequent use which is much better then the competition, and makes the watch actually usable. It uses Qi wireless charging, so there's no custom magnetic charging cable to lose. The time is set with magnets, so there's no buttons to clutter the design. The tilt-to-view feature is by far the best (it has to be, because the NIWA has no other way to show the time). It's also extremely reliable and won't randomly reset the time when the battery gets low (unlike my Nixoid...), and in "moon crater titanium", it just looks awesome. I haven't had any issues with moisture ingress through the carbon fibre back, it's sealed up pretty tightly with epoxy resin.

I've ordered the Lunokhod, but I'd like to see Niwa build full numeric Nixie tubes into something smaller than that 50mm beast

Is the accuracy rated by the day like automatic watches or by the month like quartz watches, or not rated at all? Regardless of accuracy, I still think these are awesome watches, I prefer the larger NIWA 2.0 but I still really like the smaller Lunokhod which is also very cool. I am already subscribed to the channel of Dalibor Farny. He had to learn how to make Nixie tubes from scratch and persevered for years until he did it. He is a legend and deserves everything good that happens to him. I hope his business becomes internationally successful and huge, and that Dalibor becomes incredibly wealthy!

I have a G-Shock Question, Have you handled the GW-5000U before and do you think it's worth the extra money over the 5610U ? I'm torn between both and would like to know your opinion
