@@ryantracey8574 that is true. Not everyone can make a tight fit with the chainsaw method. The circular saw is by far the better method for most contractors. It takes a lot of practice with a chainsaw to make that precise of a cut.
I'm not even a pro I'd just appreciate if he took the time to address gaining confidence on 3 dimension layouts instead of fast forwarding. I get there's time restrictions but I've learned some very relevant techniques in multiple fields in shorts from guys that actually want to build the trades up.
No, the title says how to notch a porch post. He did just that, he showed you how to notch a porch post. I don't know why you're trying to be a smart ass lol
@@dimebagdarrel00 Actually, the title clearly states, "FASTEST way to notch a porch post!" And not, "HOW to notch porch post," so this guys comment is spot on. If you're going to try and knock dude, at least get your facts straight!
Guys I love the channel but by far NOT the fastest way that looks like it took forever, use a sawzall with a VICIOUS wood cutting blade to finish out the notches or do like me buy a circular saw with a 8/14 inch blade so you can do 3” notches in one pass, and get a chainsaw with a saw table attached for long rip notches, or a beam saw
I think the most important thing to note is his fluid and precise transition between tools and material without any wasted effort or extra movements. I think speed can not be achieved if one doesn’t understand this fundamental concept.
@@ryanwinchester6644 look man everybody’s ragging on the editing for making it look faster than it actually is in real life but the point was to show the fastest METHOD to notch, not the fastest claimed time for notching. I just want the apprentice level viewers or just the average person who came across a random framing vid to understand what’s being demonstrated just that much more. Not everybody gets to just “go to work everyday” in framing (which btw doesn’t automatically make you fast or skilled OR a good worker) to learn new tricks. If what he showed in this vid is so apparent and obvious to you, then you should be thankful you were taught the right way to do things, not getting all pissy at others for wanting to improve. I bet you’re a joy to work with on site 🙄
@@Ofmyownvolition broke: da video sped up Bespoke: so you can see him use every tool perfectly, one single time If you don't get it it's because you haven't worked with your hands, man knows what he's doing and it shows
As a retired sawman, I challenge you to a speed contest Notching posts, ledger notching joists, rafters... You name it, I'm faster. (I might not be as good as I once was, But I'm good once, as I ever was)
I will literally work with you guys without question I love a passionate Carpenter I'm a passionate Carpenter for 35 years and I just love to be around other people that love doing what I love doing simple as that I don't live a complicated life I just live through passion
A claw hammer is used on a chisel with a plastic handle or a metal cap on the end like most site carpenters use . A mallet is only used if you are using wooden handled chisels as preferred by a joiner who works in the joinery shop . If you are going to be a smart arse at least get the facts right , if you use a mallet with a plastic handled chisel it will ruin you mallet 🤦♂️
💯 in agreement, I never do as well. I never understood how it’s allowed to pass inspection to be honest. But I would get failed if I add extra rebar then specified on plans from a foundation pour 🤦🏻♂️
Lol this is the way I’ve always done it, pretty sure it’s the only way.... Except I use a sawzall where you used the hand saw, so my way is probably faster unless you have robot arms.
This reminds me how I make all the greenies cut there first notch with a multi tool at work hahahaha good laughs when it takes them 30 minutes and they have to do it again 🤣 but then you tell them think of a better way to do it and they learn cause they open there eyes!👀
Eric, That “Great Greens” stuff really works‼️ Did You have an extra cup of Cardinal Coffee ☕️ for this video‼️ Great measuring and handling the saw‼️ Yall are the Masters‼️
It would be faster using a 10 inch beam saw because you wouldn't need the hand saw, and a reciprocating saw would be faster than the chisel, but that is the fastest technique
Ah, if only we could work as fast as this guy, wouldn't that be nice- no wonder it takes me so long to complete a project.... Just gotta move as quick as him! (I'm kidding- i know it's sped up). Still enjoyed though. Woodworking is like that "ASMR" stuff, to me. Gotta invent a woodworking "white noise machine" for sleep.
So I have a question 🤔 why do you need to cut this the fastest way ever ? Are you in competition or practicing for cutting a notch fastest? It's a wood post, just cut it accurately and put it up safely, no big deal. Safety is the most important. No matter how fast you cut it, it'll only be few minuets faster that average if that. Home Depot has a turbo charged saw you can get , it's got about 600 HP. You can use that and take some speed. You're sure to cut that one post faster . But for all fairness, it is very clean cut . I like it, no hard feelings .
Do all that with the circular but then instead of a chisel use a nice sharp hand saw and it makes the cut perfect, and it’s done in only a few passes, with nothing to clean up, you could of even sped it up but cutting that 45• cut as you were doing your notch cuts.
That’s the way I’ve done them for the last 12 years. Thousands and thousands of them. That said, Thanks for posting a concise video with very clean looking work. I’m sure it will help and entertain many people which is the whole point. Appreciate all you do PBB.
