Good pace and positive lines, nothing stupid when caught up in traffic..patience and smooth overtaking...type of rider I want sit behind and learn the ring from...
That Apex Schirmer BMW M3 is a beast and those guys drive around the Nordschleife for a living, so even keeping up with them is an impressive feat, let alone overtaking them while making it look effortless.
You can just see the effortless calm and patience of the bike rider. Look at his reflection. He doesn't even have to lean at these speeds... until the BMW is behind him, then off he goes. Beautiful to watch.
Dont have much expirience on bike or tracks, but when I watch my videos, it looks slower and effortless - and truth is that I "fought for my life on the bike" 🤣 Great ride, but I guess it was harder ride than it looks 😉
@@Faceoff1984 Probably riding 8/10's perhaps 9/10's sometimes. Car probably similar 9/10's pace under brakes and through turns but giving it the stick on the straights. The rider was sitting calm and riding smooth, well within his and the bike's limits. The driver also, being the Ring Taxi, with a passenger would hold off a bit but still going relatively quick. Mr V4 wasn't fighting for his life and has done a very good job of surviving long term fast bike riding by riding sensibly, Fast but sensible.. You don't get to middle age by being an on-the-edge hero riding a superbike, especially with very fast mixed traffic like on a Ring Tourist Day.
@@benjamincs1 Probably both in fast cruise mode about 8/10 IMO. Bear in mind crashing on a bike at the ring is not good for the health. The ring taxi is carrying passenger/s so is probably holding back on mid corner speed and late braking. Crashing also would be bad for the car and potentially for the occupants but not as dire as crashing the bike of course. Taxi probably gets better economy and longer tyre life by driving at 7 or 8/10ths and maybe passengers may tend to vomit (:. This is not a race, just a nice video on tourist day demonstrating how quick bikes are in a straight line and how corner speed is not that different at high speed but the car's braking and mid corner speed on slow and medium turns is superior. That is generally what I have found out over the years. A car with reasonable performance driven well by a competent driver will catch a bike on winding slow and medium speed sections, heavy braking on short straights into numerous tight bends, rapid change of direction in S bends and acceleration out of slow turns in slippery conditions. Any straight longer than 100 metres and it's bye bye superbike. It depends on the lengths of straights and the exit speed onto straights as to if the bikes straight line performance negates the cars advantage under brakes and through turns. We are talking high performance road vehicles here, not Le mans slick shod, winged race cars that people tend to bring up in these discussions about performance road cars and bikes.
hi, the bmw apex ring taxi is a highly modified 500+bhp, racing car, with a professional racing driver at the wheel, i was not surprised by just how fast the car is. it was a pleasure to follow such a awesome car being driven so well and just shows how cars and bikes can share the ring. cheers
It's a race track in Germany. If something goes wrong an English driver would instinctively vere to the left. The sign is there so he won't do that and pull out into the overtaking lane.
As an ex biker it’s amazing to see how far cars have come in the past 10-15years. Before a 600 would easily see off all but the most insane cars but now there’s so many truly rapid cars around that despite how far bikes have also advanced the gap between them seems a lot closer than before.
Good rider.... loved the way he stuck behind the taxi for a while, and I'm thinking is he just warming up the tyres?, then Boom off he goes. Love it. Well done.
Pay attention you people that say that fast cars will ALWAYS beat fast bikes around the ring. Fast road bikes ridden by good riders will be competitive with fast road cars driven by good drivers as this video clearly demonstrates. The consequences for crashing are higher so not many riders have the commitment, skills and consistency to push their bikes to the limit and this guy on the Dacati was not on the limit, more like 8 or 9 tenths. Maybe the BMW wasn't on the limit as well. Those sub-7 minute full circuit car lap times are with sharply honed factory cars with a team of factory mechanics. Most showroom supercars and superbikes driven and ridden by skilled owners would be proud to beat 8 minutes BTG. Motorcycles haven't raced at the Ring officially for nearly 25 years. Motorcycle manufacturers are never involved with attempting record ring times. Nearly all bike laps are on tourist days with mixed traffic. Kawasaki had a promotional lap of 7.50 by Tim Rothig which was foolishly claimed as a record by whom? I don't know. Helmut Dahne still has the production bike record at about 7.49 for the full circuit. It was with a Honda RC30 750 V4! This is way, way behind the performance of current bikes such as BMW 1000RR, Yamaha R1 etc. Brendan, on a rebuilt, crashed Yamaha R1, has a video which shows about 7.10 for a BTG. Nurburgring is just too dangerous for bikes but professional riders of the caliber of John McGuinness, Bruce Anstey and Michael Dunlop on current production superbikes, would push 6.50 for the full circuit IMO. For example, Mark Higgins, former British Rally Champion, in a 600 hp Prodrive Subaru WRX, lapped 35 seconds slower than the fastest producton bike. That was in a highly modded and lightened race car with nearly 3 times the power of the stock car. Two years earlier, in a lightly modded production WRX, he lapped over 2 minutes slower than the production bike times. Mark Higgins was born on and lives on the Isle Of Man and knows the circuit like the back of his hand.
Great comment. A RC30 750 compared to a 1000cc new bike is a dinossaur!!!! And tires are much much better now. No doubt that 7.49 would be smashed by a lot!
That was exactly what i was thinking. Cars are not always faster. A good rider is as fast a car in the corner. Only big spoilers that cause much downforce are something a bike cant beat
Exactly and also bike producers know that a record attempt is pure stupidity - crash on a track like Nurbrugring brings ultra high death risk for rider, while nova days crashing with a correctly equipped car (rollcage, race belts, fire extinguisher system etc.) usually might mean some bruises and maybe few broken bones.
Apex taxi drivers are some of the best...indeed moritz kranz who frequently drives the m3 has numerous cup and Nuremberg 24hr wins.. From memory the m3 engine is standard but they’ve uprated everything else. Very unlikely he was pushing much beyond 7/10 th’s ...imo Very fast bike ridden well within its capabilities by a very good rider 👍
Much respect to this rider. He obviously has major skills. But with that said cars hold every lap record on every race track in the world (Road course, Drag strip, Oval, Rally course, Land speed etc.). Cars don't compete on the Isle of Man. A race prepped Subaru is hardly the ideal car to go around the Isle of Man because it's a top speed circuit. A raced prepped 911 GT2 or better yet a full blown race car like the Porsche 919 Tribute would be a better choice to set the lap record for that track. I love bikes and I love cars. No bias here just stating the truth.
I got exhausted out of excitement just by watching this video. And I see comments below that say 'This guy was cruising". Awesome job My V4, enjoyed every second of it. Cheers from India.
Very impressive. Not often, in this day and age, I can sit through a video of that length without a break or a quick "fast forward". Thank you for posting.
That's my guide to "The line round The Ring" sorted. Beautiful riding and that's from some one who has spent their motorcycling life (34 yrs road riding so far) thrashing round the English Lake District
If I said Dalston, hump back bridge, GPz, adjustable rake frame would I be remembering correctly? If I have, you and the me have met one another. Andy.
@@MrMickyandrews Must be very confusing on a bike. I only used rental cars when in UK, so there was always that in-built reminder by different layout of controls.
So i own an m3 but am partial to my motorcycles. This is just amazing, motorcyclea have gotten to a point where mere mortals cannot get even close to their limit.
Damn!! I ride on regular trackdays (mid pack A group) and I don't think I would dare take on the ring on a motorcycle. The narrow roads, traffic and high kerbs are really something. Great safe and fast riding. You're a fantastic rider.
very good riding there my friend, and the way you showed sense when not going for the line with the yellow clio, shows your road sense.total props to you, keep it shiny side up.
Nice! I had a visceral experience while sitting safely at home. I would love to ride the ring on a V4, but too old now; happy to watch and enjoy. Thanks for the experience.
The Taxi is from @apexnurburg, 4 seater M4 ex race car and us generally driven by current racing drivers. The guy on the Ducati really knows the track well watching his corner entry and exit speeds.
Staggeringly good riding on what's known as a difficult track for bikes. I didn't hold much hope out for the Ducati but once it was properly opened up it just kept going! Thanks for sharing some awesome riding skills.
Love the patience- I have seen to many riders and drivers in person and on youtube think they are in some sort of championship and force past a slower car or bike, theres just no need and will only risk a crash of either party or both. Honest good riding and very curious and SAFE here. I had a E30 M3 nearly wipe me out twice then he crashed into the armco from stupidity and driving way to aggressive- made a real mess of his pride and joy and he didn't look a hero in the carpark on the back of the ring flatbed and guess didn't smile much as he got the bill from the ring for the damage he caused and the recovery costs.
The bike allows you to customize your modes where you can pick different engine modes even on the street setting. That's not to discount his riding by any means, as it's still very impressive.
I’ve pooped my pant more then once watching this video. I only wanted to try out my new iPad but I wasn’t prepared for that. Your driving skills is out of this word. Stay safe!
Thibaut Frantz the real mvp how good those electronics are, this is the best example ive seen showing how discrete the TC and anti wheelie is on a street setting, useful for such a undulating and bumpy track. I see why youd want to tone then down as pace increases though that would get annoying having it cutting in so frequently
Traction Control (TC). If you didn't see it flash, you wouldn't even know it was working - it's that good. In 'Street' mode, it has a default higher setting than 'Race' (as in, more intrusive), but again in practice, you won't feel it. When you see it flashing when bike goes over a bumpy part of track, it's just because of the brief 'unloading' of the back wheel - totally, totally normal. Only time I even think about it is if the road is wet - then I'll have it (and every other nanny!) full on. On normal, shorter tracks, then you start playing with it at the other end, as it will allow a bit of controlled sliding. This sounds far freakier than it really is - and first time it happens, it does tend to lead to a bit of a 'brown leather' moment, as you realise you are NOT Dovi or Davies, and should NOT be sliding the @rse of your £24k baby, but once you get used to it, you then learn how much to use and where best to use it - you even begin to start playing with it, it's THAT good! Funny enough, though World Superbikes have TC like production machines, British Superbikes aren't allowed it, so probably only race series on planet that the race versions are 'dumbed down' from their road brethren (though clearly, BSB bikes have plenty of other attributes about them to more than compensate! Haha! ;)
even under 6'40 a rider of Isle of Man could do if he wanted and there was some protección... I think (no sure anyhow) that Murtario with a R6! laps in 7'23 ir 7'20...with traffic...he would do under 7' with an Aprilia or Bmw...
It's a myth that 1000cc bikes will outperform a 600cc bike on a track. The time difference on a circuit (Unless it's just long straights) with decent enough corners will be tenths of a second. Sometimes a 600 would be faster too, it's lighter, more agile and you can carry a whole lot more speed into the corners on a 600. Murtario might struggle with a bigger bike.
Not true. Take Phillip Island for example. Best Lap on a MotoGP bike -> 1'27.899, Best Lap on a Moto2 bike -> 1'32.470. Thats almost 5 seconds faster on 1000cc, on a 4.4km track. The Nordschleife has a shit ton of straights and it's around 20km so thats even a bigger time difference. @@iUsman975
Hehe THATS BS.. i ride 1000cc and hits my revlimiter every gear so many can get the most outta a 1000cc but you need to be a good rider yess.. 80% of the guys owninowning a 1000cc is probably to Pussy to REALLY get the best outta them.. i ride a zx10r gen1 THE widowmaker 50whp less then the New bikes and NOT 1 guy on BMW v4 or WHAT not follow me still there are fast guys every now and then but it's far between them
Great riding, love the sounds, the speed, but the one surprising this is the acceleration and speed of the car, at 3:27 the bike isn't gaining that fast, and is doing 180 mph.
FURBALL I would imagine someone of this pace has probably changed sprocket sizes to dial in his bike a bit and has thrown the speedo out. Probably doing a bit less than 180.
lmfao yea but he was behinde another car and lost ground you need to build speed to gain if this was a longer satright you would have seen the difference.. Its like on aa reular track if you race a 600cc and you are on a 1000CC then the 600cc has a perfect exit corner speed and acceelration then you come 5meters behinde (in the vid it was ALOT more then 5 meters lkol)) and fuck your exit acceleartion the 600cc is gone and you will never cath him trust me I KNOW before the main stright is done even on a 700-800M straight no BS.. you will gain but then its time to go on the brakes casue you are on a 1000cc and need to brake earlier becasue of the sheer speed difference.. DO YOU GET IT???? ALso this is the BORSI BMW M3 whcih has 525rwhp soo its not a slouch still 500whp in a car vs a 1000cc bike HAHAHAHA thats even easier kill then a 600cc vs 1000cc race..
@@Rajvirdee Can you proof this somehow? The manuals I know say "Riding Mode Street - The Street Riding Mode is the one recommended for road use of the Panigale V4. This RM offers the rider 214 HP power delivery with progressive Ride-by-Wire response to throttle opening, like in the Sport RM, and, in the Panigale V4 S and Panigale V4 Speciale versions, an extremely soft suspension set-up to absorb any bumps in the road. The default setting of electronic controls helps ensure maximum safety, by guaranteeing the best grip and stability. "
antithesis Hi I’m so sorry you may be right. My dealer told me that street mode was 150 or 160BHP but your right. Can’t see it in the manual ! Thanks for correcting me. Appreciate it
@@Rajvirdee your Dealer dont have any fucking Idea. But i can anderstand not everybody they work in a Bike smShop know everything about Product they selling.
Lovely, smooth riding, good lines, good discipline with slower vehicles. Those people who think the ring taxi was flat out and couldn't keep up... just remember they have paying passengers to think about. They go round the ring all day, giving people a 'fast' lap, but nowhere near the absolute limit. They can't afford to take unnecessary risks. Maintenance and fuel costs make it impossible to run flat out all the time. As anyone will tell you, going flat out is mentally and physically tiring, you simply cannot keep that pace up lap after lap, day after day. Sooner or later it would go pear shaped. I know... reality sucks. 🙄
hi the rider is the first guy that looks in to the camera, he was with andy carlie and i chatted to them about the ducati v4, this guys fast but not as fast as andy.
So sad this bike shows mph. I didn't properly understand the speed. Anyway I saw 181 mph which is around 292 Kph. I any case bikes'grip is much more critical than cars'one. And even Nurburgring is for bikes because for many reasons so tipically cars are fasters here (not always of course). In a more traditional (let's say modern) circuit in ideal conditions last sports bikes are as competitive as supercars on lap time and most times fasters for what I saw personally. Not mentioning formulas. That's another world
I found it difficult to understand your sentences. Perhaps it would be better if you use more full stops and put distinct ideas into separate sentences. I don't think it is sad to see MPH on the speedometer because I am in Australia. They used MPH until the 1980's I think. Then they changed to kph and the metric system for everything else as well. So automatically I can convert the speed in my brain and associate the figure with exactly how fast it is in KPH. I don't even convert mathematically in my head. I know instinctively what the numbers mean as a rider or driver and the physical and visual sensations those speeds create.
@@droceretik Thankfully still using mph/miles here in the UK but there's a bloody big sway to metric particularly at the supermarkets were it all has to be in metric and we went to litres instead of gallons 30 years ago. I ride a pushie (as you Australians call it) fairly seriously and I'd never change to km though can like yourself easily convert, luckily was taught both metric and imperial at school.
boboprime2000 I think you never Ride a Bike. In my whole Life i never met a Car that is faster in Corner than a Bike. If you have a normal car ,ecample Golf GTI , a Sportbike , ecample CBR 1000rr , the Bike ist faster! German Einstein Physik 😁 But racing Cars can bei faster.
