Ever asked yourself why Airliner Jets don't always take off with maximum available thrust settings? Here I explain all about Assumed/Flex Temperature and Derated Thrust takeoff procedures.
Even though these videos contain detailed information about aviation related topics, all tips and instructions are only to be used for the Flight Simulator on your PC! My videos therefore are not intended as professional instruction! And my videos do not show SOP ( Standard Operating Procedure) of any distinct airline.
Please leave a thumbs up if you liked the video. Cheers!

Another illustration, brilliantly done by BB as usual, of why study level aircraft are worth the investment. And how little I make use of these advanced features lol. These videos help with that a lot.

Very good description and explanation! A couple more points that could be made are that because the pilot is always allowed to increase to TOGA when using reduced thrust, the minimum control speed requirements with TOGA thrust must be maintained. If using a derate, the derated thrust is the new "TOGA" level, so there is a reduction in the minimum control speeds. This can be especially helpful on a contaminated runway, where takeoff weight is severely restricted. The other point is that there is some inherent conservatism in the assumed temperature reduced thrust method because: 1) although the TOGA thrust vs OAT curve is used, the air will be denser at the actual temperature so thrust will not be reduced as much as if you were actually at the higher temperature, and 2) the takeoff distances will be shorter than the perf analysis at the higher temperature because the true airspeed and hence ground speed will be lower at the actual temperature.

Hi. All correct, thank you for commenting. I keep certain details out of these videos because a) they are not intended to be ATPL study level but only for flight simulation use and b) have them not becoming too long. Nevertheless a fascinating subject.

@Blackbox711 amazing content as always. Learnt a lot from a amazing captain. Could you explain also how do you plan for an engine out procedure/ engine out SID? Cheers and many many happy landings to you

Hi. Thank you very much. For us pilots we get the specific engine out SID published with the performance calculation. On my website blackbox.oneengineout.com/airportdata/ there are EOSIDs for over 200 airports available. Happy Landings.

Superb clips as always! Congratulations to the most passionate Aviation Captain I have ever seen! I have a question now, Sir! In the future, could you make a video explaining the procedures of Noise Abatement, NADP 1 and NADP 2? Thank you so much again!
