I think the most beneficial part of watching these, to develop empathy and being more informed when you end up at an emergency room.

I agree. When our daughter was born we were in the ER all the time until she was about 12. Then we hadn’t been there for anyone in our household - a pause of 25 years. Now my wife is in there a lot, unfortunately.

Hello Denise, I feel for you as I am in the same position as you are, being a nurse and not being able to work any more because of severe illness. I can relate to the work of the nurses and all the hospital staff and it reminds me of how much I liked the hospital as a work environment, and at the same time it makes me incredibly sad not being able to work there any more. I hope you found other meaningful things in your life. For me it's my dog and my friends. Sending you love and comfort! ❤ Teanma

I enjoy this show. What I didn't like is that there was no intervention was done for that poor man. As a family we just experienced this with my mother. Being a retired RN and knowing her lab results I knew she had a heart attack. The first cardiologist just gave her meds. The second one chewed him out and she will be having a heart catherization next week. She is 94. People are never too old for intervention. Me being a queeky wheel got answers.

My husband and I stayed with his mother in a private hospital in southern Spain for 3 weeks, then took her back to her home where she died 2 months later, with us taking care of her and at her side. We had the support of CUDECA hospice, founded and led by Joan Hunt, awarded the O.B.E. at Buckingham Palace in 2002 for her incredible work in southern Spain. RIP

@@deb_ellen9733 😳 I was at a hospital one day with my friend who had ALS, so he was there to see all of his doctors (10 or 12 - it was a very long day). Stupidly, I wore flip flops 🤦🏻 By 2:00 in the afternoon my feet were on fire and gritty but I didn’t have time to do anything about it. By the time I was able to kick my flops off and look at my feet - they were absolutely black and covered with grit that looked a bit like ground glass. I got in the shower, gave them a good scrub with a soft nylon brush and some anti-bacterial soap. They were still dark so I kept repeating the scrubbing process until they looked better. When I got out of the shower I sat on the edge of my bed and put my feet in a plastic bin that I had poured a layer of Bactine (because it has lidocaine in it) in and I soaked my feet. After about 20 minutes they were fairly numb, so my wife lathered them with Neosporin plus (because it has lidocaine in it) ointment, put some over-sized socks on that are way too big for my feet, and I laid there and cried for two hours before I finally fell asleep. I’ve never worn flip flops to any hospital since!!! PS I also had taken photos of my feet before I scrubbed them and I sent those photos and a letter to the director of the hospital. I told her I realize my choice of footwear was not the wisest choice, but I also told her I expect the hospital floors to not be that gross either. She apologized and explained that it’s difficult to keep the floors clean when there are thousands of people with dirty shoes and wheelchair tires tracking dirt in all day, and she promised to try to have the floors cleaned a few times during the day instead of just at night. I’ve been back to the facility several times and true to her word, I saw mops on every floor several times. One of the custodians told me all he does now is scrub the main hallway floors all day long on one particular floor. Over and over. He told me there’s one guy scrubbing every floor all day long. But I’m still not wearing flip flops to the hospital ever again! 😉

As a former Emergency care nurse, I wish SUSANs “consultant” hadn’t said “that’s gonna be a nightmare” out loud..or in the same room with Susan. Patients take everything they hear from the professionals as gospel and hearing negative comments (even if you may know) only makes a person feel pessimistic…they need optimism… especially at her age … I hope she is well,

I hope susan come back strong. At 70 i fell and shattered my kneecap. Ortho surgeon pieced iy back together with pins and wire like a juigsaw puzzle. 10 weeks later a wire poked through the skin and i had to have another surgery. I was not allowed to put weight on it for 3.5 months. 16 weeks of pt. My final visit to the surgeon, he did a happy dance because i had full use of it. Then he told me that he didn't think I'd ever have full use again.

A saw an older woman about her age, sitting in her car, and she had just hit an electrical pole. The firefighters and EMT showed up and actually made her get up and walk and I could tell her ankle wasn't right. I'll never forget the young kid just looking up into the sky as he was lifting this old woman and making her stand up. She went to stand up and her foot completely went to the left side of her. I was so angry to see that. Her ankle was clearly broken. I never knew what happened with her after that but I'm hoping she didn't lose her foot either.

denying of surgery to seniors, purely because of age, as was the case with Filippo, is unacceptable. If one's kidneys and liver are still functioning well, anesthesia should not be a problem. I suppose the things the doctor worried about were that he already had some dementia, as indicated by the fact that he did not seem to understand that he'd had a stroke, and that he had some cardiac problems. I still think that surgery to remove that clot should have been attempted. What that Asian doctor did killed him, in my opinion. Ive looked it up, and giving Warfarin, a blood thinner, to a patient who has already had a brain bleed, made no sense, and is most likely what killed him. Warfarin can CAUSE brain bleeds, for heaven's sake! The surgical procedure to remove a brain clot involves threading a very fine tube through a blood vessel, to break up and suck out the clot. This should have been attempted for Filippo, in my opinion. The Asian doctor is guilty of discrimination against the elderly. She's not a good doctor. My brother is a physician, and he agrees with me. Most of the doctors I've seen on this show are really good. But not this Asian woman. She didn't even present the option of surgery to the family, and she should have. It should have been their decision, not hers. She should have presented the positives and negatives of every treatment option to them, and let them decide. Prince Philip had hip replacement surgery, at age 95, and walked, unassisted, into Harry and Meghan's wedding a month later. He was thirteen years older than Filippo, at that time. Deciding against surgery for a patient, simply because of his or her age, is unacceptable.
