My favorite this year so far is Shogun. I think I liked 3 body problem a little more than you. I liked Tokyo Vice also. While we are in the subject of Jackie, I hope Yellowjackets can find its way to greatness the next season. I'm going to wstch Ripley now after this one. Thanks for all you do Steve.

I'll have to check out this show. I've been out of shows and have been extremely desperate for a new show for a while. My bar is so low at this point so any thing that is decent is fine with me.

I see that Zach Cherry is in this, which I've already been kinda theorizing. I feel a little more confident that he may be killed in Severance. There were some things, including his sacrifice for the group and his kind of cross pose as he holds the two levers. If that's the case I'm pretty sure it was already set in motion prior to the first season ending and when Stiller came up with what I think was a great idea of leaving us on a cliff hanger, as a result it may have cut off what would have materialized in at the very least innie Dylan getting removed from the equation. At the same time they were on hold with the second season for an extended period of time, so perhaps it's merely a one season thing for Zack, unless this is a one season show? I thought perhaps with the popularity of Dylan that they may have decided to change it, but who knows. I hope they keep it as they originally designed it if in fact that was the original design.

I just have one more episode. I love it so far! I also have never played the game I'll be back to make another comment after I watch em all. The parts in Philly (Filly?) remind me of the town of Tull from The Dark Tower

The first episode was a lot of fun and had the Fallout aesthetics down. It is also a 100% DEI box checking show that's so diverse it actually pulled me right out of the story a few times. The he/she chick thing with a mustache and tits that works for the Brotherhood took me out of the show every time "it" was on screen. I don't really like the Brotherhood Of Steel in the game so that's my least enjoyable part of this show as well. Loved the Ghoul and Lucy was good as well. As a game fan, I'll keep watching.

Yes, the non binary character (which used the they/them pronouns) was pretty damn stupid and jarring, and while the DEI boxes were all checked, I find that the show was actually pretty based at it's core, because they seemed to making fun of the Vault Dwellers, who I saw as modern day SJW types. Vault Tech is definitely a stand in for Blackrock/WEF, what with all of their social engineering programs and plans for the NWO. Lucy wasn't the Mary Sue that they could have made her and The Ghoul was awesome. I liked the BoS costumes and Power Armor, but found Maximus a tad bit weak as one of the main characters. They nailed the aesthetics of the games and stayed pretty close to the lore. Now, knowing the people that made it, I am sure that they meant for Vault Tech and the other shadow factions to have some kind of connection to Trump and MAGA, but they failed because those factions just screamed Blackrock and the WEF to me. All in all it was an enjoyable series, that could have went down the road of The Wheel of Time or Rings of Power, yet managed to stay pretty grounded.

I have not watched but yeah, the music in 3 Body Problem was appropriate I suppose....it just sits there in the background.

Good review. It seems they did the games justice. Ramin Djawadi is very hit or miss for me. I wish they had hired Inon Zur instead, so we could have the complete Fallout experience. I'll be watching the series tonight.

I've been watching one per week and I agree binging would be better. Pretty good show, surprisingly gorish, I had to step away from the screen sometimes.

I'm 3 episodes in and I think I'm liking it. One thing though the show is doing that's annoying the crap out of me, is the overuse of the old fashioned/whimsical music in an attempt to create funny/whimsical moments and just in general. It's the type of joke that shouldn't be used on repeat, because it's just that... the same joke. Also that whimsical realm of music is being used waaaaay too much... and it's extremely unpleasant to listen too for the sake of humor, which isn't even working for me... I'm not sure what others are thinking about it... i don't think I'm being overly critical. It seems to be at odds with what's actually going on, and it's taking the show to a sillier place than it should be.

A lot of people do not get or like the retro music, but its not so much a gimmick as its a staple of the franchise. The future in Fallout is glimpsed from a lens firmly grounded in 1950s aesthetics because that's where their world diverged from ours. In the games you actually hear a lot of these songs because nothing else really came later, and its all they could scrounge from the ruins.

@@dethtongue945 - I agree in that the music doesn't fit. It may have been when their timeline was halted, however the music isn't being played for them, it's being scored for the audience and it's being done a half dozen or so times per episode. It doesn't make any sense. Most shows try to create as much of a realism component as possible, whereas this show is doing everything they can in the editing room to reduce it
@LibertyRapsher

@@dethtongue945 - it improved as the show went on in that they didn't do it as much.. They still used it but in those earlier episodes there was barely a scene where they just allowed the scene to happen without manipulating the scene with old fashioned music and it's nothing new in general... the gimmick of playing whimsical music as tragedy happens is extremely cliche' (not that it can't be reused, the show just overused it). Finally in one of the later episodes when Lucy is at that weird vault, they actually curtailed music to enhance the scene for the first and only time in the show when they were playing trippy music as the people in the vault were stripping naked and doing goofy shyte).

@@LibertyRapsher Not disagreeing with you and dinglebarry so much as pointing out that the old 50's du wop music isn't really a gimmick of the universe. It IS a staple gimmick of movies or TV shows when they use overly perky and upbeat music to counter-point a scene of tragedy or violence. (Show me a mob movie that isn't playing "Still of the Night" when someone gets popped.) So I get how that can be really annoying if that sort of music is not your thing. For my part I actually like old du wop music, but if I had to watch a TV show where every scene was filled with modern Hip Hop I would get annoyed fairly quick so I get it. I was simply trying to point out that the retro music is a core feature of the Fallout franchise so it may be a genuine deal breaker for some people who might otherwise like the show. If your playing these games your character's Pip boy can pick up different radio stations and these songs will be playing CONSTANTLY unless you turn your radio off for better situational awareness.

The music is what it was because the trend, the technology in the plot never progressed beyond that era (old tunes, no rap, no hip hop, no heavy metal, etc.). That's because the innovations in the lore was about weapons of mass destructions and not smaller consumer electronics which consequently pop-culture never had modern music. In short, the use of the music was true to the lore of the game. As you know, not sticking with the lore doesn't attract fans of the franchise for adaptations such as this. In the game, radio contributes to the happiness of the settlement and unfortunately, those are the only music you hear (no Taylor Swift, no Jay-Z, etc.). You can always turn off the sound and watch it with just subtitles just like people turn off the music in games.
