I feel for the family that they lost a loved one, but after viewing the released police body camera footage, I don’t have sympathy for the family’s blatant lying. They did nothing to de-escalate the situation. His death is more their doing than the police’s.

The way I see it and what others have pointed out is, that once the first officer got knocked out and he went after the second, the situation escalated. If the second officer let himself get overpowered, Mr. Knight would have access to two firearms and other weapons. In the state of mind he was in, who knows what he may have done?! The video shows a chaotic situation with police trying to gain control. Should the cop have threatened the one person that actually seemed to be helping, I would say not, but it’s a lot to take in just watching it, let alone experiencing it. It’s tragic this family lost a loved one, but what the video shows is that their statements here, are inaccurate.

So the cop was on the ground surrounded by other ppl and the guy got shot bc he was trying to fight the cop on the ground. He had no choice bc in the bigger picture that cop couldn't allow this guy who already knocked out his partner, get to his gun. The guy was in the wrong, his sister escalated the situation and so did other ppl.

He could have easily killed the officer. So the officer did what any sane person would do when you're facing a threat to your life: he neutralised the threat in self defence. No murder here. Just a violent animal who couldn't handle his alcohol and a police officer who followed the lawful process of threat neutralisation

And the people that were outside there only made matters worse making officers distracted and unable to try and calm the suspect down. Officers did everything they should have done. First they tried to calm him down which failed, Then when he attacked they applied non lethal which didn't work the officer then see he has injured at least one officer already so he doesn't take a chance and applied lethal force putting the suspect down.

I saw the whole video police did their job, man assaulted two cops, knocked one out for a few mins, he’s in a tank top outside drunk arguing with everyone. My condolences but the statements the cops said were right. Whoever called 911 clearly said what he was doing.

Hmm crazy... Multiple 911 calls reporting assault. Police show up. First officer get's literally knocked out. Second officer gets knocked to the ground. After seeing what happened to his partner, second officer understands what's going to happen to him. Second officer tries to taze the suspect (shocking, it didnt work), so he pulls out his service pistol and shoots the suspect. THIS IS NORMAL. Gee, what would happen if the suspect took the officers service pistol. "Oh cool guys, I'll just set this down and we can all be on our merry way. All good here." This sucks and I feel terrible for the family, but they can't blatantly lie when there is literally a body cam capturing everything...

Police can’t use deadly force for simply being punched. He closed fist punched to the head which many departments do consider deadly force, he also jumped on top of an already down officer which is also an escalation from a simple punch. The sister assaulted officers but wasn’t shot, she also didn’t pursue escalating and deadly force
You missed a small detail, such a tiny detail that, despite repeated warnings, not only did he not obey the officers' orders, but even attacked two and knocked out at least one.
As a black woman, I get tired of hearing non black people say, " you're pulling the race card" when in fact the situation was definitely about race. In this case, they're actually pulling the race card when it has absolutely nothing to do with race, they're trying to get a bag off his death. Which is sad. There are true victims. By doing this they're diluting a true cause.

He was not dancing when he knocked out the officer. He was not dancing when his sister was trying to calm him down outside and Loving people do not do what he did when law enforcement showed up. I feel for the niece who will have this memory on her anniversary but he definitely escalated the situation and the sister should have moved out of the way when the officer asked her to. In his inebriated state, he felt like he needed to defend her when all they wanted her to do was get out of what could possibly be harm's way. Somebody called the police for a reason.
How not to get shot Rule 1: dont hit cops Rule 2: if you see a taser comply because the only thing after that is a service pistol sucks to see it happen on this occasion but that is 100% justified. if a police officer is knocked unconscious, that leaves his weapons vulnerable and can escalate the situation to an armed hostile for other responding officers. the way they are trained and unconscious officer is as good as dead. fortunately this cop had a partner who reacted quickly enough to avoid being knocked unconscious as well. once again this is a unfortunate ending but who knows, if the officer did not reacted the way he did, how much worse would the outcome have been, perhaps the callout would change from disorderly man to shots fired, multiple officers wounded, multiple civilians also wounded.

Luckily the bodycam proves that he knocked out one officer cold then knocked out the second officer, who luckily was able to shoot while on the ground. Both officers on the ground, one unconscious, leaves them very vulnerable. Especially seeing how drunk and angry Danielle was. I would have used my gun too. What would Danielle have done if both officers were unconscious? I don't think he would have just walked away. He was in such a violent state. Using the Black lives Matter issue to attempt to dissolve a guilty person is disrespectful to Black people who really are innocent. That was a traumatic event for the officers involved and it's sickening to see the Bride and Groom blame them for it all. In my books, it was a justified shooting. The guy was violent and drunk. Really the sisters fault for escalating the whole thing. She should have let the officers try to calm him down. At the end of the day, he asked for everything he got. Not sure what else they expected to happen. From the way he and the family reacted, it seems like the world is a better place without him.
