The rise of ironic fashion means dressing cringe is an online trend. Shoudl we be bringing it to the real world?
Included in this video: raised.online, Ssstufff, Drought, Gavin South, Nik Bentel, Haunted Starbucks, Dime, Slaughter Bootlegs, EspionageVR, and more!

Agreed though I always felt like that NPC hoodie kinda copied a bit too much from john seo and his NPC merch. Still though love the raised online pants

I think the reason why raised online doesn't work for me is that it's too self-aware and ironic to be the good kind of cringe. Cringe is born of sincerity, expressing love for something in your life without caring about appearances or what other people might think of you. Saying "haha, I'm an NPC, this actually indicates my self-awareness" just makes me think the wearer is going to be totally insufferable and self-conscious.

Appreciate this take and it's definitely important when it comes to anything cringe or ironic. Some people will absolutely use "I'm doing it ironically!" as a shield for doing/saying stupid stuff. How can we not get lost in the cringe sauce?

The pros of the trend is that people get to revive their childhood or lost interest/hobbies when done right. The cons is that I can’t find a goddamn devil may cry or resident evil shirt for under 50$

I remember when they released a 2k+ Nero/Dante leather jacket/coat for the release of dmc5. Given the price I assume the quality was at least decent. I'd have loved seeing what Vergil's coat could have looked like.

And to finish...We are overproducing bad clothes with bad and cringy designs anyway. Everything seen in this video you can find, in almost exact form, in any thrift shop because bad designs executed in bad way have been churned out for few decades now. No need to start a new brand to make bad and stupid design...It has been done in large quantities already and landfills and thrift shops are full of it. But...watermark jeans are cool 🙈. Rest of stuff shown could be also not produced new, for environment sake if not for anything else.

I don't think dressing cringe became cool, more than dressing cool became cringe. This may sound like a semantic argument but if you consider that now fashion and caring about outfits has become far more mainstream in general, people get drawn to 'how to' guides and copy/paste metas because they care alot about 'getting it right', but at the very heart of being 'cool' is aloofness and not caring too much. The second you cross the rubicon of 'trying too hard' you crossed the line from cool to cringe... like some kind of cool/cringe paradox. You can't *try* to be cool, because that's cringe. But you *can* try to be cringe and that's pretty cool.

I like this trend because its goes against the clean and timeless capsule fashion. Chaotic and unique clothing is refreshing. I think Frugal's mash of both is a good example blending being trendy, fashionable and timeless.

I think bringing in comedy/meme/pop culture into fashion is perfectly fine, but it'll also come with a whole new cult following, similar to how each other "genre" of clothing brings. There'll be pretentious people that have to criticize other fashion/trends, calling them tryhards or something, those that go a bit too far out there to the point where it might seem a bit overly enthusiastic (my own opinion), gatekeepers that'll never share where they got their stuff from, and many more. Obviously each following has their own equivalent of the type that I just mentioned, but even with all that, I would honestly welcome it with open arms since fashion is an ever growing industry where creativity eliminates the "skill cap" of how far it can go. Honestly, some of those clothes that were featured (NPC hoodie, slipper hoodie, stock photo watermark pants, etc) are genuinely things that I would consider spending money on. Hopefully it doesn't get to the point where it'll ruin people's passion for fashion with people taking trolls too personally, but it's a market that I'm honestly all for

I enjoy looking at some graphics tees, but I think for the most part they're landfill waste. Many 'ironic' tees are bought on the premise of them being funny, but will probably not even get worn because they're so silly. Sometimes things are better enjoyed as memes, not made into physical objects.

Ngl this ain’t for most but that doesn’t mean that most aren’t gonna buy. This just seems to boost consumerism; not only that but most of the buyers won’t really rock it outside and will leave it in their closet collecting dust The fact that there is attainable brands isn’t much better either, it’s just more shitty Ig brands that make their shit across the globe by a bunch of kids It’s kinda fun but there’s things that you can just observe and enjoy Also on the whole individualism thing, post ironic fashion is kinda lame too. Don’t really understand why there’s people trynna make fits with crocs when they hated on them in the past. Only trend it expresses is trend hopping

I rock a variety of Pokémon t shirts on a regular rotation. But I feel like twitch and social networks as a whole make the idea of cringe kinda diluted in regards to some of the gaming stuff. Sometimes it's really black/white and you're an alien, other times it's just the norm.

I was wondering what you think about brand’s patenting really cool potential aspects of clothing like the jacket sling and earbud magnet. After wearing the clothing for a few days, I feel like it prevents people from potentially having really nice features that make clothing more convenient and multi faceted at a more approachable price?

Bdw...next trend will be visible mended clothes. Like new piece of clothing that got hole in it for accident or because clothes nowadays are of low quality and you mend that hole by yourself in a best way possible but you still see it is mended. Mended with sewing thread, not patches. Like we will be proud of mending clothing and make it trendy. Next will be creative and visible altreations of clothes that don't fit well. Like you buy vintage piece of SLP jeans that someone altered before you so you need to re alter them to fit in. And you do it by discovering altered parts, unpicking them, and adding fabric there to "bring them back to original fit" by using some fabric that makes this very visible. Like leather inserts or check fabric. Like that thing when in Japan they fix broken ceramic with gold. That's the vibe. Being proud you fixed it and not being ashamed that you wear fixed and mended things but you boast it.

I think dressing up and looking bad doing it is great. That's inherent visual irony because usually outfits are meant to look good, and I like an ironic or subversive approach to anything. If I wore only perfect clothes I would look the same every day. We all know what "proper" clothes should look like and it is distilled down to few choices. Wearing "bad" outfits intentionally for me does following. 1. It is fun. Being politically correct, do good, squeaky clean person 24/7 ain't fun. We all have a little devil inside that needs to come out sometimes for therapeutical reasons 2. Boosting courage and raising adrenaline. Some people climb mountains with bare hands, I dress like idiot and walk the city to get same effect. 3. We live in a world that tries to make us sterile and neutral in all the possible ways. We need some middle finger in the air now and than to make us feel alive and kicking. So...there are many functions of dressing bad intentionally. If clothes wasn't so symbolic we would not have invented it, made infinite variations of it, and commented it, all this for thousands of years already. People don't realise how important clothing is. It is actually culture, basic need, communication mean, and a toy to play with when we get bored.
