At Hopebridge we work with families touched by autism spectrum disorder (ASD) and believe that every child's life matters greatly. Listen to these parents' stories of how they felt when they learned about their autism child's diagnosis and how we are working together to bridge the gap from diagnosis to living.

Girl we’ve all been there pushing the social encounters and then beating ourselves up when we find out that is not how it works for them

Your joy won’t last long. Autism can only be masked temporarily and then burnout happens. Embrace neurodiversity and appreciate the strengths found in those of us on the spectrum. I’m not disabled, I’m differently abled.

You may like referring to yourself as differently abled but most of the disabled community doesn’t. Just wanted to let you know

“Embracing neurodiversity” is not for all. Moderate to severe autistics are really struggling and need profound treatments and support.

@@jeanguerrero8305 You know that doesn’t exist, right? Noone is severely autistic; we all just have different levels of support in different areas.

This is called "masking" before I was diagnosed I would always do this. It won't last long with this abuse...

ABA, is teaching kids tools, not to mask, but to help them learn tools through repatitive training, kearning the antacedenaces, learning what a setting enviroment is, and learning trigger behaviours, it is a real scince. and the therapist are quick to say sometimes ABA does not work for some children. We are now looking at an aba school. we are going to give our son all the support we can give him. Centers like these are often attacked becasue some think that Melt downs and the like are all part of autims and it is natural. If I can teach my son how to regulate himslef and be safe, then I have succeded as a parent.

Let me guess: you’re neurotypical. So you have no idea how aba affects us emotionally. I’m nonverbal, luckily I have sane parents who treated me like a person and not a diseased person in need of curing, and I’m flourishing. But I can’t blame you for your ignorance, just feel glad you’ve never had to mask.

Masking is a very harmful defense mechanism that is caused by constant societal pressure to conform. Constant Masking had been proven to cause ptsd. ABA forces eye contact, stops kids from stimming, and puts kids in bright, colorful spaces. Any benefit is a temporary illusion. Think of it like having a terrible job that you will pretend to like to keep others off your back. now imagine it's 24/7 and you are 6. That's what masking does.

Well I can believe it. My sister in law told me herself that her daughter was a healthy normal baby until she got her mmr shot. And Not to say that ONLY vaccines cause autism.

@@lg.7966 wait are you saying that your son was showing signs of autism at the age of 2
@lg.7966
@lg.7966 2 года назад
@@deannahenry8925 Exactly and even before that he was a very particular baby. We used to joke he was like the princess and the pea, in that he could probably tell there was a pea hidden under several mattresses. Vaccines do not cause autism. Children are born autistic. Its neurology. Their brain doesnt prune synapses the same way a neurotypical brain does. You cant cure it. You can only meet them where they are, and love the crap out of them. That is how they thrive and meet their own potential.
