One of the technical questions our engineers Ash and Simon are often asked is about converting your Commando Isolastics. In today's video, Ash takes you through the process of changing it over using our own special pack (link below).

It would be nice to have some content rather than just notifications of up coming posts and having to wait weeks for the information.

The new FAQ Monday and Friday Workshop content is going live on October 1st. Until then we're still releasing our shorts on RU-vid and plenty of other content on our Facebook and Instagram channels too.

Just done 2, one front and rear, one just front (so far) It is a complete pain to do the front as there is no room, the old system comes off and on easily. ( The rear is as you say a major job) , the engine top mount has to be disconnected so the engine can be tilted to get enough clearance to get the front Iso mount in. The other thing to check is the holes in the mounting , a bit too much powder coating on the new Iso mounts. That said its worth it, transforms the bike and easy adjustment

Just had this from Ash. Hope it helps. Soft rubber should make the vibration less. The ends sound like they are not fully home on the engine mount and cradle, they can be tight on the mounts. The other thing to note is to ensure the adjusters are fitted on the correct sides, front - adjuster on right, rear - adjuster on left as you sit on the bike.

That's interesting, a prominent supplier advised filing my crankcase to get the front cradle back in!!

@@bananabrooks3836 who suggested that? Like I say, if you disconnect the top mountings and tilt the engine then it does fit, but after some bad language 🥵

@@mvd944l l'm afraid this was over 10 years ago so it's probably an irrelevance now! If this was not the case l would PM you. (I did squeeze it in eventually without resorting to the file method but found attempted adjustment either near solid or far too slack, probably me not understandinghow to hit the sweet spot but it appears thats far from an uncommon experience. HOWEVER l assure you sir hand on heart this 'advice' which was given over the phone, at the time struck me as extremely odd and hence memorable.

@@bananabrooks3836 Years of owning Commandos < i have had dodgy advice from ALL the main suppliers "Nobody else has had this problem Sir, do you have a file" I do wonder how I've kept the faith after more than 40 years of nonsense

Ashley, do you think the durometet of the new rubbers are the same as the originals? We just completed a job, new vernier systems (front and rear) and the new rubbers for the isolastics (bonded to the shaft) seem very soft, almost too soft. We are experiencing high vibration (collars are on the correct side). New rubbers on the top mount (headsteady) as well. We have checked with feeler (0.006" - 0.010") gauges as well and noticed the PTFE, collars and adjustment nut combination that this assembly is not parallel. That is the top may be tight, opposite (bottom check) is loose.. not sure why?? Thoughts why and would this contribute to the vibration? Help is appreciated. Keep up the great videos!
