Michelle Thomas was terrific as Myra. She could have had a brilliant career, she was very talented and beautiful. Too bad she lost a battle to cancer. RIP.
First off, Rest In Power to Michelle Thomas. Secondly, she crushed Laura in EVERY way on that show....AND she LOVED that dude. Steve's willingness to simp Laura with Myra chasin him made absolutely ZERO sense.
To be fair, Steve told Myra a series of times on the show that he simply wasn't interested in her and loves Laura. He never kept her unaware of his feelings, she should've left him alone and found someone who really appreciated her. The problem was that Myra never got the hint, thought Steve was playing hard to get and doubled her efforts. Hence, it was why he was often scared of her and ran for the hills. At the same time, Steve needed Myra because he had to learn how to respect personal boundaries. There were a lot of times in the earlier seasons that he didn't respect Laura's and the other Winslows' personal space and kept invading it, which often got him yelled at. When Steve was told to grow up by her earlier, he didn't take the hint and thought his ways were working. However, when Myra put him through the same stalking and invasion of his own personal space on a much worse scale, he started reflecting on himself. Steve realized that Laura and everyone else were right in the end. He was very annoying with his behavior and needed to do some maturing himself. Myra facilitated Steve's change from annoying nerd to a mature adult because of it. After he agreed to recommit to her at the end of season 6's Paradise Bluff, everything calmed down. Myra started befriending Laura and started fitting in with her group of friends. Steve was less attached to the Winslows because she was keeping him distracted from his own issues with his family and he started growing in his own person. Laura and Steve have a more balanced relationship with each other and have been friends for a long time.
@Garudo she died from stomach cancer on December,23,1998,its really sad cause she refused treatment up until her cancer was deemed terminal, she refused treatment because she was afraid that the treatment would make her infertile, the irony is that she died before she could have children.
Can you believe she was around eight years older than Jaleel and Kellie and yet it did not show at all? God I hated it when I found she passed away not long after the show ended. I liked Myra as a kid, she was funny. R.I.P Michelle Thomas. You were just too good for this world.
Myra was too possessive of Steve and he was put off by her behavior. Plus, he told her a series of times that he's not interested in her whatsoever and he loves Laura with his heart. Myra should've taken the hint the first time, left Steve alone and been with someone who really appreciates her.
They were so perfect together. And it sent such a good message; sometimes dreams don't work out the way you planned, but if you keep your eyes open something better is just around the corner. But then they ruined the message by having him end up with Laura.
But Steve knew all along since kindergarten he and Laura belonged together. It just took Laura 15 years to realize. So Steve got his soulmate in the end. So beautiful!
Steve and Laura had to do a lot of growing up, which was the point of Stefan and Myra. They were meant to give Laura and Steve a respective significant other they could be with.
This scene should have sealed the deal! Steve and Myra were meant to be together! I can't for the life of me wonder why the writers didn't let this relationship happen in the end. It would have made more sense. I get Steve still crushing on Laura to keep the show going but the ending should have happened like this.
The problem is Myra was too possessive of Steve and he was put off by her behavior. He told her a series of times that he's not interested in her whatsoever and he loves Laura with his heart. Myra should've taken the hint the first time, left Steve alone and been with someone who really appreciates her. At the same time, he needed her to see how terribly he's been behaving. Myra facilitated Steve's change from being annoying nerd to being a mature adult by putting him through the same thing that he did to Laura and her family, on a worse scale. He learned to respect personal boundaries and became a better person with her. However, Steve can't entirely ignore Myra's behavior. Case in point season 8's Revenge of the Nerd when she demanded him to marry her after college. He flat out refused, pointing out he's not ready for marriage, she's not respecting his personal space and refuses to put his personal happiness over hers. Steve dumps Myra immediately and she retaliated by tossing Carl's BBQ grill through the Winslow home's kitchen window. This is what made him decide he can't be with someone like her. Just because you have similar interests, don't mean you will have a successful relationship. Steve and Myra are proof of this and had you watched the show carefully, you would see this was the case. Laura and Steve have a more balanced relationship and have been friends since childhood. They were there as each other's support group during rough times. Laura appreciated Steve standing up for her against Willie Fuffner whom was chasing her prospective male dates to the sidelines, got her date with Ted and found her childhood doll in the landfill. She also came through for him in defending him against his peers who didn't understand him and even Eddie who often took their friendship for granted. Laura never forced Steve to change as Stefan nor made him get a makeover in the later seasons. He did it willingly because he was ready to grow up and evolve. Laura appreciated the man Steve was becoming inside and out.
You do now it's just a TV show, in fact the actress Kellie Shanygne Williams (who played Laura Winslow) were actually good friends with Jaleel (who played Steve) during the taping of the show
She actually wanted Laura and Steve to get together after season 3. The producers and White told Williams to be patient because they have Steve and Laura doing some maturing in the later seasons.
All the more reason why I hated this show! No way, and I mean NO FREAKING WAY, I wouldn't had smashed Myra and married her. A woman that freaking fine with everything in common with me!? Yeah no contest
Season 10 was supposed to have Stefan merge back into Steve and giving him a mature appearance and deep voice. Myra would've ended up with a reformed Cornelius because that's what Jaleel White planned for.
