We put 6 people in the Tesla Model X Plaid and race the quickest Porsche currently in production, the Porsche 992 Turbo S down the 1/4 mile. #tesla #porsche #racing
Model X about to start a family so it's easier for child seats it's faster cheaper and autopilot is a godsend on the highway. It really is almost perfect
I'll takr Turbo S because it's built better and it can handle way better But if Tesla it had little better interior and rounded steering wheel I'll take it
@@hollowtips223 not the batteries, its the plaid motors that are carbon wrapped. it allows for the magnets in the rotor to spin at higher rpm without disassembling. flat hp/tq at any mph due to the carbon wrapped motors gives them a huge advantage over the old performance models which fell on their face after 80-100mph
Holy crap it’s almost unbelievable seeing the model X pulling on the turbo S at the top end even with the Porsche having the lead. Didn’t expect to see that. A stock, 6 seater SUV handing it to one of the greatest cars on the planet. What a strange time we live in lol
You do understand that there is a 450 hp difference, right; and a whole more torque to surpass the weight difference. The model X plaid has been measured in a dyno at 1100+ hp It is no surprise
@@sbske1 you do understand that with the extra 400 HP is also a 3000+ lb extra weight? weight matters too lol. Model x stock is 5600 lbs, now with 6 it's a fair bit over 6000 lbs while turbo S is pegged at a bit over 3500 lbs
@@thedumbconspirator4956 and that is exactly what 450 more hp can do. Move more mass easier. Especially if the 450 more hp are electric hp. My point is that he should compare apples with apples. Power wise tesla model X plaid is in another league compared to a 992 turbo s. A more proper race is the next one versus the sf90 ferrari. But it is clear all those years that I watch dragtimes that brooks selects the races and the pairs to give him the best possible chances to win.
@@sbske1 *views. The most views. FIFY. He could’ve easily also done this video against a ford gt. Or insert supercar here. It really wouldn’t have mattered.
This just boggles my mind man. That Model X was full! And the Porsche had the better start! And it’s the EV that finishes stronger at the top end??? What a crazy video and oh how much this puts into perspective why manufacturers are pushing EVs so hard.
Though I don't think +$100k EVs are going to fly out of the production line like hot cakes, no matter how much pushing the auto manufacturers put on it.
It was a fun/cool race, something different from what we usually see on this channel I'll give you that, but surprising or upsetting? No. You have to realize 1/4 mile is the perfect grounds for any 1000+hp electric vehicle. Full torque at zero RPM, 3 motors and short burst of power as to not overheat the batteries.
@@nighthawk0077 Still a big a.. minivan with 6 people in it beating a Turbo S with one person. No matter the distance or circumstances. What will the excuses be with a lightweight 1400 hp roadster beating ICE in one mile races? "Oh 1 mile is the perfect grounds for 1000+ hp electric vehicle" bla bla 😂😂😂 like come on man just accept it
@@nighthawk0077 These plaid motors are wrapped in carbon fiber weave in high tension from a specialized built machine from tesla subsidiary in germany which allows the rotors to spin at extremely high rpm consistently without dismantling. The batteries have some insane cooling properties and beefed up heat pumps to consistently keep them cool. The S plaid set the EV record at the nurburgring. Its capable of sustaining that power for way more than short bursts unlike the mach e gt performance which only allows peak power for 5 seconds. Tesla engineers created an absolute marvel of engineering with this plaid.
@@stennordenmalm1735 Ah Yes comparing "the ring" or any track for that matter. As if are just as common to race on as literally every streetlight and highway straightaway you come across.
@@doaudi1720 641hp vs 1020hp is not double. It is 60% more hp but weighs over 75% more. The reason why the Model X won is due to being able to instantly put torque down and sustain that peak HP.
Kind of refreshing to see electric go from low end torque choking up top against ice, to having more to go on the top end and pulling harder than ever!
Previous models had to limit the top speed so the rotor basically didn't fly apart at the high end. Carbon fiber wrapped rotors on the Plaid now allow absurd RPMs and horsepower with no need for a second gear. Other OEMs will probably follow suit.... eventually.
Yep that one was of the biggest downfalls of EVs in the past. They had instant torque but lacked so hard at the top end. The plaid models just keep pulling all the way to the top end it’s absolutely crazy to see. When the Porsche had the start I thought it was done for, had no idea the model X could pull that hard at 140+ mph
@@HodgePodgeProducts it has more to do with the heat. previous rotor losses power due to over heat on high RPM, the rotor will lose magnetic in high temperature. The carbon fiber wrapped rotor solved this issue.
@@zyxt9117 carbon fiber wrap has nothing to do with heat... Carbon fiber is a very poor conductor of heat. It's purely for structural purposes. There were some other improvements to the cooling systems though.
@@philorgneopolotin8762 Interestingly enough, the past only includes the last few years and a handful of vehicles. When we look 20, 50, 100 years into the future of development, across multiple brands, things are going to get very interesting.
No, not if you know how Power works. The weight isn't the Problem if you want to go fast at the top end. Many people think less weight is fast, but it helps on the start, what you see by the way, and cornering, brakinh, but not at the top end. The top end is only power, drag coeffiency and the gearing. Yes even Tesla have a gearing.
straight line speed doesn't not equal total performance. In the U.S it does at least. Electric cars should be fast/quick regardless. Look at the lucid air. Its new to the game and already putting out good numbers. Not really impressive for Electric cars. Meanwhile Porsche, bmw and Mercedes are fast in a straight line but killing it on the track too. Braking, streering, body control and all. Performance is the total package. How good of an athlete the car is. If that makes sense.
@@lloydbonafide3398 wait you are saying that it's not impressive for a full size SUV fully loaded with 6 people to go low 10's? You are clowning. EV or not
@@Boomboom-ox9hn I remembered too that Plaid was $130k , a family sedan.. and Nevera was $2.3 million it's only 150 in number and only for millionaires and billionaires..
@DragTimes Just ordered a Model X Plaid for the wife. But if you ever come back to Texas your welcome to use it again. Shoot maybe me and Mike will drive the Plaids to Florida for FL2K22....🤔 Awesome video as always
@@bernhard.k Offcourse weight is important. Weight doesnt affect topspeed but it does affect acceleration. As long as you are driving under your topspeed, you are accelerating to it. The plaid shouldnt pull on the Porsche at those speeds
@@tuurschellekens5385 the plaid have more hp, dynos already prove that. It s mor 1100 hp then 1020 hp. But ok, if you compare the cars with and without people with 80 kg. Turbo s 1715 kg 650 hp PtW= 2,64 Turbo S 1 P 1795 kg 650 hp PtW= 2,76 X Plaid 2455 kg 1020 hp PtW= 2,4 X Plaid 6 P = 2935 kg 1020 hp PtW = 2,87 The Power to weight ratio is even with the 6 people, nearly the same. But for straight line the power of the plaid is more and the drag coefficency is better.
Not that Embarrassing lol. It's just built for Drag racing in a Straight line. That Turbo s would walk this X Plaid around Laguna Seca or any Track. Still was Fun to watch.
@@Miiike604 The wording was not great for sure haha. I think "That Plaid with 7 people is quicker than a Taycan" would have been easier to parse, I had to read the sentence twice to figure out what was meant too lol.
Tesla model x plaid weights över 2 tons and with just the driver it Will best most cars in 1/4 mile but with 6 people including the driver you wont expect a 2 ton car to win, amazing race and thank you for a great video 👍
That thing was extremely far from stock, it literally had different brakes, slicks and the interior was completely emptied, nor was the 911 driven by a racing driver lmao ⚡🤡
@@xxxxxtrxxx13 it’s an SUV you’re acting like it was a Taycan lol 😅😭 just wait until actually powerful SUVs start hitting the roads , the X Plaid is just the start .
That is humiliating by miles. A friccking 992 turbo s being dropped and left behind by a stock family wagon fully packed with 6 passengers. This is so embarrassing.
this was absolutely hilarious. Brooks egging everyone on..one of your best of all time. from what i seen, the SF90 edged the Plaid, but we'll have to wait and see, and no way will the pista beat the SF90.
My neighbour has a 911 Turbos S which he only brings out at the weekend. I have an older Raven Model X which I drive daily. Sent him this video...without going into too much detail I told him the Model X is surprisingly fast...lol.
I have an X Plaid, just did a 500 mile trip to Vegas. The passing ability of this thing is insane. I get a lot of people that want to race it. Have yet to see anyone keep up and I mostly just use half throttle. People in the comment say it is a 1 trick pony..not even. It is super comfortable, handles well, and fits a ton of people/gear and can tow. My kids watch netflix/disney + on the back screen on roadtrips, the audio is amazing. I don't see why anyone would get the turbo as it is more of a tourer. I'd rather just get a GT3 and also have my X Plaid for when I want to cover distance. The turbo wouldnt even be able to take a check in roller.
Really shows just how absurd EVs are. Only a couple decades on the market and we have EV SUVs destroying ICE supercars and other cars that shouldn't be even close. And we used to think the Hellcat SUVs were crazy, now they look slow. Also, something about the 765LT being slow compared to the Plaid just to piss off that one very offended, small-minded dude.
