The triangular series between Australia, India and West Indies after this test was my introduction to cricket as a seven year old. Coloured clothing, white ball and beautiful Australian outfields attracted me to watch cricket. Before that I had seen my relatives watch cricket but it was from Sharjah and it wasn't great for TV viewing in the 80s. Australia really knew how to attract people to cricket. Especially Mr. Kerry Packer made cricket a TV product long before IPL and Lalit Modi.
Ravi Shastri scored a double century in the same matches and got 4 wickets in the last innings...almost winning the match single handedly...though Sachin too scored 148 in the first innings...
If my memory serves me right, this was the first time ever in a test that India went with four seamers. Kapil, Prabhakar, Srinath and Banerjee. Shastri had a great game with both the bat and ball.
While losses at MCG, Brisbane and Perth were truly Australia's display of a team on the rise, India could have gained the initiative here and in the close fought 4th innings chase at Adelaide. But nevertheless.
If 🇮🇳 had held on to their catches it would’ve been 3-2 FOR SURE…Kapil dropped Boon in the deep in their 2nd innings in ADELAIDE., a difficult catch..which actually was SIMPLE for Kapil..that made a BIG difference.
The great Shane Warne’s debut match. Shasti’s double ce try and Tendulkar’s 148 before making another one at Perth which confirmed his arrival as a future legend in the making
@@himanshugupta6147 , watch kumble 10 wicket haul. Indian umpire ram jayaprakash finger was up before delivery was even bowled and he gave all 10 wickets to kumble as gift. The neutral umpire standing on other side asked local Indian umpire should he just go home. Watch harbajan hattrick ponting was not out neither was shanevwarne but Indian umpire finger was up before delivery was even bowled. This is the reason india has good record at home.
This was a match that India completely dominated from start to finish but let Australia off with a draw. Amazingly in the last hour Kapil Dev resorted to bowling spin just to get his over bowled quickly so that Shastri could get a couple of extra overs in. Then Shastri wanted to change ends so Prabakhar bowled an over of spin, after just one over Shastri wanted to change back to the other end so they repeated the process. With 2 non spinners bowling spin from both ends predictably the game slipped away from India, worst captaincy tactics ever.
@@fruitopia6798 It clearly is possible not to win from that position, because India didn't win here. PS They didn't have an entire day, India batted into the fifth day.
I sometimes wish my fellow Englishmen were more like Indians. Look at the Indians in this comments section saying umpires are cheats just because not every decision went India's way...
India played more interesting cricket in Australia as compared to Pakistan and srilanka in the recent 50 years . They lost 3- 2 in 77.they could win the series It was 1 - 1 in 81 It was 0 - 0 in 85 .India could win this series 2 - 0 . Umpiring was below level India lost 4 - 0 in 92 .it should be 3 - 2 but again umpires robbed India.
