I feel like cowboy boots is and has always been a rural thing. I live in ND, and even people in the city were originally from a small town, so they are ALWAYS a thing here. 😂
The level of not being self aware. The girl who said she hates Athleisure was wearing Athleisure. Interestingly the two people who said they didn’t really hate anything were the best dressed. Positivity is always in fashion I guess.
she's technically doing the "bloke-core" trend, like to a tee. athlesiure is more like matching lulu sets, baseball cap, more yoga type looks. but i agree with you completely, everyone with the exception of the more positive people looked like walking pinterest boards, not a coincidence lol
Honestly you’re right imo and a lot of the people that had something negative to say imo weren’t all that fashionable or just complaining about popular trends that are popular for a reason. Personally I don’t really follow trends at all unless I see something I like and I just add it to the style I’ve already developed on my own. I also don’t judge people for wearing what they like if they pull it off well 🤷🏽♂️
As a person with a fashion design degree from NYC (born, raised, and got my degree here), I wouldn't take styling tips from any of these people. 😂. Wear what makes you happy people. Life is too short
This video taught me being a fashion student means nothing. I always assumed studying fashion would give them some sort of extra creativity or unique style but it really doesn’t😂
I went to fashion design school, and most of the schools have a really high acceptance rate. A lot of the students view the way they dress as a competition with the other students to see who can be more “unique”. In reality, when you meet professional designers, a lot of them are wearing jeans and t-shirts because they are way too busy to care.
It’s disappointing that fashion students don’t even know what historical things are called, but hate them (like tabis) , the longer I studied fashion , the more I loved and appreciated everything , even the things I would personally never wear. I love some opinionated tea, but it kinda sucked to hear artsy people have such rigid views on what is acceptable. Also the hypocrisy was a bit much, saying athleisure is over whilst wearing a sports jersey , and browsing brandy melville in your new balances , yet ready and willing to talk shit 😂
after watching this disturbing video I've honestly never been more grateful for being born with two artist parents. rigid is an understatement, sounded like she's interviewing random middles school kids about fashion. they didn't know anything, and it IS quite serious and upsetting that they're in fashion school.
its because these “fashion” students are all just wearing trends and copy anything that is popular on tiktok and pinterest at the time and thats why their opinions are shit 😭💀
Corduroy completely disgusts me but that's my personal opinion, not really a statement on whether other people should wear it. Like, if I'm in a store and I see corduroy pants I'm like "ew, corduroy" but I don't feel the same way when I see someone wearing them. And velvet is gorgeous. I think this person has never experienced sumptuous and plush silk velvet.
Her outfit was horrendous like how could she be out in public in literal 1900s bloomers the booty short version and probably a thrifted old jersey… It was basically ugly pajamas when you have no other ones cause they’re in the wash 😂
Where I live (San Diego) I see most of these trends. But I am SO SO SO tired of people buying vintage Y2K stuff that I would never have touched in the 2000’s…”Vintage Charlotte Russe”?! 🤣🤣🤦🏼♀️🤦🏼♀️🤦🏼♀️ I seriously wouldn’t have been caught dead in that store. Further, the fabrics are almost all synthetic. I prefer silk and cotton. Just all these nylon, acrylic, and other cheap fabrics…the reason there is so much of it at the thrifts and so much dead stock is because it was mostly AWFUL.
i think it's worth noting too that what's actually trending in reality and what's trending on tiktok are two vastly different worlds. obviously, these students have their fingers on the pulse of fashion THROUGH social media, so of course they're going to get sick of things much much faster, but in reality i find that the trend cycle does operate so much slower than what is shown online. taking some time away from tiktok does wonders for how you perceive clothes and trends!
This is true! If you look at the data, we're also buying less new clothes than we used to. But if you were to just watch TikTok you would honestly think we were buying an outfit a day. I am sure /some/ people buy too many clothes and skew the averagee, but spending on clothes has gone down since the pandemic and I would assume it will continue on a downward trajectory or stablise now because of numerous factors.
"Skinny jeans are coming back, but I really hope they don't" GIRL, PREACH! For real tho, these videos are so much fun, as always. I love agreeing OR hard disagreeing with people! Fashion is soooo fun!!!!
@@taliajournee21220’s kind of a comfortable straight cut is not dragging anywhere tho. Covers your ankles and leaves more place for thermals. Jeans are not a superior choice in a colder climate anyway. I wear whatever myself - wide skinny skirts sweats low rise high rise - you name it, yet practical choices have been pretty much the same for the humanity🙏🏻
Maybe with 27 I'm too old but I think only baggy jeans or mom jeans look good and the other type of jeans, especially baggy ones, look really bad 😂 when I was young people got bullied for wearing baggy jeans
"Tik tok copy and paste" finally have a term to use when I see it in the wild. Glad the big city bags are back. People bringing back gossip girl vibes with the bags and flats lol. On that note, skinny jeans will be coming back in the next year or so. I saw a bunch being styled in vogue (granted more straight in style rn) with sparkly and studded shoes (early 2010s....). Thank you for the croc hate. Never liked them.
I really enjoyed seeing theses people's outfits! I'm generally not a hater of anything (except maybe the ribbons), bc I love seeing people being creative and trying stuff, but I do hate the rapidness of the trend cycle - these people themselves are criticising overstaturated trends such as the sambas, but they're wearing other trendy items like statement necklaces which maybe they'll stop liking in a few months, courtesy of the thousands of pictures we all consume on social media. Drives me crazy 😅
I completely share your opinion. When I buy a pair of sneakers, I want them to last at least a few years, not a season. I love how more people are talking of the trend cycle as a bad trend itself. Beyond other reasons, I think this is fed by specific items becoming trendy instead of an idea. For instances, a specific black dress from a brand instead of black dresses. That makes is so that people get saturated more easily...
Honestly, I think people should wear the items they love for as long as possible because it’s just going to come back in style. There’s been so many items that over the years I’ve given away and wish I kept.
@@maiazine OMG for real with the specific items trending because they are then seen everywhere and people get so sick of them so quickly. notable mention to that one house of sunny green knit dress from 2021 or whatever
They all dress like everyone did when I was in middle school, and are basically stuff that was heavily disliked until it became on trend again so I just find this whole video so ironic. Although it’s fun to get flashbacks, it’s like a Time Machine.
dude why are they naming fabrics and basics in fashion that people have worn for decades? this is a monstrosity. like girl sneakers??? LACE ?????? corduroy?? VELVET!?! ribbons? athleisure? HAHHAHAHA. SMALL BAGS ?? button ups GIRL SAID BUTTON UPs. sequins SEQUINS!! ARE YALL HEARING THIS SHIT
these “fashion” students literally don’t know what tf they are talking about and its funny too because they are all wearing trendy outfits that they wont wear months from now when new trends come 💀😭😭😭
theres no such thing. everything you wear or think of wearing was created by a multi billion industry, you're "unique style" will always be based on something
Personally going left, when everyone is going right is my fav thing to do in fashion. Don’t be afraid to be you and stand out. Who cares what’s trending
As someone who is almost 40 years old, looking at these young people wear things that we wore in high school or college that were absolutely cringe and ill fitting, it’s hard for me to really take them seriously. I understand that they’re the trendsetters but It’s also kind of giving me the ick. Idk
I feel you girl 😂 We were loud and young once too, wearing exactly what our parents wore 20 years ago thinking we were soooo artsy and fashion forward. It’s a rite of passage. Let them live 😂
This video was way more informative than when they were talking about what they did like, because it felt more authentic, and not what they’d seen on catwalks or trend lists. I’d love to chat with them about what they REALLY want to wear. Their predictions were not reflective of the great clothes that a lot of them were wearing, but followed what I’ve seen influencers saying for a while now, and following catwalk trends - which have always come after the early adopters and street style crew. I guess they were young and trying to sound like they knew what they were talking about. But ironically, catwalk designers would watch them walking in and out of that building, making notes on the real life styles these young trendy things are wearing.
i love the video! i just think it’s funny that most things they think is over saturated i’ve never even seen being worn irl here in brazil. like the ribbons on clothing or marc jacobs’ tote bag. even the ties! it’s not common to see women wearing ties casually here, as scarfs or whatever. i’m always the only one wearing ties to hang out around the city lol even the tabby shoes i’ve never seen anyone wearing them irl and just recently a friend of mine told me rich people from her college wear those - but in day to day life regular people don’t wear it. it’s funny how some trends are being over used in nyc but they haven’t arrived in another countries and people are already tired of them lol makes you wonder if something’s is a real trend if it’s just a specific circle using it! and i agree that crocs aren’t comfy 😫
Even in the US (not in NYC), I haven’t seen a lot of the things they’re talking about. I think those things are only popular with people who are very into fashion or in the wealthier areas of large cities.
omg fr! And im from Berlin(Germany). New Balance/Sambas are kinda the only thing that i saw often but the other things are mainly a social media thing and are for most people too special/unusual than wearing them outside.
I feel the same and I live in the US, so many things I thought were a cute statement piece and it’s already basic to them 😅 I thought maybe fashion was moving so quick I couldn’t keep up anymore
"this is controversial, but it's also not a big deal, don't make it a big deal" lol. Also the I ❤️ NY t-shirt at the beginning 😂😂😂 Opinions are fun! It's such a delight to act like "that person's sneaker choice is not only objectively incorrect, but it is a personal attack on my way of life and everything I stand for". And that person is your best friend, standing right next to you as you say it, and then you both giggle and keep wearing what you like and keep living your beautiful lives
I really love this video because it’s a bunch of very passionate people expressing themselves, but if you love something and others don’t wear it anyways 😍
I've been wearing the same pair of very well-made cowboy boots for at least 12 years. And yes, I did wear them when I lived in L.A. for a few years. Nobody looked at me funny. I don't think most people care that much what other people wear, do they? 😊
I feel like the styling of cowboy boots in NYC is a nod to the “ironic fashion” trending in bushwick and dimes square. Personally love mixing contrasting styles like cowboy boots with shorts or loafers with lounge wear
where you live in a place where you still see people wear athletisure as fashion then you’d come to appreciate all of those trends people dislike in this video… but I agree with the new balances trend 😅 though I think they’re gonna become the new adidas superstars. Personally the only classic sneaker in my books are Air Force 1 and they’re actually comfortable
Just never connected with Nike, my feet aren't comfortable in them, and they're too mainstream around here. So are Converse, but I'm okay with them. New Balance are so comfortable, but pretty meh as far as appearance.
Guys, I apologize but I can never part with my high waisted skinny jeans. As a tall girl, no one understands how hard it is to find flares that are long enough, so I will never be adopting that trend. I'm just dying for the day skinny jeans are back 😭😭😭
Just wear them anyway if they suit you, who cares! I personally do not suit skinnies and will still be wearing the other Jean types when they come back in style. I reckon you can look super stylish wearing whatever you like nowadays as long as you do it with intention and confidence, and it suits your body.
Girl just wear them lmao, they look good and classy, who cares what someone who follows every single tiktok, pinterest trend has to say, where I’m from girls still wear skinny jeans while also wearing baggy jeans or the trendy stuff, skinny jeans will never go out of style, they’re classics, and look good.
these people are in COLLEGE?they dont seem to know anything about fashion, brands, or trends. i actually thought this would be fashion forecasting, not random stuff kids hate but ok
I would say the ‘dad’ shoes like new balances fall under a more street style kind of fashion. I wouldn’t say they’re going out completely but rather falling back into their rightful spot as a more street type of shoe. I’m not a big fan of them being styled with trousers and other business casual type wear I think that looks tacky but when their styled with outfits catered to a sportier aesthetic I think they work well
No one in New Balance shoes think they’re different lol I own a pair, it’s just a good basic white shoe that goes with everything and it’s relevant (too relevant I agree 😅) it’s better than some other similar shoes 👟 bc it doesn’t look chunky on big feet
I think its wild when some of these students said "trends" that people have actually been wearing for years. Like the Frye Boots for example, maybe this is me just being salty because I love them... but they have been around for so so long and yes they have just gained more popularity in the recent years but they've literally been around since the 1970s...like they ain't going anywhere and are built to last. Additionally I think this is a great example of an item that has already existed that became trendy vs brands going out and creating all of these new clothes to follow trends (ie everything ribbon, lace, and sporty). To me these two 'trends' feel very different because on the one hand you can really find Frye boots secondhand and participate sustainably vs on the other you most likely are gonna go out and but it new. Curious on others thoughts on this and if they have language to differentiate these "trends". I guess you can say "micro trend" but the bows and lace definitely do not feel micro. Sustainable vs unsustainable trends? idk, hope this made sense though!
I’m sorry, but I had to comment this. As a person from Georgia saying cowboy/cowgirl boots is New York thing is absolutely wild. What? What on so many levels!!
I actually agree with so much of this. And some of it is like - if I had really uncovered that critical edge in myself I would have been like - oh you're right - there is something wrong with sequins. They're uncomfortable, and get damaged easily. Agree with crocs and skinny jeans, completely outdated. Sad to see the Dad shoe go, but I hear it. The lace top is a little played, but I feel like quality lace still has a role to play. Completely disagree with velvet and corduroy - those are timeless. Bows and cowboy boots are still cute. The Marc Jacobs tote and the ridiculous Smurf shoes - yeah of course. And I have NEVER liked ripped jeans. I think above all the message is: trust yourself. And remember the part of you that knows exactly what you like and what you don't. And give that authentic self a chance to be in the world, you don't have to go with the flow.
I agree too, some people are critical of them for talking abt trends when they’re trendy themselves or talking about basics but I think many are just preferences ! Like you have to genuinely have a dislike for corduroy/velvet/sequins to mention it bc they’re such basics. And I love that, bc it shows that they have a genuine personal opinion on it vs just pointing out what’s falling out of trend(to be fair that was the whole point of the video but still). I would love to see a video where she just asks them “what item have you always hated”
Interesting to hear and to see what they are wearing too. Personally, most of the outfits these students are wearing are things I would consider to be not only incredibly average, but several of them seem straight unfashionable... Irony must be back in style. Beauty is truly in the eye of the beholder I suppose. The only outfit that stood out to me that I could even remember by the end of the video is the woman with the blue eyelashes, flower, and shirt. I get that not everyone dresses up in a super fleshed out outfit every day, especially when going to school. I guess I expected fashion students to look a bit better than the average person though, not worse.
lol it's hard to take them seriously, I don't understand how they can be fashion students and hold such rigid statements towards what's in or not. I would've expected that from high school kids or anyone who just wants to sound edgy and isn't that interested/educated in the subject but not from them It's making me feel a lot better actually, they don't know any better and we can all wear what we want !
How can you be a fashion student if you literally rule out entire fabrics?? When you don’t even know what Tabis are (regardless of whether you like them or not)? The only thing I agreed with was TikTok copy and paste, which humorously many of the individuals here fall under.
I think I agree with all except skinny jeans. That’s a body type thing. Some people don’t feel they look good in baggy jeans. This was a fun vid. Loved it. Do more please. ❤
so glad city bags (in a gossip girl way) are making a comeback! I really want to get one for school but just don't know where to get them from :( if anyone has any recs of a 2000s gossip girl tote bag big enough to fit an ipad and an a4 notebook I'd really appreciate it. thanks xx
I soo agree with most of the people here, especially crocs!!?? Like i'm in healthcare so i'm probably more exposed than avreage, they just wanna make me throw up right on those little holes.. ew.
loveddddd hearing the people who actually gave context for not liking stuff; like not owning velvet as a texture personally so not being the biggest fan or not recently being able to style converse so they feeling like they're growing out of it
People are being way to hard on the girls in the comments YALL they were literally asked what trends are over, most of them didn't say they were bad just not for them. People are allowed to dislike things.
Ahhh! Gen Z you’re killing me! ❤️😂 we need “dad” sneakers for working out, and if you’re short and have a tight curvy body like me skinny jeans are a gift from God!! ❤😂😂 wide leg jeans just don’t work! 🙈 but I appreciate the fresh perspective!
This is interesting. The majority of people interested in fashion and people on red carpets, fashion shows, etc, are not exclusively in their early twenties. So to see this group of fashion students in early 2000s styles sharing their opinions is a pocket of the fashion world, but they’re fashion students in NYC with a sense of authority on fashion because of that.
@@maiazine I get it , sometimes my shyness debilitates me as well. But since you already have their attention will they are already answering . Just skip in “hey what’s your thoughts on trends & are you comfortable with s hating your social media.. if so what is it” or something like that. Or while they are almost finishing answering the trends question day “hey also you would mind sharing your social media with my viewers or no?
it's serioiusly so funny hearing people talking about tiktok copy and paste when the copy and paste is actually trying so hard to stay in style and ahead of the curve that it makes you look so pick me. these could just be random high school girls with no fashion knowladge and they're all just trying to stand out but also shame others for wearing what they want.
My husband who is from Georgia came into the room right when that girl said cowboy boots are an NYC thing, and like the expression on his face was priceless.
