Fanatec Clubsport DD Review: • Fanatec Clubsport DD (...
This video is a correction video to my Fanatec Clubsport DD Review I released a short while ago, and the specifically holding and peak torque. Before the correction, an apology for still misunderstanding how the torque figures were being stated. Thankfully, I believe that all the opinions still apply, but this is a lesson learnt in doing a lot more research when new measurement metrics are stated.

I've done a little studying up on it lately while I'm waiting for my DD+, and I didn't feel like you said anything outside the ballpark. What I've learned is; there's no standardized testing method. Everyone is going to advertise their max. I had the DD1 (just sold) w/ 20 peak and 15 holding. It had more than enough power, so I have no doubt the DD+ will too. It's nice to know that the detail and power I feel on lap 1 will be exactly the same on lap 100.

Thank you very much - I just wanted to clarify (in case people took it in that way) that the CS DD and DD+ did not actually have more torque than they stated, rather other bases had somewhat less at a holding level, which is what a consumer actually felt.

Saw the first video just today. And now this. Respect. Not many ppl would do this. New suscriber here. Also aviation simmer...

I don't think that 1:14 - 2:06 is correct. The peak torque for the CSL DD is still 8nm, not a little less than that. That is the absolute maximum that it can reach for a fraction of a second. The holding torque (amount of force that it can continue to deliver) is 6nm. I may be wrong but this is what I have seen online.
@ECGadget
@ECGadget 6 месяцев назад
I believe it suffers from fade, which is what seems to have happened. It is meant to be 8Nm, but fades off so the max is a little less anyway... possibly. All these torque figures without independant testing are all very confusing! I could easily be totally wrong, too!

Either way you put it, she got mad torque 🤘
@ECGadget
@ECGadget 6 месяцев назад
This is quite true; I just wanted to clarify the mistake. Same result at the moment, but if other manufacturers start using holding torque as a determining figure, this correction becomes a lot more important!

@@ECGadget Maybe they should. Advertising peak torque feels a little like advertising a GPU for its 1% high FPS instead of the average 🤷‍♂
@ECGadget
@ECGadget 6 месяцев назад
Exactly that, a very good analogy. I think that is why Fanatec have changed to a holding value. I have no doubt that others will do so at some point.

Is it worth the update from CSL DD 8 nm to Clubsport 12 nm ? Is it have more details and better feel or it is only more powerfull ?

Is this a correction or just reiterating what you already said?

He failed at his correction. With more errors. Peak/holding are the same number for DD+.

I still think this is confused. Holding torque is exactly what it says it is: the wheel is capable of sustaining it indefinitely. Higher torque is possible for short periods, and you will feel that, just not for long. If the system is set up end to end correctly, it should be possible to feel 12nm from grip while driving around in a circle forever, and still have headroom for e.g. bumps.
@ECGadget
@ECGadget 6 месяцев назад
This is what I thought it was too but, after a couple of people pointed it out and looking into it on forums in some more depth, it appears that the peak torque is indeed what it hits when it has an overshoot (for the CS DD it is about 16Nm, before settling to holding at 12Nm). This sort of makes sense from an engineering standpoint, as drive motors would have an overshoot that would need to be noted, but the rated running torque would be the important detail, which is the holding torque in this case. A bit strange that Fanatec have not actually explained this properly, using their other wheels to compare.
@RobFisherUK

@@ECGadget ok I stand corrected, and will go and read some forum posts. An interesting thing to do would be to measure it. Maybe a weight dangling on a stick attached to the wheel...
@ECGadget
@ECGadget 6 месяцев назад
Funnily enough, I actually did think about this. A luggage scale or something, then load the wheel up! I am really tempted to try it out, but I think it would be wildly inaccurate.
@RobFisherUK
@RobFisherUK 6 месяцев назад
@@ECGadget all right: here's a way to do it accurately. The DirectInput API lets you configure a GUID_Spring effect that "increases force in proportion to the distance of the axis from a defined neutral point". So we need a program that configures it to give 100% force at 90 degree rotation. Then get a weight and a stick and measure the distance from the centre of the wheel at which the weight overwhelms the force and turns the wheel beyond 90 degrees! Weight x distance = torque. If I ever get around to writing the program I'll let you know 😅
@ECGadget
@ECGadget 6 месяцев назад
You and I have similar thoughts. I was just wondering after I typed that whether I could write a script to load up the force to 100%, whilst grabbing a 50cm stick, attaching it to a wheel so it the zero point was in the centre, then using a scale to judge how much force I needed to keep the stick level. Get the force applied from that, multiply by 0.5 and there is the max torque figure. But that is a bit of a faff... and I need a strong enough stick!

Do you know how to get it out of low tourqe mode? Cheers
@ECGadget
@ECGadget 5 месяцев назад
It should not be in low power mode at any point, unless you have connected a QR1 system to it.

Ty, I got it. My mistake was not doing driver update through fanatec control panel. I had only updated fanalab software. I now have full tq and its sweet! Cheers man 🤙

Fanatec? You kidding me. Ok, so lets say i order dd+ since i have Fanatec eco-system. I get it, now what? I need to get qr2 gor my wheels, its expensive but ok. I go to site and i get a huge FUUUUU. NO STOCK. And i end up with a fancy paper waight. But there was anough qr2's for reviewers and gt7 world champ's. They have shit loads of stock qr2, just holding back to create false craze and justify a price. If Moza or Asatek releases PS5 wheelbase, goodbye Fanatec for good. Hope it happens.

You made another mistake. The DD and DD+ peak torque are the same as their holding. Do more research.

Avoid the Fanatec ecosystem at all costs, they have the worst customer service I have ever experienced. You have been warned.
@ECGadget
@ECGadget 6 месяцев назад
I would not say avoid them at all costs, BUT their customer service (which by their own account they say is unacceptable) is something they are working on.

@@ECGadget I couldn't recommend Fanatec to a friend. I'm selling all my Fanatec in the new year and going with Asetek.

100% disagree. Not to sound rude or anything but just because you had a bad experience doesn’t mean it’s bad for everyone else. I’ve always had a great experience with Fanatec.

I’m in the US and the 5 items I’ve ordered over 2 years arrived within 10 days. I might suggest their issue is underestimating the number of people who love their products. Build 10,000 but get 30,000 orders will cause issues for any company. Example……Boeing airplane backlog specifically regarding the MAX.

You are clearing trolling. My Fanatec Clubsport DD is incredible. It blew my mind how much improved it is over my 8nm dd pro.
