With the Motorola Defy - Satellite Link hitting the market we now have fundamental differences between this, the new kid on the block, and the two-way satellite communicators that are established and been on the market for a number of years.

Thanks for an excellent overview on a diverse subject! One small clarification, in the US it is similar to Great Britain in that an insurance policy is not required to be rescued. The US rescue organizations are primarily volunteers, coordinated by a local government entity. However, as you pointed out later, a contract is needed for the devices. Thanks for your high quality research and presentation - always great.

Really good insight into these devices,i do have a fair understanding of how they work and have just purchased the Motorola defy, however i wasnt aware of the issue regarding crevasse or cliff fall type emergency where potentially i would be still unable to raise a rescue, great video and thank you for highlighting the limitations so well.

Very useful and well explained video. Trying to choose between the Zoleo, inReach Messenger and the Defy for hiking in the UK. Tempted by the Defy for value but the need for a southerly line of sight is making me reconsider. Thanks again 👍Ben

My personal experience with the inReach mini 2 , very very good. I was in srepp country hunting for five days. Never had a problem contacting my wife. Just FYI

I have a conference call with them in 1 hour do discuss how it will effect the customer/ user going forward. I am hoping to update everybody with what I find later today but keen to get facts first before speculating, as I know it may affect many people. Facts first.
