Andy "aTrippyFarmer" Dole is a 6th generation farmer from Central Illinois. On this farm, Andy works alongside his father, Marty, his uncles, Chris and Jeff, and his sister, Katie, to grow corn and soybeans on some of the finest dirt in the world. Andy and his family are deeply rooted in the area, operating a large farm that traces it origins back into the 1800s. Although some tracts did not stand the test of time, Andy and his family still grow corn and soybeans on fields that have been in the family for longer than even the oldest members of the farm have been alive. We do, we have, and we always will take tremendous pride in calling this piece of paradise our home. Andy was a Bronze Tablet graduate of the University of Illinois in the field of Crop Sciences, following the same path as his father and late grandfather.
It would be misleading for Andy to claim that this life is one that came by chance; rather, as a member of two multi-generational farm families, it was simply in his blood. His passion for agriculture traces back to his early youth--some of his fondest, earliest memories being of days spent riding in the combine with his father and grandfather. Although his understanding of the lifestyle was much less complex in the beginning, the love he has for farming, and its industry has only appreciated through time. As this dream blossomed into adulthood, Andy now works relentlessly, and tirelessly, to chase his own dreams and to build a farming operation of his own alongside his family.
We, as a whole operation, are handymen, electricians, mechanics, landscapers, accountants, economists, caretakers, stewards, and, most importantly, farmers, and we take an incredible amount of pride in our work. There is no challenge too overwhelming, no situation too stressful, and no problem too difficult for us to take on, and we want to take you along with us. Welcome to our farm and welcome to our lives. You have the best seat in the house to watch the everyday chaos of farming unfold--we usually only get concerned when things aren't going wrong!

Growing up, we had Massey Ferguson tractors. Similar reasons: the dealer was fairly close, they did a great job supporting us, the price for us was cheaper than other brands. Years later, we are mostly JD because most other dealers are 50+ miles away.

That’s a similar story to a lot of folks that run Deere. Other brands just didn’t keep up, especially during the farm crisis.

Brian from Brian's Farming Videos just started a lease on a brand new Fendt 1038. When the dealer came out to inspect it they found the front wheel seal leaking. The part is going to take a while to come in and they had a loaner out there pretty fast. So it does seem that they stick to their promise. Go check his videos out, I think you would like them.

I’ve watched many of Brian’s videos, though I don’t stay fully up to date on the farm RU-vidrs. I think that is a perfect example of support after sales. I would caution everyone to consider that Brian most likely gets favorable treatment from Fendt as a brand. I think there are deals going on there that promote some bias on his end, but I do think his content is very genuine. He is a great representation of farmers like me!

I am aware I am writing this months after the videos realease but I want to put out the situation smaller farms like us are in. We run late 90s equipment before technology was intergrated into the equipment. For us this makes it really easy to run different brand equipment (a case 7250 on a johndeere 7200 planter). Now for us to get into guidance systems is confusing. We could spend the money and go all out John Deere but to do this it would cost more than two of our tractors combined. For us it makes more sence to run systems like agleader because of the price even though it is less ideal compared to John Deere. Additionally, even with we went to a John Deere system, none of our John Deere equipment is set up to run this technology even though they where made by the same brand. For example our 7200 series planter can not run prescription maps because it does not have electric drive. With this we would be spending the money on the technology to make simple guidelines that we could do with a out of date off brand company. Thanks for bearing with me and my bad spelling😂 it’s a complicated topic for a 14 year old.

@@twatner09 I have personally used the new Fendt integrated monitor system and the Pro 700. I have not used the Pro 1200 but have not heard great things concerning reliability (Case to Case system btw). They sound good when they work lol. The deere's have their own issues, but almost all of those for us seem to be related to 4g connectivity, so might not even be Deere's fault given our poor signal coverage.

Was a day late to watch this but good explanation on the brands of equipment. From what I can tell here in saskatchewan, we do have quite a bit of john deere dealerships but in my area I'm starting to see alot of claas lexions and fendt ideals(and some case) combines more often. From what I've researched alot of that goes with the prices due to Canadian prices being so expensive as combines generally range from 800k to 1.3 mil. One thing I see is there is generally alot more john deere tractors and I imagine cause they are pretty reliable. And even I agree john deere do look quite nice. When it comes to seeding tractors, I generally see just the case steigers or john deere 9 series', due to the good horsepower they have and what u need to pull air seeders. Anyways awesome video and keep up the awesome vids!
@aTrippyFarmer
@aTrippyFarmer Год назад
Thanks for the great comment. I think the Claas and Fendt are much more tempting to farmers that are looking for change. They are stylish, powerful, and innovative machines. Deere does all of the same, but there’s not as much attraction to something that you’ve always ran. It’ll be interesting to see if these farms stick with the other brands or if they come back home to case and Deere.

Here is why I’m Deere. I buy stuff about 5 years old, use it for 10-15 years, and sell it for more than I paid for it. I do love the old Internationals. They were always way ahead of Deere. In the 70’s they had true rotor combines and proper MFWD. Their are all kinds of sleepers out there. Ford, White etc… Also, I have Deere dealers all around me. That support is priceless.

It’s crazy to see the resale value in the current market. We sold a 2013 tractor for 30% more than what we paid for it. The only catch is that we bought a replacement tractor that was 80% more new than the old one. There is definitely some funky math going on in the current marketplace. I am a big fan of other tractors. It is just hard to sneak them into the rotation to even attempt to try. Thanks for the comment!!

Might make more difference when buying new and trading but buying used and trading the spread has tightened over the years. With the tools we have at our fingertips in this age if a farmer is concerned about resale they should be selling the old machine themselves
@aTrippyFarmer
@aTrippyFarmer Год назад
That is a great point that I overlooked. I do think that my logic holds true if you are trading at a different brand’s dealership, but you can capture better return on your own. There are some tax implications with that route that do discourage outright sales. Thanks for the comment!

The Ford broke down frequently. The Allis-Chalmers was a piece of junk and a constant headache. Those kind of deals are above the authority of local dealerships. That is a corporate program, so I don’t think it is relevant to regularly-sized farms like ours. I know some big farms that flop back and forth, but I know others that are wholeheartedly loyal to Deere.

We have built this lineup of equipment over the last century. It wasn’t all just bought with one check last year. I disagree about input prices. If anything, it would be bad business management to just accept the blatant price gouging from nearly all sides of agriculture. We don’t get the kind of day that all of these product manufacturers do.

Andy,,,,, I’ve never heard you be “politically correct before”. You hit the nail on the head with your 4 stated reasons why we run Deere. And you also nailed the 5th for us cotton growers, Deere is the only one still building cotton harvest equipment. And besides that, no one else could compete with them and hence the last man standing. No one will ever beat Deere. Ever. And that’s not up for debate.

@@aTrippyFarmer Andy the two most expensive pieces of farm equipment made by Deere are the CP 770 and the CS 770. I have two CS 690’s both 2019’s,,,, due to the price increases I can trade both of them in for one new 770 and still have to throw in a little to make the swap. We usually only run them for three years and trade, but the price difference in three years is unreal.
@aTrippyFarmer
@aTrippyFarmer Год назад
@@peteparker7396 that sounds about like everything else. Our combine depreciates around 10% per year. If you don’t maintain a trade roll, it becomes a big price to trade up for a new machine, unfortunately. I can’t tell if it’s the nature of the market or if it’s specifically engineered by Deere.
