I used to work in a mushroom mine. Everyday we would done our hard hats with battery powered headlamps and board the battery powered buggies to where your crew would be picking that day. It definitely was the most unique job I ever had! I can tell you the white button mushrooms that were grown there were grown in a compost like mix not straight up animal poop. Yes, animal poop was part of the compost mixture and if it was not aged enough or mixed in the correct proportions it would result in "disease" growth, which was handled by a different crew (I would work on that crew now and then). Once the mushrooms are picked, trimmed and the picker baskets full, and the designated rooms completed, the buggy full of baskets of mushrooms as well as the crew would head out of the mines, stopping at the skullery to drop off all the mushrooms that were picked. The skullery would sometimes take a summer worker from the picking crew (I was a summer picker so I worked almost every part if the process) to put to work helping processing the mushrooms. Every single mushrooms gets washed in a a HOT temperature disinfectant solution before they ride down a sorter where they get sorted automatically by size. The workers would then tidy up any rough cut stems and would further sort according to how tight the cap is to the gill cover. The mushrooms you get in the store as well as the ones that go to soup factories have been well decontaminated before they reach the store. BTW - I do not eat mushrooms. 😁 🤢
Ummm... It's not a moral It's a morel. Just so y'all know that someone should really have a talk with this presenter because although she does have a nice voice she often mispronounces key foods or culinary terms and that's not good. The moral of the story is that folks are going to make idiots of themselves if they ask about 'moral' mushrooms in a restaurant or a market¡
