Toby's reaction to the removal reminds me of my grandma's dog. My grandma always goes with her dogs into the mountains for a forest walk at least once a week, so the dogs would get ticks now and then. Her current dog hates tick removal, and she connected the word "tick" to the procedure. So to stop her from hiding/ getting nervous too early, we all have to refer to the ticks as "bad animals" when the dog can hear us.

I thought Toby was going to comfort you but instead he just stepped on you and went on his way!!! 🤣 He's a livestock guardian dog not a human guardian dog!!! 🤣🤣

Thank you for acknowledging what it takes to be a responsible breeder! So many people breed dogs for no good reason. Although Toby dog is a pretty handsome and smart fella 😍. Penny is such a good rooster boy. Even though he only has one hen, she doesn’t look beat up or hurt at all. In fact- she looks like she’s in perfect health. He takes such good care of his lady. I love them.

Caution with Toby "working burr out with his teeth"...my little guy did that and got piece caught in throat. .coughing all day. Vet said give bread to push it thru. Was ok next day but was scary .

Mange is caused by mites, not by having something caught in the coat. Thank you for recognizing that just because a dog CAN be bred doesn't mean he or she SHOULD be bred. As someone who had shown and bred my dogs for 35 years, please understand that the only reason to breed a litter is to create puppies that are as good as, or better than, the parents, and adhere as closely as possible to the AKC Standard for their breed. The costs are enormous, as is the responsibility of bringing these new lives into the world. Please leave breeding to those who know what they are doing unless you are willing to dedicate years of your life and a good amount of money to your breed. 🐩 Also, I love that black chicken!!

Duck farmer whose allergic to duck eggs forgets to duck when trying to get to his ducks and his duck dog toby who guards them from skunks

Oh...I did that once when I was a kid. I was sitting on a wooden fence that had electric attached to the top. I accidentally touched my head against it and it blew me off the fence. I feel for you.

If you have trouble with Toby staying still while you groom him, use a leash or tie a rope to his collar, put him in a sit-stay, stand on the end of the rope so he is firmly secured, but obviously not pulling on his collar too much. If he is pulling too much against the leash on his collar causing him to cough and choke, (some farm dogs are not that experienced with staying still for grooming) then use a rope to make a slip knot, put the loop over his head and under one front leg. In my salon, we do this with dogs on the table, so they are secured, but if they try to jump unexpectedly, they do not end up hanging themselves or sustaining trachial/esophageal damage. This is called a safety cross, in grooming. That way, you can stand on the rope to keep him tethered while keeping both of your hands free to groom and Toby doesn’t pull away until he chokes himself. It isn’t pleasant to have these burrs detangled from his fur, but it is a necessary evil.

You could modify the locking mechanism on the gate to act as a kill switch itself. That way you don’t have to remember to use the switch, just by opening the door it’s automatically off, and on again when you close the gate.

TeHeHe. Yeah, been there, done that. As a kid, one of my chores was to feed the horses as soon as I got off the school bus. I usually wore a long silver necklace that looped around my neck and every day at the supper table, Dad would say, "You better take that necklace off before you throw the hay over the fence." That night at supper, I had a necklace of red blisters around my neck. My mom said I was not going to feed the horses from then on. Dad said, no, she is going to feed all the animals in addition to the horses when she gets home until she learns to listen. Dad won.

All of the ducks are looking beautiful, which shows that you are taking great care of them. Keep up the good work
