I'm a Christian. I went with my friend to Ethiopia in 2008 for Ramadan and it was a beautiful experience. There family was very welcoming.

Being a Christian and raised in the South (United States). I am thankful that I made it a point to accept people for who they are. I enjoyed talking to and learning from people about their culture, beliefs and way of living. I enjoy it when Munchies post videos like this because I learn so much from them. A lot of people actually put on weight during Ramadan. They wait all day and eat like there is no tomorrow, also in Turkey during Ramadan a lot of dessert being eaten.

salzheeringer it makes sense because during Ramadan they’re fasting for over 12 hours and giving themselves a small window of time to eat. Theyll lose weight since they’re at a calorie deficit. Once Ramadan is over they’ll go back to their normal ways of eating and when that happens they gain all the weight they lost. You can only sustain weight loss if you eat like that regularly.

what is something non Muslims can do for our Muslim friends to either gift, or just be supportive through the month . im jewish by blood. not following , but i always make sure to wish my friends and or local's i interact with in the community , a happy holiday . and want to be able to do something nice next year for them before i make my move out of state next summer.

Thank you for the kind gesture! Honestly a little goes a long way, you could wish them a good fast every time they break fast. If you REALLY wanted to treat a friend during ramadan you could do is invite them for iftar or if you wanted to participate in your own way you're welcome to donate to food banks or help feed the homeless etc. You don't have to be a muslim to participate in ramadan, every little bit helps the community.

I don't even know where I fall with religion, but I believe God is good. I believe we get closer to our God when we sacrifice selfish pleasure. It's not that our pleasures are inherently good or bad, but that we grow spiritually through denying ourselves the things we take for granted. Eating clean, fasting, and loving God through ourselves and others has to lead one to a blessed life.

Few months too late. Interesting content though. Also funny to see how fasting nowadays has become a trend for non-muslims with their intermittent fasting. Which has a lot of resemblance with islamic fasting "but muslims eat themselves silly at night". Muslims actually learn that their prophet Muhammad said that you should reserve 1/3 of your stomach for food. 1/3 for water and 1/3 breathing room. So eating yourself silly isn't actually an Islamic thing. It's individuals not upholding their prophets example. Fasting is healthy when you do it according the actual teachings. Eating sober. Eating healthy because as a muslim its haram to harm your own body.

Are you aware that catholics are supposed to fast too? Nowadays it's not as common, but most abstain from things like sweets or alcohol during lent. Islam and christianity are the same.

In our religion, we give to those who needs, we devin "needs" by the numerous criteria... we also always belive in husnuzon... which mean always think positif way, who know those who have expensive car are only a driver with small salary, or maybe he didn't know where to get halal food around the area. As a minority we all know that halal food is not easy to find 😅. And who know tought those car are expensive, they are way to buzzy to cook for them self yet strugling to find halal food. And also there posibilities that those people in nice car are line up so they can get their older neightbour some meal because the aren't able to get it by them self

They're medical conditions that exempt people from fasting. And those people who are exempt can do charitable things and receive blessings from The Most High in the blessed month of Ramadan. God is Great.

To add to everyone's great points, there are probably more people exempt from fasting than actually required to fast. For those who can't fast for whatever reason, they are encouraged still to promote a sense of community, to cook or provide for those who do not have the means (that could be donating to a food bank, working at a soup kitchen or just cooking for your family during ramadan). Essentially everyone gets to participate in Ramadan one way or another.

Pretty nutty to generalize all muslims due to cultural craziness in Saudi Arabia. While most muslims in the world aren't even Arabic and from SA but are Indonesian. Yup, the majority of muslims are Indonesian. Edit: wikipedia "Indonesia has the largest Muslim population in the world, with approximately 225 million Muslims. In terms of denomination, the overwhelming majority (99%) adheres to Sunni Islam, while there are around one million Shias (0.5%), who are concentrated around Jakarta, and about 400,000 Ahmadi Muslims (0.2%)." So its odd to compare most muslims with Arabs. While most muslims in the world aren't even Arab.

Does it offend you to see different kind of people? Showing their lives bother you in any kind of way? Them being a minority means it's prohibited for an indepenend food channel to do a piece about them? They must just focus on whatever the majority reflects? Why?
