Fallout's Mutant Bears (Yao Guai) Explained 

There was a chinese native girl in my class when I first started playing fallout. I asked her what Yao Guai meant and she simply said "You mean like monster?". I told her "yeah that explains it".

I always assumed it was just a pun of Yogi Bear.

So if there were japanese prisoners instead of Chinese we would be calling these mutated bears Yokai

That scene in the series was great. Serious and showing the fragility of being alone in the post nuclear world. Not even power armor is going to save you.

So YaoGuai is like the Chinese version of Kaiiju, for those who don't know Kaiju originally meant 'Strange Beast' same as YaoGuai

Honestly the bear isn’t as scary as it should be. Death claws are way scarier and stronger in 4 and in 76 there’s so many other beasts but I feel like after 3 and Vegas they kinda fell off. No one fears the bear

I have an idea as to why Fluffy had the rad damage to him, what if he and the doctor both died before the war and after the bombs dropped it radiated Fluffy's corpse?

I always kind of considered them a form of where-bear or where-wolf cross. That sort of thing exists in other Bethesda titles.

Iv played off and on since launch of 76 and got back into it a few weeks ago, I didn't know anything about fluffy till this video but I ran into "son of fluffy" about a week and a half ago as a legendary random encounter. If that was a bug it was pretty impressive

Saw a different type of ghost a week or so, ago. (Usually they're shadow people, or a tiny black spec about the size of a house fly. A 3D shadow not cast against a surface. Less frequently light balls/people.) But about a week or so back, the spirit, itself, was invisible. But it was interacting with a string of LED lights, dimming one, and casting a shadow of black flame. I tried waking up my wife to see it, as it was kinda cool. But she gasped when she awoke and the activity instantly ceased. Never seen a spirit cast a shadow, ever...never mind, a shadow of black flame.

so it's a title that can apply to any of the creatures in Fallout.

What if something like the Chinese did something to create it and it's name is more hinting at the Chinese involvement for it. They where doing a bunch of stuff in fallout world.

The whole origin of the Yao Guai name doesn't make sense. They were supposedly named by Chinese in internment camps BEFORE the Great War. But where were these mutated, irradiated bears coming from BEFORE the Great War, before the bombs dropped and irradiated everything? I mean, there are bears in China, it's not like Chinese people don't know what regular bears are and named them Yao Guai. So where did mutated bears come from before the bombs dropped?

Fallout New Vegas,, The only thing I think about Yao Guai... They have really good meat (no -1 STR) ... Any raw meat eaters here :D

Bears do not live in deserts. All Fallout games in deserts didn't have bears. In 76 all the imaginative writers have been let go and those that replaced them just recolor and rename existing things .

I really consider the theory of Fallout 76 being a huge simulation Because the amount of non-sense that happens in this game is unnatural to every other game

Should have been Radbear. Yao Guai makes zero sense. Why wouldn't wastelands remember what a bear was? Every other rad creature has an American name. Yao Guai makes sense in aFallout China game but not in a USA fallout game.
