I knew that Steve loved Laura for real when he went to the dump to find Laura’s doll on Christmas Eve. He spent like 16 hours looking for it and brought it back to her. I would have fallen for him right then and there because I would know that he would anything to show his love for me.
"I do love you, I adore you. I worship the rain that waters the grass that grows on the ground you walk on."💖💗 I always remembered that line and I watched this for the first time when I was 6 years old. That is true love and that is how a MAN tells you he loves you 🥰
It hurts when that loves not retuned though. I’ve loved the same gal for 27 years. I stepped aside so she could be happy. I did tell her I loved her though. I still do.
Steve and Laura had to do a lot of growing up, which was the point of Stefan and Myra. They were meant to give Laura and Steve a significant other to be with
That "Why not" at 2:20 had a lot of power in it. Steve was hurt but at the same time fed up. He knew he wanted to give her the world but felt like she didn't want anything from him but didn't want to lose him.
I loved his proposal and the throwback to when he first gave her a ring. Steve finally got the girl he loved and best of all she fell in love with Steve for being himself. Laura could have had Stefan but she chose the real version of who Steve has always been.
Here's what I would've done for the end credits of Pop Goes the Question. Stefan: You did accept Steve's proposal. Laura: I'm sorry, Stefan. We have so much history together. Stefan: You don't have to apologize for this. I understand you can't help who you love. On our last date together, I notice we were drifting apart. Laura: I was so confused at the time and Steve was always there. We had to do a lot of maturing. He was someone I thought had no chance with me, but he was patient and on the persistent side. Stefan: But nowhere near as Myra who never respected his personal space, invaded it and kept stalking him to his extreme terror. I know because I've seen enough to label her a psychopath. (Laura hands the ring back to Stefan.) Laura: I was in love with Steve, you were just the face I needed to see what's in him. Stefan: I know. After how I saw Myra behaved in refusing to let Steve go, I'd rather end things with you on a mature level. Maybe one day I will find my special someone in my life and one I can love with all my heart.
@@ladyfire44 Ah. Good point. But it's true they have drifted apart in Season 9. He even said when him and Laura were kissing it's not much passion anymore. But Laura got bored, Stefan wasn't necessary anymore.
From elementary school to adulthood. Steve always loved Laura unconditionally no matter what happened. Once she finally matured enough to see it. They were perfect for each other.
I’m glad they finally got together, but in my humble but accurate opinion they should have done this in season 8. Especially after prom night you could tell something was going on. They should have built it up from there but they never followed up on it. Bad writing on their part. And for those that think steve manipulated Laura or just wore her down, you don’t understand that steve never took advantage of her, never forced anything on her, was always there for her. Their friendship grew over time and eventually became romantic. She cared for him way before this season. If you go back to season 4 you could tell that she seriously cared for him especially when he didn’t come around for a couple of weeks she started to miss him. That was when she realized but didn’t know it, that she didn’t like him not being there. Almost like she couldn’t see herself without him… even then. Myra and steve had a lot of similar interests but did not have the same values. Myra actually was manipulating and she actually did stalk him. Steve and Laura might not of had the same interests but they shared the same values. Values are more important. Me and my wife have very different interests but share the same values. In the end that’s what matters.
That wedding dress she had, is stalker syndrome. She didn't listen to Steve when he said, Laura first and she keeps pushing marriage on him. Let a man be a man
IMO Laura has always been in love with Steve. Now she's just mature enough to deal with her true feelings. Besides marrying a genius ain't a bad thing. The whole time Steve's talking Laura is looking like, "Dude you ain't goin' nowhere!" And when she said, "How can you just leave? You told me you love me." She was basically telling him I don't want you to go. I want you to stay and keep loving me b/c I love you. I wish we could have gotten a farewell season.
I think he wanted to hear it from her. I am sure he had no doubts about her love and commitment to him. I only wish we got even a small glimpse of their wedding but I can imagine it was super romantic.
Michelle Thomas’ Illness killed the show. The Cast Decided Not to go forward with a 10th season when they learned how terminally ill she was. Kellie Williams said it was rough taping new episodes when they all secretly knew why Myra wasn’t going to return or get a proper sendoff. “I remember when we got word that Chelle was very sick and that her condition had started to deteriorate. We were wrapping up taping of Season 9, it was so Sad. We were all somber and I remember crying for her. An Emergency Meeting was called and a vote was made whether to go forward with a S10 with Myra being completely written out or just throw in the towel and call it a day for the show. We All loved Michelle Thomas too much to do such an insensitive thing to her character, so a 15-0 vote was called and we all voted “Nay” to continuing without her, ultimately deciding to pack it all up and call it a day ending a 9 year run”.~Kellie Williams 2014.
He spent 15 years chasing the love of one woman…no matter how he felt about Myra, he let know out the gate that his desire and heart was to be with Laura!!! He’s true testament of patience….hands down this is the best TV show ever
Myra should've known better and left him alone the moment Steve told her that he wasn't interested in her from the beginning. Nope, she kept pursuing the matter because she believed that they were meant to be together.
@@ladyfire44 Though she did help Steve learn about people's privacy and that but other than that I believe she holds him back and expects him to stay a boy trapped in a man's body forever. Laura at least wants him to mature. Steve was still the same he just changed suspenders she couldn't stand the fact he changed.
Family Matters is EASILY my MOST FAVORITE comedy series EVER. The chase of Laura by Steve is such a ride. I’m so glad it ended perfectly!!!!! And yes, even now, decades later, certain scenes still fill my eyes with tears!!!!
If the season 10 and final season would've happen, Steve and Laura would have a wedding, have a honeymoon in Hawaii, Laura become pregnant, Stefan merge back to Steve, have a daughter in the final episode, and live happily ever after. Since Eddie is a police officer and he would married to Greta. Maxine would reunite with Waldo and get married. Myra would definitely go out with Cornelius Eugene Urkel (formerly Original Gangsta Dawg) since Stefan disappeared (merged with Steve). Ritchie would move back to Rachel in full time. 3J would return to his birth mother with second chance. As for Carl and Harriette, they still happily married.
That's not true. They had been dating for awhile at this point. Stephan also proposed to Laura and Steve assumed she would say yes to Stephan over him.
I can tell by the comments many didn't watch the later seasons. Laura and Steve developed a friendship throughout the show that led into a romantic one. People act like she was mean to him the entire show or that Steve always stalked/harassed her. Also, Steve was not a rebound. Both Stefan and Steve proposed to Laura the same night, but she picked Steve.
I can tell that you don't know what real love is. Steve is a rebound guy who is obsessed with Laura. Myra loved him and accepted him for who he is, Laura treats Steve like trash and then waits until all of her options of men run out just to get Steve to be her back up plan. Plus he puts Laura on the pedestal while disregarding Myra, Steve is a sucker and I bet those are the caliber of people that you're used to dealing with. Ain't no damn way on God's green earth that I'll ever be a woman's rebound guy, I'll never be stand in for a fool. 💯
@@RudolphManor So, I bet that is your way of saying that real love would never have a beautiful woman like Laura pick a 'nerd' or 'dork' like Steve. In case you forgot the memo, it is common knowledge that 'nerds' and 'dorks' are the nicest people you will ever meet, most of which being successful during adulthood. Besides, it is not just your body, behavior or looks that counts. Love is also about having a good heart and a good mind. That is what REAL and TRUE love is all about. Steve was NOT a rebound. If he was, then Laura would have indeed picked Stefan instead of Steve. She didn't, meaning that Laura cared more about Steve than she would like to admit. This scene proves that real love comes in all shapes and sizes. Love always find its way and in most cases unexpected too. I am pretty sure situations like this scene happens in real life as well. And more than you know. So, try not to judge the book by its cover next time around...
Yes I love this episode! Both Steve & Stephan proposed to her! She accepted Steve’s proposal.. I love it! He finally gets the girl if his dream! Myra was a rebound because he always loved Laura since a young git..
For those saying It should’ve been Myra: Think about this: Steve invested a lot of time trying to win Laura, as well as the fact that when Steves parents move to Russia, Carl became a father figure to him, plus Steve gave them a trip to Disney (which by 90s standards wasn’t cheap) and Steve has saved Carl’s life more than he maimed him, so that along with constantly seeing him throughout her childhood, he endeared himself to them, and he became like family to them. Steve did whatever it took to make her happy, and every time Steve changed into Stefan, Laura preferred Steve. This coupled with his willingness to improve, cast him in a more desirable light. In regards to Myra: yes, they had a great deal in common, but the minute he decides to not be with her, she bugs his glasses and stalks him.
These two Laura Winslow and Steve Urkel went from being Best friends since kindergarten in 1981 to lovers Steve Urkel has always treated Laura Winslow with respect
She always liked Steve. His antics and her wanting to be with the in crowd kept them apart. She wasn’t a mean person. She was blunt. And whenever she went too far, she would always make it right. She was mean to him out of frustration. Her heart wanted what her head didn’t. Listen to the exchange between them while on that balcony at the prom. Look at her body language. In that moment, she looked upon him with love in her eyes.
To be fair; EVERYONE was annoyed by his antics, including his own family, who simply turned his back on him (including his cousin Julie from Full House). The only ones who cared about Steve was Laura and her family, who - albeit reluctantly at first - even allowed him to stay and live in their house despite everything. If they didn't, then Steve would be alone with no where else to go, which would be kinda sad now that I think about it...
Myra did some good in Steve's life in Season 5 and the later seasons. People often forget that she played an important role in his maturing. Even Stefan taught Laura a life lesson in his first appearance, Dr. Urkel and Mr. Cool. Had Myra not been introduced midway season 4 and became possessive of Steve at the end of Buds 'n' Buns, he would never made those changes in his personality and remained a stalker. By having him endure life as the Winslow's in stalking him relentlessly and invading his personal space, she taught him a hard lesson in respecting personal space. Myra took it a step further by forcibly having sex with Steve in his locker(post credit of Like a Virgin) and spying on him by drawing him naked in his room(beginning of Nunsense) to ensure the lesson stuck. In the end, he learned a hard lesson in respecting personal boundaries and realized how annoying he was to everyone in general. Steve accepted that he had a lot of growing up to do and started maturing. When he agreed to go steady with Myra at the end of Paradise Bluff, she calmed down considerably and started maturing as well. She began fitting in with Laura and her friends more. Steve was less attached to the Winslow family because Myra kept him distracted from his family issues with his parents When Stefan first appeared, Laura was immediately smitten by him because he was cool and suave However, when his narcissistic and arrogant traits came out fueled by a lack of concern for Carl when his partner go shot, she began to be annoyed by him. Once Stefan started insulting Steve, Laura got fed up and told him off about how she felt. She told him off to return as Steve at once, pointing out that although annoying, he has been considerate, compassionate and caring of others needs. Only then, Stefan realized that he hurt Laura's feelings with his behavior. He agreed to go back as Steve by eating a tablet serving as the antidote. After returning as himself, she was so happy to see him again. Laura claims she never wanted to see Stefan again. Steve reassures her that he can begin work on improving his alter-ego immediately. In between Dr. Urkel and Mr. Cool to Stefan Returns, he did diagnostic testing on his Cool Serum and discovered flaws in it. It not only suppressed his nerdy side, but also didn't retain his caring traits and it caused some uncomfortable rashes in his personal parts. Thus, Steve began working on ways to mitigate that. For a while, Laura forgot about Stefan, but not the lessons she learned. She became careful dating guys who don't have her best interest at heart, more mindful in not going based on their appearance and get to know them first. When Maxine finally asked about if Steve could bring back Stefan in Stefan Returns, Laura was very reluctant to ask. This is because of what she went through with him and his arrogance is why she never asked for his return. After Maxine's convincing Laura finally asked Steve to bring Stefan back. By this time, he had completed the task. He upgraded his Cool Juice with Boss Sauce(which would help maintain Steve's caring traits and tone down the arrogant ones) and a transformation chamber made out of an unused port-a-potty(to cut don on those rashes form personal parts). Stefan returns still cool, but more considerate and kinder to others. By the time season 9 rolled around there was no need to keep Stefan and Myra around because they did their job to help Steve and Laura mature.
That is my real life story my girl could not stand me but I told her one day we were going to get married I met her when we were 9 I moved from the neighborhood didn't see her for years we were both still in the same city one day I was going to a tournament but my mom wanted to go to the store before so we did she was in there so long I finally went in and she told me your girl is in here I didn't know who but I found her we talked and caught up talked about old times and I told her if she was ever in my neighborhood to come see me anytime not that weekend but the next one she did and we been together ever since that was 21 years ago stories like Laura and Steve's really do happen.
I wouldn’t say wearing her down it was just the fact that Laura had to stop playing herself and embraced her feelings for him relationships are about sacrifices she sacrificed being out of her element just to prove her love and feelings for Steve they pushed each other to get better people love to holler Myra and Steve just because they share the same qualities as nerds and geeks but that’s not always the case during they’re relationship they had some great moments as couples but ask yourself this what has Myra sacrificed to prove her love to Steve
Only thing missing on this episode was a montage of clips of their past..they showed several photos of them from over the years after she accepted his proposal
He was wearing her down and finally got her, 15 years and never turned away or gave up on the love of his life, Steve and Laura together are so much better than Stefan and Laura in my opinion, no other man in that whole series loves Laura more then Steve, Laura brings the best out of Steve, she's his best motivation to keep going
Scene was perfect in every aspect. Laura was forced to come out of her shell and admit to Steve that she loves him..now or never. She looked so uncomfortable doing so..but had no choice fess up or hes gone. Very well acted by Jaleel and Kellie
It's actually well written, years Steve got rejected and got thrown out...when he throws himself out because he got so used to it, Laura begs him not to leave
Yep deep down Steve is the guy everyone needs. He may be a but clumsy and sometimes embarrassing to be around to some people but he really is someone you can trust and count on him.
I grew up watching Family Matters (I'm 35 now) and as a kid I never really paid attention to the relationship dynamic between Steve and Laura. I just started rewatching the show and I love how their relationship grows. The first few seasons you can see how Laura can't stand Steve. She tells him from the start that she has no feelings for him. When Myra was introduced in season 4 I thought she was adorable. But she is also extremely toxic. She stalks Steve and only has her interests at heart. When Stefan is introduced people went crazy for him. As did Laura. But she only saw him for his looks and he didn't have any depth. Now, I love that Steve improved on the character of Stefan but he was still not my favorite. I love how Steve and Laura grew up together. How their feelings matured and how Laura finally understands that she's always loved Steve. He never gave up on her and she pushed him to be better. They are meant to be
These 2 characters in this series really shows what true love is & the pain that suffer when one of them leaves forever by understanding who is better for that person ❤😢
My opinion. Steve chose right. It would have been a big blunder on his behalf if he chose Myra. Myra falls under the category of people who come out as loving, tender, gentle but deep down their character sucks, she's a faker. This shown by her outrageous treatment to Laura who did nothing to her whatsoever. Whilst Laura comes out harsh, stuck up but her character is impeccable, kind, genuine, honest and loving deep down (the type of woman any man would be happy to marry) These two are literal definitions of don't judge a book by its cover. A book may have an undesirable cover but have good content within it(Laura) while another may have the most alluring cover but have bad content (Myra) The only one that can distinguish between the good and bad book is the one who reads them both. And Steve read them both and saw that the first book (Laura) is the one hell like to read for the rest of his life. in my opinion Laura does more for Steve than Myra ever did/could. All Myra did was give the boy Romantic, Sexual, physical attraction and erotism but has not shown/proven her love for him. When Steve decides to improve himself, instead of proving/showing her love for him by supporting him as she should as a loving girlfriend , she instead dumps him because she finds herself less and less attracted to him. when she imposes marriage after college to Steve and Steve ask for a bit of control and some breathing room because she is taking too much control in the relationship she dumps him because she doesn't get her way, I generally believe she likes nerds because they give her the opportunity to be in control, because nerds are characterized with frailty, they are perfect specimen for her . One important thing Ted (Myra's cousin ) said when he told Laura about Myra was that she has a attraction to nerds, so when Steve stops being a stereotypical nerd (the kind she is attracted to), she dumps him because she lost the attraction. Ppl say, but she came back for him. No. She came back to beg him not because she realized her wrong but so he could return to his former 'attractive' self and for Steve to beg for forgiveness for literally wanting to improve himself . If someone is trying to change Steve its Myra not Laura. Attraction is different from Love, a person may have an attraction to you, be it sexually, Romantically, physically e.t.c, but it doesn't necessarily mean they love you . Laura proved her Love for Steve throughout the series. Whenever Steve needs someone by his side it's always Laura who shows up not Myra. Whenever Steve needs advice on important issues it's Laura not Myra.whenever Steve needs someone to lift him up when he is feeling down Laura shows up not Myra. 9/10 times someone stands up for Steve it's Laura and not Myra. When it comes to listening to Steve Laura always gives Steve her full attention and acts on what ge saiys whilst Myra does not. Laura nvr forces or imposes her will on Steve but Myra does. When it maters the most Laura is always there for Steve not Myra. Laura may have not been attracted to Steve earlier on but she loved him, but Myra was attracted to Steve but didn't love him she has consistently failed to prove her love for him throughout their entire relationship. though I agree Laura does say some mean things to Steve earlier on, but she always acknowledged her wrong doing and apologized for them, for me that shows great character.i always see comments about the mean things she did but nvr about the fact that she would always sincerely apologize/make up for them( all the time) she could be like Myra who nvr takes the blame and blames others for things she caused, like when she blamed Laura that Steve had refused to take her back but she is the one who dumped him Additional reasons why Laura is the 'ONE' for Steve 1) Their values, principles are the same or converge in some way or another while all Steve and Myra share are common interests. Common interests can only sustain a relationship /marriage for so long it wouldn't have lasted 2)Chemistry, Steve and Laura's chemistry is mind bugging.Myra and Steve's chemistry is almost non-existent 3)Their relationship is mostly about what Myra wants, instead of what both Myra and Steve want. She always wants to get her way for example when she dumps Steve and her reason for that according her was for Steve to apologize for improving himself( becoming less of a stereotypical nerd) and for him to return to the way she is attracted to him(for me this is not Love, showing someone that you are physically, sexually attracted to them doesn't mean you love them ).you don't put the one you love in such egocentric 'Charades' that Myra put Steve through. Laura doest do this she is always straight forward and honest with this dude 4) OH YEAH, LEST I FORGET - THE GIRL IS A NUT JOB!!! (Myra).
This is a top tier comment. I love how you see the nuances and underlying aspects of the writing. It’s always interesting how fooled viewers are by Myra and how they don’t really understand her character. While I like Myra, I don’t understand how people say she was better for Steve. You perfectly explain why she wasn’t Steve’s ideal mate. She and Steve may have shared common interests, but they never shared the same values.
This episode made me cried he tried for so many years he finally got her the show should of ended where they got married I didn't like how they ended the show.
Ugh 🥰🥰🥰 those words Steve said always gets me lol. I’m like you betta say it boy this was the most touching episode ever. Yeah Stefan was cool and probably better looking but, what makes you cool is being your authentic self. I really wish we could’ve had 2 more episodes on season 9 so we could witness their wedding.
She made the wrong decision. Not even 2 years later she cheated on him and she was the one who broke things off. She realized she loved him, but not the way that she thought he deserved.
It takes a God-like amount of courage and sacrifice to be willing to let someone you love go in order to give them a chance to be happy. What Steve didn't realize was that Laura could never be truly happy again in her life if Steve wasn't in it. In spite of their rocky, mostly one-sided relationship up until that season, Steve has always been such a central and important figure in Laura's life, as much as her own family. His unwavering, unconditional love and support for her has never failed her. From when he offered to drive her to her cheerleading camp after she overslept. Or when he spent 16 hours searching through a junkyard looking for her doll on Christmas in the freezing snow. Or tutoring her boyfriend in Algebra so that he can pass and play on the basketball team, despite the despair and pain it would cause him. Or setting her up with Ted for Homecoming because that's who Laura wanted to go with, even though Steve hated it for reasons obvious and it caused him further despair and pain. Time and time again, he always put her first. And that didn't go unnoticed by Laura. That's why she eventually fell in love with him as much as he was in love with her. And the fact that Steve was about to do it again here, and for the last time, effectively ending his hopes and dreams of being with her, just so Laura can have a happy life (or so he thought), was the straw that broke the camel's back for Laura. Remembering all those times Steve was there for her made her realize she could never picture her life without him in it... Or rather, she DIDN'T WANT TO picture her life without him in it because to lose someone as important and dear to her as Steve would have absolutely broken Laura's heart. And it's RIGHT THERE, when she realized how much she loves and adores him and wants to be with him. As such, when you let go of that someone you love so they can be happy, only for them to come running back to you by their own choice because they can't and don't want to let YOU go and want to be with you. THAT is True Love.
People that are big fans of Myra and Steve needs to realize something just because you share the same qualities don’t mean that you’re right for each other always the relationship was based on what Myra wanted Laura was never liked that all she wanted Steve to do was better himself Hell he helped her better herself she was willing to step out her element just to prove her love to Steve she was stubborn and challenging but they were there for each other when it counted that’s what relationships and marriage is about sacrifice what did Myra really sacrifice for him Laura sacrificed a lot for Steve and she would never let nobody play with him or hurt him she could be mad at him but let someone talk about him and watch she act up and don’t get it twisted may the beautiful Michelle Thomas Rest In heaven the way Jaleel talks about her she was the person you fell in love with in real life but as far as her character they were never never going to be a real relationship couple
Steve and Laura did a lot for each other, and sometimes without the other person realizing it. Love requires sacrifice, and they had plenty of that on both sides. In the end, that will allow them to have a great marriage no matter what life throws their way.
The problem is that they will always continue to believe that Laura was wrong for Steve and he should've been with Myra. They aren't going to change their minds about it no matter how much you speak the truth. Myra's behavior was toxic to begin with and Steve couldn't deal with it. That's not a basis for a healthy relationship. Myra's possessive and jealous behavior always got the better of her. Steve had flat out told her that he wasn't interested in her from the start. Myra should've known better, accepted that reality and left him alone afterwards. At times, she has shown how similar she is to Myrtle when she doesn't get her way. Myra kept trying to force herself on Steve and not respecting personal space. He couldn't deal with such disrespect because it showed what she's truly like inside. If Myra had truly loved Steve, she wouldn't been behaving so immaturely and trusted him. She was a commitment control freak who wasn't willing to sacrifice her own wants and needs to make him happy.
At the end of the proposal episode, there is a short compilation of laura and steve's love moments in earlier seasons. You never really thought they were actually going to marry but when you look at it, you see they were soulmates all along 😍
This was a well executed ultimatum, and one would assume Urkel of all people wouldn't have the leverage to pull it off. Halfway out the door, Laura what are you trying to say? Bam, mission accomplished, clone defeated.
Even though this show was aimed at black viewers, alot of other families enjoyed this show. Steve urkel turned this show into what it was and how it ended. This show wasn't just a show, it was an extention of my family and many others around the country that brought every emotion to the table at just the right time. The ending was a perfect way to go.
Anyone deserves to have someone like Steve to love you the way he does. thats the real meaning of the perfect person for you. i love this scene it always makes me tear up. when i see someone hurting from a relationship gone bad i always wish they will find the right GUY/WOMAN for them. Just remember there is always someone out there that was made just for you. If you look hard enough you will find them..
I get that most people still feel that Steve should’ve remained with Myra but I personally feel like else that they ending to Steve and Laura’s feelings, how they grown and matured over seasons passed for it’s demonstrates how much Laura truly came to love and care for Steve and how much the Winslow have come to accept him as full time member of the family plus, If her actress Michelle Thomas hadn’t passed months after season 9 than we would’ve got to see the rest of her story when Myra finally (and truly) relinquishes her love for Steve at his and Laura's wedding along giving them both her blessings that she soon moves on to the next “Urkel” which happens to be none other than Steve’s street punk cousin from Detroit, Cornelius “OGD” Eugene Urkel😅.
I'll never forget how I felt about this moment, throughout all the seasons Laura would not budge on giving the homie Steve a chance n when she finally agreed to marry him bc her love for him deep down could not fathom going on life itself without him was so powerful
I never thought it would ruin the show. I was just thinking that the reboot, if it’s gonna happen should start with Laura and Steve becoming a real relationship. That would be a good way for them to finally have some fun after all the times Laura wasn’t interested in him.
I never watched Family Matters(don't judge) so I'm seeing this for the first time. What a beautiful moment, though I probably would have enjoyed it more if the camera person was not riding a unicycle while recording it.
