Most musicians either stand in place or maybe walk around the stage. Les Claypool pretty much recreates the Monty Python Ministry of Silly Walks sketch,

Lacquer Head's bassline is the purest example I've ever seen of simple but absolutely not easy. Like when I realised what he was doing it was so obvious I was amazed it had't been done by Larry Collins back in the day. And I will probably never be able to play it.
Its really all about timing its easy if you start out slow. Ive had my bass since 2019 but started actually playing it a few months ago and lacquer head gets easier once you know how its actually played.
As much as les always stands out the whole band put on such a sick show. Probably my favourite Primus song especially because this video is just incredible. Flawless
I've always loved the more obscure live performances. The ones you get to after going on a Primus binge, How the heck does this not have more views.. Up there with one of my favourite live performances. YEEAH!
I was 14 years old in 1999. I remember seeing this video and by the end of the week I had all of their albums. By the end of the month I picked up a bass. 19 years later and I still cant fucking play like Les...
I've been listening to them since the early 90s but this 99 Family Values tour was my first time seeing them and I remember just being absolutely blown away by how they sounded live. There will never be another band like them
Stood right in front of him and had a giant mosh pit behind us and kids flying over our head. At 60 it was the 5th time I've seen them and the best show ever!
It’s funny how Fred Durst had a lot to do with Antipop. The Brown Album was a big departure for Primus and Durst encouraged Claypool to do more slap/pop based stuff like on the early albums. So they did Antipop, toured with a bunch of nu-metal bands, and then I think Claypool got sick of that whole scene. His heart is more in the jam band scene, ironically.
Fred Durst had ZERO influence on Les Claypool. He was a guest producer on one song,as every song had a guest appearance on Antipop.Durst is a bubblegum poster boy.
@@tylerfletcher1291 despite having a soft spot for a handful of Limp Bizkit songs, I still think you're giving Fred Durst too much credit. He happened into what he had, and got lucky the world was "ready" for it. I do, however, 100% agree with your first statement. The only influence Durst could have ever had on Claypool was maybe to show him that Durst was useless, and for Les to keep doing what he's been doing the whole time.
It was 98 or 99, I remember buying the family values album on cassette when i was 15 because of Korn and Limp Bizkit. Hearing Primus for the first time, i gotta be honest, i didnt really like it, couldn't really understand it with my angry 15 yr old brain. It was on my 30's that I rediscovered Primus and started getting into it...
I dunno, I'd borrow Pork Soda album from my uncle when I was younger. I've always liked Primus. Then I was excited to hear them when South Park first aired.
In the six times I've seen Primus live, Anti-pop is the one album I haven't seen them do anything from. But 'Eclectic Electric' seems to be a staple on setlists for their current tour, so maybe that'll change whenever I see them next!
i saw them do the last boyage of the linley sky in 21 but that the the closest i’ve ever been to them playing lacquer head. every time i buy a ticket i think “this is it, they’ll play lacquer head tonight” but they never do it’s eay one of my favorite primus songs ever
This is certainly no reflection of any artist's skill or talent. But, I'm so glad that Les didn't get the Metallica gig...What both bands do is ridiculously great. They're simply just two different paths of ass-kickery. We music fans definitely got the better of that deal.
all the songs primus does is way better live in my opinion . i love watching his live stuff its fanamonal. this was the first song with my name is mud was my intro to primus when the family values was goin down i was 13 still listen to all of it till this day.
les looks like a different guy in every video I have watched, he always is either 50 pounds over weight or super skinny or has long hair or a buzz, he changes his look a lot
Reminds me of times Id rather forget. Dumbasses playing hacky sack in the laquer room every day in wood shop class in the late 90s. Not sure how I made it to the next year.
Ha this is a good one... when they do the silent pause for like a half note then go BOOM into it... really no band got it that tight. PS his left arm is weirdly giant ?.. from all that speedy fret work
Sometimes bored and sometimes lonely Pimple faced and rather homely He wasn't much for socializin' The TV kept a mesmerizin' In one ear and out the other Picked up a trick from his older brother Got him a can of sniffin' sauce Pinned his mind up on a cross Lacquer head knows but one desire Lacquer head sets his skull on fire Lacquer head knows no in betweens Huffin' on bags of gasoline Sniffin' paint since the seventh grade She was high on gin and gatorade On turpentine she lost her luck Fell in front of a speeding pick-up truck He was a boy of soft demeanor And he loved his carburetor cleaner The vapor made a sweet aroma He sniffed himself into a coma Lacquer head feeds his one desire Lacquer head sets his brain on fire Lacquer head knows no in betweens Huffin' on bags of gasoline Keep on sniffin' till yer brain goes pop
