Like Seth's brand of comedy or not, his love for musicals are infectious as all hell. I legitimately hope he gets involved in Broadway if he has the time.

I think, at least in part, Seth MacFarlane has overextended himself. Unpopular opinion, but I think initially Family Guy was just as funny after it was uncanceled (and my all-time favorite episode aired in 2006), but he got into American Dad, and the Cleveland Show, then movies, and the Orville. If he picked a lane, and really focused on it, I think he'd still be comedy's golden boy. Instead, he's got a lot of half-hearted, preachy crap that's all about the gross-out.
@@KonElKent I mean he probably doesn't have a real choice with any of them. He started it and until the Network let's the show go then he's stuck. He has no choice but to stay.
thats because they used rotoscoping animation (ie tracing an animated character over live action footage) to get that old school high quality animation feel
I love these moments in family guy where Seth MacFarlane expresses his love for old musicals. It’s oddly heart warming for a show thats usually based around dark humor and violence.
This is season 5 back in 07. Sure, it was dark humor, but not the psychotic cesspool of violence it turned to after Seth stopped writing for the show (might be 10 years or so by now).
The moment you realize that the animation they used for Stewie for this ONE scene is smoother than the animation used in the whole series! EDIT: Yes I am well aware that it's rotoscoped but my point still stands.
Chris Paez you are some what correct. How people did those kind of animations back in the day is by filming the live action actor first, then they would draw any cartoon character over the pieces of film to make it look like both characters are there at the same time.
What's great about this is that it isn't just played for a 10 second joke. They adapted pretty much the entire scene from Anchor's Aweigh in full with meticulous detail without any irony or edge. It really shows Seth wanting to pay proper tribute to his musical idols instead of just a quick homage.
I find this a redeeming quality because Seth is extremely overhated IMO. I mean you can’t watch any highly-viewed Family Guy video without someone in the comment section being passive aggressive and dissing the show. Even in this comment section where you got people saying “You can still see Jerry’s reflection.” or more passive aggressively “Wow! The animation is smoother than in the entire show!”
No, it wasn't a prank, they actually corrected this in the commentaries that they could not remove Jerry's reflection due to ruining the actual scene, so they had to actually "draw over" Jerry in every frame and "replace" Jerry with Stewie.

I don't like to disagree with people who also like tap dancers because there are so few of us, but I don't think Donald O'Connor got enough recognition. He was just as good, if not better, than Kelly and x1000 less of a jerk.
I agree with you, Donald O'Connor was amazing too! So underrated. My personal favorite is Fred Astaire, but I also love Gene Kelly and Donald O'Connor, they were great dancers indeed. And what about the Nicholas Brothers? They were just marvelous, but sadly, underrated too.
I love that as cynic as Seth McFarlane is, he is so in love with traditional musical films and old school cartoon character and animations, that this sequence is actually a beautiful innocent piece
There's something truly heartwarming with MacFarlane's team's reverence for the classics. Very cool that people are getting a fresh chance to appreciate Kelly in this day and age.
Nope. We dont care for the picture qulity, its all about the offensive humor. There is plenty of shows like you discribed, wich can fit your taste better
Family Guy is still hand drawn if it was a flash show they would have to always reuse the same backgrounds there are a lot of new locations in each episode.
Fluent animation for family guy. I know this is based off of a film from 1945 but I didn’t think the family guy animators were able to mimic classic hand drawn animation so well.

The original footage was in the Library of Congress, so permission had to be granted. Then it had to be remastered for 2008. THEN Stewie was added in. That's how the upgrade to The Worry Song came to be.
In the audio commentary of the episode Seth MacFarlane said that it was; he said the overlay was difficult enough, but Stewie's reflection was an even bigger problem.
I don't understand why people would dislike this. Like, who are these people and what do they look like? In what kind of situation and mindset do you have to be in to dislike a masterpiece like this!?
When I first saw this on DVD, I used to rewind this. I just couldn't get enough of it and wanted it to keep going. I just love live action animated hybrids.
Funny, I though Family guy was doing a rework of an old movie, adding lyrics and Stewie in just the right places to make it fit.. then I saw the original and realized that its just a copy, but with Stewie instead.
Might just be me, but this scene just embodies what made classic Family Guy so great. Back when they weren't constantly trying to be edgy and could be genuinely entertaining. If this were made in a later season they'd kill this scene by having an out-of-place joke about Kelly kicking Stewie's brains out or something, with like fully graphic detail.
NerdMiGerd Yeah, this was from Season 5. I don’t really consider it classic, since the animation was starting to get stiff and they were already transitioning to darker/edgy humor at this point. But there was some of the old staff left, like Dan Povermire, who kept it balanced.
Michael Mixer Mason I figured it was a bit later on. Eh, I still like seasons 4-6 to be honest, and their Stewie-Brian adventures are still fun. At least, until recently...
NerdMiGerd Don’t get me wrong, I like Seasons 4-6 too, but 4 is the last one I would consider classic. Season 5 is when using shock humor/violence instead of real jokes started becoming a problem, but there were still great scenes like this. The show was still good overall until “The Juice is Loose”, in Season 7, that’s when it all fell apart for me. And I always liked the Stewie/Brian adventures, up until Road to India.
I personally think this scene meant a whole lot to Seth. Seeing his beloved cartoon character dancing in a classic musical with Gene Kelly...I sure would be!
Fun fact, in case you didn’t know the original scene is Jerry from Tom and Jerry dancing with Gene Kelly. In some scenes you can actually still see his reflection in the floor under Stewie
There's something not just wholesome and classic about the musicals in family guy, but it always makes it feel like a show that has everything past present amd future
Every once in a while something comes along in life that just is so precious you wish you could watch it for the first time everyday and be surprised every time
