I think forcing a romantic relationship into the a show/series/book in the canon just for the heck of it is even worse than us shipping googlers. It often feels so out of place and disturbes the plot greatly. It's better if ships are uncanon, so it at least stays among fan speculation.
It's when they act like those pairings are canon that's hard to take, especially when they never interact. Forming the relationship in the fix can be a beautiful thing, but starting it with two that haven't met canon-wise in a stable relationship is terrible.
'Shipping goggles'? For me, it's more like 'Shipping Eyeballs'. Seriously, instead of "I see dead people", it's more like "I see ships". Once you step into this world.., there is no turning back. No matter how much eye bleach..., it can never be unseen again.
i think as long as people don't force ships onto others/the creators it's totally okay. it's fine if ships aren't canon, it's just fun to think of them in relationships
I feel like there's more people coming into fandoms now, that most of them whether young or old don't seem to understand "shipping" a ship can be canon or not canon, regardless there are/will be people who would still ship it, at the end of the day, we're just playing with our fantasies and imaginations about fictional characters, and I think that's the best thing about shipping, while I cant speak for the folks who ships real life people, but the great thing about all this is that the characters are all fictional, a drawing on paper (or a photoshop file). So nobody gets hurt from this other than the people who considered a certain ships their NOTP

On AO3, you can sort by different things. (It's the field second-to-the-bottom of the search panel.) My advice is to sort by kudos. It's just gets you better content.
i need to get something off my chest that relates to shipping goggles. (this is about Voltron and klance.) so i marathoned the whole show recently in time for season 3, and i loved it. i knew that a lot of people shipped klance, and i went into the show thinking i would ship it too. but that actually wasn't the case. i actually came out of it not shipping anything, including klance. they didn't have many moments together, (honestly keith had more meaningful interactions with shiro) and the ones they do have aren't written as romantic. i have no problem with people shipping it, but i can't help think that a lot of people just have shipping goggles on when they think of klance. and you can definitely ship something without thinking its going to be canon. i'm sure there are a lot of klance shippers that like it but don't expect it to be canon. but for those who want it to be endgame... klance hasn't been set up romantically at all. unless that changes in the next few seasons, who knows? i'm not opposed to klance but i just don't see it in the show at the moment. 😰
I know some people can exagarate when it comes to ship moments, but fiction is one of the things that depend heavy on perspective. What a person sees a friendship moment or wierd chemistry, other one can see as a potential romance. (sorry for my grammar)

I and a lot of others in the hetalia fandom ship PruCan, which is a ship with two characters that almost haven't interacted in the entire anime. We still ship it though, it's adorable!
Will you ever do a video on Nightwing (or Robin) and Starfire? I think there's plenty to talk about. How Starfire helped Robin become Nightwing, their cartoon show counterparts, their cartoon movie counterparts, how both those counterparts differ from the comics, and honestly how fragile it is. They are a good couple but every time I see them together I always get scared something will go wrong.
Oh, man, I've been a low-key shipper since I was 13 and I *still* don't have shipping goggles. Seriously, I watched two seasons of Sherlock and my first clue that there might be a ship there was when a homophobic friend of mine (he tries not to be, but it's the truth) said the show made him uncomfortable. Helen Maher I know what do you mean. It is usually hard to me to see ships without a clue. Like Kora/Asami or Soka/Toff or even Zuko/Katara (until their adventure to find Katara's mother killer) I just couldn't see the ship. (The Avater the last airbender and The legend of Kora series) Or on the CW crossover between Supergirl, Arrow, The Flash and LoT I couldn't see the Sara/Kara ship even after Sara said "She's kinda hot" I needed to accidentaly find a fanfic where Sara go to National City when I was searching for Superflash fanfic (where they still are from different earths) to see how good the idea is. Actually, the only time I felt like I was wearing the glasses was when I thought of girls better for Oliver than Felicity and I thought of Hermione. (I really need to see if there are fanfics for that)
I died at the McHanzo example. It is true tho. These two have never met or shared a moment,( reason I did not understand the ship at first) ,not yet canonically, not sure if they share voice lines, but I'm sure the shippers ship it because of the diversity and clash of culture these might impact towards each other (I think?). It seems a fun and intriguing idea. I mean a futuristic cowboy and a Japanese archer, how bad can it be?

There is a person at the Panera near my work who has literal heart shaped glasses, and I want a pair just like them, so that I can switch my normal glasses with them whenever I watch a particularly shippy show of mine. For example, when I watch supernatural I don't really ship anyone, I just enjoy the show, but when I read theories or see gifs that's when I put my goggles on and totally see destiel. On the show I'm not looking for romance but when I finish my watching experience and start analyzing that's when my inner fangirl comes out

Have you ever had that life changing moment where you say to yourself "I can't ship this." Two days ago I read 29 chapters of Killing Stalking in one sitting and it was the most intense, soul shattering experience I've ever had reading a work a fiction that i'm certain it has changed my way of experiencing shipping and shipping fandom. I'm sure you've had this requests for this manhwa. Its a very delicate and controversial ship that much is obvious. But intruded to see a video that discusses this manhwa and the shipping community's response to the shipping of Oh Sangwoo and Yoon Bum. My personal experience of this ship is that despite my love for some very aggressively dark and dysfunctional ships, because of the author of Killing Stalking, Koogi has taken a hyper realistic approach to the portrayal of the story and characters of Killing Stalking I've come to see these fiction characters as very real people in a fiction work (does that make sense?). I empathized so much with Yoon Bum's terror and anguish so much so that he feels like a real person in a hypothetical real situation that I and others in the fandom cannot bring ourselves to ship him with his "love" interest Sangwoo. Although abuse in ships is nothing knew and for several people is always a reason to not ship a couple. I think there's still something unique about this pairing because of its realism in its original source material. But its still fascinating to me that still of course some people ship them regardless. Whether its because they cling onto the hope that Sangwoo will change over a new leaf and stop being abusive or because they simply want to ignore that fact that there is no real love between the two and its just a web of psychological, emotional traps and necessities that keep them together. I'd love to get to see a video on this someday but for now I can tell you that this manhwa has changed how my shipping googles work.
I switch between having shipping goggles and not having them. I get periods where I ship so much and get deep into the shipping world, other times I lose interest and/or just don't see anyone to ship together or casually ship characters together.

I have many ships but I haven't really shipped any pairing for a while so when I was watching Castlevania on Netflix the other day, I wasn't expecting to find a ship. I just wanted to watch some action with a sprinkle of nostalgia. My shipping goggles just appeared out of nowhere and now I have a new ship LOL I did some digging on the internet and I don't think this ship has caught on yet. It's fun having something new to ship :)

Please do a video about shipping in _Star vs. the Forces of Evil_. It's a fascinating case of there being one extremely dominant, passionate, obvious, and plausible ship (Starco), but also a number of passionate dissenters, as well as AU ships.
I don't think I usually wear shipping goggles, but if I know about a common fan pairing before I watch or read something, sometimes the shipping goggles go on without me realizing it. Most recently this happened with Attack on Titan (I started reading the manga several years ago, got distracted, and decided to jump on to the bandwagon shortly before season two aired, I'm late to the party, sue me) with the pairings of Eren/Levi, Erwin/Levi, and to a lesser extent, Jean/Marco. I probably wouldn't have shipped these if I hadn't already known about them before watching.

Have you done Fantastic Beasts? I'd love a discussion about how the canon-confirmed pairing (Newt/Tina) is less popular than other ships in the film. From what I can tell, a lot of shipping for the film revolves around Graves (unavoidable when Colin Farrell is involved). I know that a lot of the pairings for this series are still undetermined, but I'm looking forward to seeing my ship sail.
I don't have shipping googles everywhere but I do feel like with two particular works I do have them those works are Avatar the last airbender and Harry Potter I don't know why but with those two I see ships everywhere it's madness!
I ship all the time, even people I know for a few minutes I always have a laugh with my friends because I go on telling them shipping fantasy stories created on the spot, I once even shipped my dad with my best friend XD So imagine when talking about books, movies and tv shows, I still suffer a lot because there are not enough "Never ending story" fanfics XD
i allways have my goggles on, im often just watching a movie out of pure boreden and start to thing the two charaters have some cheamasticy. but also i do sometimes fores things, like only watch show where i know the are cool ships, i do it because i love to read and wright ffs. and they more people ship there are more ffs. which doesnt mean the im allways into the most popular parings.
Do you think you'd ever be interested in doing a video about Grimmons from Red Vs Blue? I think it's probably one of the best 'canon out of canon' relationships out there in the sense that the creators are open to it (in fact a voice actor for the show once confirmed on a podcast that Grif does have romantic feelings for Simmons) but due to the nature of the show and it's primary audience any romance between the two actually happening in the show is VERY unlikely. It's almost like the ship is canon (I suppose confirmed might be more accurate) but will never be explicitly shown in the main work. Just thought it might be a good example about creators definitely knowing about the ship, being somewhat supportive about it and constantly making jokes and references to the ship in the show, but never actually crossing that line of making it happen.
I don't have shipping goggles, I just automatically locate the one pairing that is My Type™ in any given media and just. Go to town on it. (assuming I didn't get into said media because I saw said pairing that is My Type™ on a gifset and decided _that. that one. yes excellent_ )

Here's a question, and stop me if this has been covered already, but has there been any pairings in shows that fans feel had popped out of nowhere, even without shipping goggles?
My shipping goggles are usually fan art (or fanfiction), at least for ships I don't immidiately ship (like the entire Star Wars universe). And I do this weird thing where I almost seperate by ship... supportation/enthusiasm based off of what I'm viewing. Like, I don't neccisarily ship (actually I don't) Kylux in the movies or even in cannon, but damn, I will never say no to some good fan art or fanfic.
Many people *don't* realize that they're wearing shipping goggles... and that can be very bad, as it can cause them to ship *abusive* relationships because their shipping goggles automatically make them want to see "love between enemies", or "love trumping hate", when the two characters really do just hate each other and do a lot of damage to each other...
Autumn Phillips Though shipping abusive relationships isn't the best thing, they have the right to ship what they want. And what one person can see as abusive can seem ok to other people. I've found that people will sometimes say it's abusive to point fingers at a ship they particularly don't like.
It really depends on one's perception on fiction/fantasy. Most people that ships villains/heroes (or "abusive") ships understood that their ships are hard to sail. When it comes to villain/heroes ships their main topic is always about redemption and forgiveness, most of the people who ships these dont ship them because of the abusive aspect, but the potential for a redemption from the villain side. They wont form any decent relationship when they are both still enemies But hey different strokes for different folks, I personally dont ship or very rarely ship hero/villain, but I know a few who does, and it is mostly for the potential for redemption or the heroes turning into the dark side
mnsq It's not necessarly between hero/villains. Take Romione (Ron/Hermione) from Harry Potter. Ron is usually insulting her, like when he makes her "mental", or when he said that she was "a nightmare" and later on that day she was almost killed by a troll, and he destroys events that are important for Hermione, like the "Yule Ball". ... Anyway, it's just me seeing that ship. The idea is just that not just the hero/villain ships can be abusive

They continuously insist on pairing certain characters romantically even though the relationship makes very little sense and/or seems downright unhealthy to viewers/readers. I'm not going to mention any names but I'm sure we all have our own examples of pairings that just made no sense to us.
Now that you said this... I am going to ship (RYLO) Kylo with Rey. I never thought of it till now... HA HAHAHA... just kidding. I totally already shipped them long time ago... cause reasons... anyway that is not my OTP of OTP's in Star Wars... I ship STORMPILOT more... lip biting & boyfriend jackets AHOY!
My experience with shipping goggles is...complicated. I Multi-Ship, you see, but I do still have OTPs. I put my goggles on for my OTPs (I swear the last manga panel of Naruto holding Neji's body while Neji dies in Naruto's arms is proof that it could have happened...) But, in the case of MHA, I have two OTPs: BakuDeku and TodoDeku, and I bring out my trusty pair every time I come across any and all screenshots of them. I will read and re-read a chapter if there is NAY hint towards the couple being real...but I am just in for the ride with my other ships. That sounds weird even to me, but I regret nothing!
Lol I don't wear shipping goggles until someone tells me about their OTP and why they ship it, and I react like "Hot damn, how could I not see that before?". Then I start shipping it as well, but usually, I just ship what the majority ships.
I think I wear shipping goggles for Fred and Daphne/Shaggy and Velma (Scooby Doo-Original), Hiei and Kurama (Yu Yu Hakusho) and Mercury and Jupiter (Sailor Moon) among others. I doubt any of these are actual couples but I like to think they are. Still tho, Im not out there telling everyone its fact and theyre wrong if they dont believe it. Thats my problem with Shipping Gogglers.

See my friend shipped Sam an cass but I ship dean an cass so I bugged her about it an got her to agree with me, dean/cass is my otp an I got loss in how one could ship Sam an cass even though they barely interact now I see that it dose not matter an if see was haveing fun I should not have talked her out of what she loved
Yeah, I guess you can say I've always got my "shipping goggles" on… but I really hate that term because in my experience it's always been used for mocking/shaming, so I gotta say I winced a little at seeing the title. And also I don't think it's really accurate to say shipping is just like some external thing you can just remove from yourself. If a potential relationship clicks with you, it's something that happens inside you, not out. And some people click more than others (like me :P). But there are people out there who really do think shipping is just like goggles that can be removed or a switch that can be turned off, and try to shame/bully shippers into removing their shipping urge somehow (or at least moving it to the "right" pairing). The thought of how one would really go about doing that is horrifying to say the least. So, yeah… maybe other shippers feel comfortable with using this term in light-hearted jest, but not me.
I cannot remove my shipping goggles when it comes to Stucky. I just... I can't *not* ship them. I seriously just can't make myself see this relationship as platonic. I think I may have a small problem.

Olsen is only seven years older than the 21-year-old Holland and despite Parker being only 15 in the MCU as of right now, Captain America refers to Maximoff as a, "kid" in 'Civil War'. I personally feel like this could be a cute coupling and would love to hear your thoughts on it.
