1440p was so much better when I first switched from 1080p. Reading pdfs, movie watching, playing games and everything was instantly a big improvement.
@TheVanillatech
@TheVanillatech 10 месяцев назад
Depends on the size of the monitor, the distance you are from the screen, the performance of your GPU, the original resolution of the rendered assets / movie ..... etc. It's silly to just say "1440p is better" when it might be a complete waste of money for some people, factoring in other things. A young lad once asked me to build him a PC. And he was willing to spend £350 on the CPU, £400 on the GPU and .... £150 on a 1080p 60Hz monitor. For example. I talked him out of it, told him how to balance performance across all components. For him, a 1440p 120Hz monitor was a must. So he dropped the spec of other components and lost a 2nd SSD drive. Improving the overall gaming experience by a huge factor, and not wasting all that CPU + GPU horsepower on a screen that couldnt keep up.
@vangledosh
@vangledosh 10 месяцев назад
@@TheVanillatech What? It's not silly at all to say 1440p is better, it's obviously better. 95% of people buying 1440p monitors are getting 27-32" to use things that are capable of reaching that resolution (which these days is pretty much EVERYTHING except live streams). It's a significant step up from 1080p 24-27". Even at 32" 1440p the PPI is identical to a much smaller 24" 1080p monitor. Just because it might be a complete waste to very specific people, doesn't mean it isn't objectively better. It just simply is better. It's more pixels for your eyeballs to enjoy, you can have larger screens and still keep the same or better level of detail.

@@toad7395 I know but people reading it are easily led. People don't understand the other factors at play. People fall for marketing, and buzzwords, and gimmicks, without actually understanding the technology. Hence why so many idots dream of spending $1000 on a 360Hz screen, while their eyes can only see 180fps (if they are lucky) and the GPU's can't even break triple figure frames.
@TheVanillatech
@TheVanillatech 10 месяцев назад
@@vangledosh 80% of people with gaming PC's don't have a GPU that can run modern titles in 1440p with even 60fps. So they follow your comments advice, and believe that 1440p is "better". And spend the next 2 years running a non native, lower resolution like 1080p that looks absolutely trash cos they bought a 1440p monitor. Even MORE trash cos it's a 27"-32" screen. Money wasted. As I said, it DEPENDS. It's not just "BETTER" for the VAST majority of people. But it is, for a minority. Life isn't simple. Thankfuly.

The depth you go into for your videos is always very helpful. I know in the past you have done some testing of the 2k 240hz oled monitors. You should do a comparison of all the various ones on the market now since there’s a lot more variety. I’ve been looking at how there is WOLED and QD-OLED but nobody explains in as much detail in an understandable manner like you do. I played WZ1 with a 1080p60hz monitor for a bit. Then, I switched to 1440p144hz. It was night and day when sniping. Not only was the refresh rate important, but seeing enemies that was farther away was the biggest boost to my gameplay. Definitely agree that it depends on the game. @@strawberrymilkshake112 No not bad by any means, I just prefer the smaller screen size on 1080p, my screen is 24.5" vs my 1440 panel which is 27". One of the main differences is that my 1080 panel has much better motion clarity too; this also influenced my decision. Having said all that, seeing all these 1440p OLED panels coming out this year I will probably give one of them a go in Apex. Bottom line is I would just use whatever you find most comfortable to play on, but try and get a monitor with good motion clarity if you can.

You don't need to worry about burn in in today's age, it's a thing from a decade ago......you literally need thousands and thousands of hours of constant exposure to the same image to get any burn in. And that's 24/7 for a year straight. Using it 8 hours a day and changing the picture around, you'd be lucky to see burn in within the monitors entire life.

@@AdvancedGamingYT OLED isn't any different in that regard, strobing is done to eliminate motion blur caused by the sample-and-hold technique these screens use to display the image. Only on OLED they don't talk about strobing, it's called BFI or black frame insertion.

Just a thought cause I know from personal testing that overwatch is a lot more cpu bound than gpu bound for frame drops so a improvement from 4070 to 4090 won’t help to the same level as upgrading your cpu. Did testing where I tried a combination of 9700k, 13600k, and tried both with a 2080super and a 3080ti. Even on the 2080super 13600k run if I dropped render resolution low enough the game was able to run stable 360 fps, but 9700k with 3080ti the fps never got above a stable 240 no matter what I did. You did not mention how well gsync works on the PG27AQN, especially after the new ULMB firmware update, which has greatly reduced the error rate in particular. Even with a poorer graphics card, with which you don't always reach the full 360 Hz, the positive features are clearly noticeable. The PG27AQN is simply THE all-in-one monitor, as it is also great for text-based or color-accurate work, which, on the other hand, works less well with a TN or OLED screen.

You don't even want GSYNC on with a 360hz monitor. GSYNC is meant to prevent screen tearing, but adds input delay. At 360hz, even at 165hz there's no visible tearing unless you're using a slow motion camera. A game running at 40fps with gsync at 40hz will look much MUCH worse, than a game running at 40fps over 360hz. Because the frame will be displayed 9x at 360hz, and without GSYNC or VSYNC enabled it will keep updating the image ever so slightly. Creating more natural motion even in low framerate situations.

I'm using an Alienware Ultrawide WQHD+ (3840 x 1600) 144hz + Alienware 25" (1080p) 240hz / 2521HFL with a Gigabyte RTX3080. While I can pull 144 frames on some games on the ultrawide, been debating on upgrading to a 40 series and "downgrading" to a 16:9 again since I'm big on shooters. The fuzziness of the 1080 is getting to me as well going back and forth depending how sweaty I'm feelin'. Thank you for confirming my suspicion on latency. For siege 1080 to 1440 was just amazing you can hold tighter angles and in apex playing on good settings instead of all low the game looks real nice. If you can upgrade you can get good 1440p monitors as cheap as 1080p or cheaper if you look around. Theres no reason not to unless you cant run it with your hardware.

An interesting video would be cost to play. Spend 3-4K on a pc to play a $60 game at 4K resolution. Vs 300-1000 for a console or budget pc setup for a $60 game at 4K -1440p.

It's because he used the new NVIDIA tool to compare the monitors. It kinda gives the pg27aqn the edge, because that monitor does give a better image right in the middle of the screen. However, the zowie gives a clearer image overall, and is better at faster motion.

I've been wanting to upgrade to 1440p for productivity and gaming since I have a dual workstation gaming pc setup. My only problem is that my setup is contingent on having a monitor with KVM and the only one that suits that is Alienware's 1440p 240hz which is a bit of an older monitor at this point. Hard to rationalize that when newer displays are available for a lower price. Also Valorant needs some kind of crosshair scaling feature.

I would be interested in a test where you test out on what resolution you can see the enemy earlier. For example when a enemy is peeking around a corner. Since 1440p has more pixels per area there is the possibility that you see him on that resolution earlier because of that or that you see him on the 1080p resolution earlier because the "pixels it didn’t reach yet" get filled up if that makes any sense

Theres a reason whole CS teams use and win majors with it. (Using a custom res so windows doesnt upscale it into a blurry mess.) I've tried 1080p, 1440p and recently 4K, in Battlefield 1440p and 1080p are simply a joke, you can't see anything, in 4K you literally see the sniper man super far from the map, it's freacking more enjoyable while 1080p you are just a random person which is blind and 1440p is just ok. On Apex is different, 1440p is enough, 1080p is too much blurry, 4K is perfect but the drop in performance here is not that good. But i repeat, if you play Battlefield, go for 4K, 4K is way way better looking than 1440p.
